First gen was available as a sedan, hatchback, or wagon. The hatchback and the sedan just look kinda similar, u can tell which is which because the sedan doesn’t have a rear window wiper and the trunk area is slightly longer

The First generation Mazda 6 was a beautiful car, still is, I especially like the wagons they are just very classy and well proportioned. My parents had a Mazda 6 wagon in the yellow color and it was really stunning. My significant other bought a 2009 Ford fusion 2.3 L, which I wish was a Mazda 6 every day even if it had the 2.3. The 2.3 L is extremely reliable, and the 3 L is very reliable as well but I have heard horror stories from several friends….the six speed transmission is not as reliable as the five speed that comes in the 2.3 L autos that is. The 3 L is very closely related to the Jaguar 3.0 that was in the X type and the S type which was extremely reliable, mine was purring at 170,000 miles when it was totaled😓
@IgoZoom1
@IgoZoom1 2 жыл бұрын
The 2.3L is extremely reliable IF you change the oil every 5k miles. They also start using oil at some point north of 120k miles and, as long as you check it once a month and top it off, you're good. I've been adding a quart to my 2006 Mazda3 2.3L every 1500-1800 miles for years now and it runs like a champ.

I have a 2006 Mazda Mazda6 3.0L with 164000 and it’s been mostly reliable. Also my transmission is good, no problems because I have the aisin transmission. Tbh most transmission problems stems from too much power or not being taken care of.
@MugatuJag
@MugatuJag 2 жыл бұрын
@@jaylonallen8423 That is completely true, the FNR5 transmission that we have in our 2009 Ford fusion 2.3 L is very reliable, but we have kept up with the transmission fluid changes… I rarely see a clean first generation Ford fusion, they are all beat to hell and driven by people who don’t maintain their cars…

2000s Mazda designs are actually considered quite pretty and athletic, especially for the time. The first Mazda3s sold because they were a combo of the winning Focus platform and fresh, sporty styling inside and out. It was a standout back then and these Mazdas still look pretty now, the non-rusted ones that is

My friends first car was this gen Mazda6. It was the hatchback. I still don't understand why all mid size sedans don't use liftback stuff. Nearly all new sedan have a sloping rood and no trunk table. I can't imagine it hurting the modern designs at all. Maybe you could add reclining rear seats? Anyway his motor blew up not to long after he got it under 100k miles. It's just sitting in his yard. I remember being impressed by how good the interior was. It looked different than this one a little but. Nostly the lower center and controls. I was amazed how modern it looked despite no screen.

I had one of these fully loaded with the hatch. Absolute favorite car i ever owned. Unfortunately it rusted pretty bad and needed a complete suspension overhaul. The engine started running rough and i got rid of it at 210k. Definately not the best built car but the leather seats were phenomonal, enough power with the V6, and really fun to drive.

I loved the 1st gen MZ6 and they still look great to me! I drove a 2008 MZ6 i Sport (base model, 2.3L/5AT) for over a month back in 2008. The engine in my 2006 MZ3 was being replaced under warranty and I had the MZ6 as a loaner. It was a great car and I really didn't want to give it back! Even with the 2.3L and 5AT, it was still a fun car to drive. The 4-door Sedan was available 2003-2008, 5-door Hatchback 2004-2008 and Sport Wagon 2004-2007. I don't have the official numbers to back me up, but the 4-door Sedan outsold the 5-door Hatchback by roughly 5:1. The Sport Wagon was only around 5% of total sales.

Some small corrections. It produces 220hp not 212 and it has only engine block from ford, heads are mazda, and they are much more aggressive then ones from Fusion or other US market car with the same block that produces around 200 hp. This is able to pull 0-60 in 6.5-7 seconds with manual trans., and it was a budget sedan in 2004. Suspension is way more complicated (multi-link front and rear like premium honda,audi,bmw...) than two next generations GH and GJ got (mcpherson). Mazdaspeed 6 or MPS was based on US market 6S (which is considered pre-facelift MPS/mazdaspeed) sharing the suspension and some other things.

I am also a Mazda fan and owned 2 first generation Mazda 6's. The first was e 2003 V6 6s sedan that was stolen and totaled and the next was it's replacement an 07 6i 4 cylinder 5-door that I had for 12 years and loved and traded it for a 2019 CX-5 Signature. I had a 2006 Mazda 6 sedan with the V-6 and Sports Package (4 wheel disk brakes, spoiler, sports wheels), premium HVAC but the cloth seats. Silver exterior/black-gray mix interior. I had it for 10 years, 91,000 miles. Had to replace the water pump, HVAC fan motor and 1 spark plug coil. Regularly changed the oil. To me it had a no-frills but still nice look to them. Tight build quality, nice balance of size and weight. Excellent handling. Likely my favorite car of over a dozen I have owned in my life (age 67). After a 2014 Ford Focus I traded in this Mazda 6 in 2016, that while the Focus was good in many ways, the DCT transmission issues made me get rid of it. I bought last September a 2021 Mazda CX-30 Select and it was from the same dealer I got the Mazda 6 from. Like it a lot but wish it had more 'greenhouse' window height. About the only CUV with a real automatic transmission (and can shift manually like with the 6) and a good sized engine (2.5L) so no turbo issues. Likely the good experience with the 6 led me to the CX-30.

My mom bought a 1st Gen Mazda6 (2004) brand new in August of 2004. For a midsize family sedan, it was such an appealing car. Reliability in ours was…unfortunate, even with regular maintenance. Nevertheless, it lasted for about 11 years before biting the dust at 238,000 miles.

I currently own and maintain a 2005, 2008, and 2014 Mazda 6, AND a 2010 Mazda 3. SO I do know quite a bit about these cars and I love them. My 2008 Mazda looks exactly like that (same color) and has the same options except I have the 4 banger 5 speed auto sedan. If you ever see a Mazda 6 of that Generation with a rear wiper then you know it is a hatchback. All my cars are pretty high mileage and i have done everything to maintain them myself in my garage. I've never had to do anything major. I've done alternators, motor mounts, struts, cv axles, intake gaskets, thermostat, plugs, wires, belts. Good luck working on any Mazda 6 with the v6 motor yourself. The clearances are insane. These cars were not engineered for those engines. They are totally shoehorned in there and not designed to be worked on. Trust me. Almost impossible. I've done brakes so many times on all my cars I can't count. These cars do seem to me to have a real weakness with the braking systems. I've had calipers fail and rotors warp with almost regularity. I agree about some of the cheapness aspects of the cars. I could go on and on about little things. My 2005 has squeaky suspension, for instance. But I maintain these cars and even though they have their quirks and all that they just keep on runnin. I really love Mazdas and especially the 6. Sorry to see them go.

@@crryder44 Well, I think if you can find a 5 speed manual that'd be wise with higher miles. Take a look at the suspension and steering pieces, front and back, just like any car. I just replaced the ball joints/control arms, and tie rod/ends on one of my cars, the Mazda 3, that has over 200,000 miles on it. The fluids can help tell a cars story. Transmission, brake, power steering, oil. Look inside the valve cover under the oil cap for any sign of sludge. And have a look at the spark plugs. Good luck to ya

I had a Mazda 6s Sport V6- it was such a great car- it had BMW like handling and performance without the cost. I would have kept it longer, but Mazda didn't address a manufacturing defect (at Ford's plant) which caused the rear wheel arches to rust out right at year 4-5 of the car, depending on how much salt was used in the area. If you found the rust while the car was still in warranty, they would give you $300 to have a body shop stop and fix the rust. Problem was nobody noticed it until it was too late, and the rust just ate the wheel arch. This is the prominent reason why none of these are in service anymore.

Successor. It went from a Mazda platform to a adapted Ford platform.

I had a 04 Mazda 6 it was a great and fun car but what killed it for me was that it kept leaking oil all the time and I had it fixed so many times I just decided to sell it because of that reason but other then that it was pretty cool.

Had one for my first car, 2007 top spec luxury sport hatch (Aus). Had many compliments on the car and drives great and sharp. Managed to fit a TV cabinet inside the car once. Only had to replace engine mount and O2 sensor throughout 7 years of ownership.

Wow. Thanks. Man, you're awesome. ".. Quality increase after 2015." Bro, you're awesome. I did not know Ford and Mazda were still in their off/on relationship that far.

I just purchased an 07 mazda 6 with a 5spd and it is not a hatch. 4 doors and an actual trunk.

they come in sedan and hatchback in Australia. although i own the sedan i have no idea why you would have chosen the sedan over the hatch when given the choice

In Australia our first gen Mazda 6 are a little different I personally have a 2007 sports model and I have digital aircon controls rather then the manual switches, as for the other models here all of the models with powered seats come standard with memory and the trim is slightly different and better quality

Funny thing I have a rare first edition mazda 6 but was made in Japan, which is a total pain as its impossible to get parts .when it's beside another one there are lots of differences

7:12. I came here specifically to see how much space is under the hatch.😂😂 So yes I knew that. I don't like the sedan models and the hatch model brings back memories of my old hatchback s13 240sx❤

Now the Ford no longer owns part of Mazda, Mazda's are more reliable. Unfortunately, they don't sell as well as Toyota & Honda. i used to have a Mazda dealer, but it left and now it's only a Hyundai dealer

The body style is worlds better looking then whatever ford did in 2009. They threw it away by that is and for the better because mazda pretty much top dog at this point.
