2007 Torrent Electronic Power Steering Fix And Diagnosed

This is a quick video showing the steps I took to diagnose the problem of losing the power steering and also have the stable Trac light on.
The part was taken off a Junk Yard UPull 2008 Chevy Equinox.

Good video. With my 2006 Torrent I lubed up the universal joint steering knuckle. For now fixed the issue.

Superb video it highlights my exact problem thank you. So I had my motor and module replaced with a used one two years ago with used parts. 2 years later and 20,000 kilometres later I have the same problem. I'll probably go with the used solution again but do you have any ideas on why this occurs and how I can possibly prevent it. It feels like the symptoms start showing up on rainy days or driving on puddles could it be a grounding issue that causes the module to fail?

Thanks for the feedback. I honestly couldn't say. The module went out 30mins after replacing the fuel pump on a quick drive. The wife drove down to the neighborhood Walgreens got off and tried backing out of the parking lot and went out unexpectedly. GM is known for electrical problems though. I remember driving over a large puddle in my Pontiac Grand Am and the ABS module went out. I haven't had any problems with the power steering since I replaced though.

I wish you would have unplugged all the connections, cleaned them, then reinstated them to see if it suddenly started working again.

Hello Chub. Mine was working fine except the SAS reads “0” degrees. So I though of relearning it using a Scanner. It got stock on the first step. So I canceled it and ever since my steering wheel became hard! Please how do I resolve it. Mine too has no power on the hot red. Though the wheel was working fine before. Please

you didn't by chance put a DMM to the hot line to see if the old esp module was only receiving low voltage? i ask because I'm sitting on 7 volts at the hot but have no power steering , I only assume that test probe only illuminates on 12 or higher voltage, would like too know if you testes actual voltage or just used your test probe? but aside from that great video and i hope to god I end with the same result you've had.

I did not test the voltage just tested the with the probe. My probe illuminates dim as little as 3v and it still did not when I checked it the motor. My guess is there was no currently if so it would have been less then 3v.

Were you able to erase the stabilitrak light on the panel ?

The light automatically came off when I replaced the module. I took the truck for a quick spin and the line turned off.

The purchase info on a new module says it has to be programmed by the dealer, do you know if there's a difference between used and new or could it be bad info by the seller?

I actually saw a few post saying the same thing. Im not sure if you purchase a new module if it would need to be programmed or not. If you purchase a new one you're more than likely buying from the dealer? I'm sure you could ask one of their service techs if it needs to be programmed. For this reason I also got the steering column which has the electric steering. I did not install the used / junkyard steering column because replacing the module fixed my problem. To this day everything works like it should. Worst case if you can not figure out if you need to program the new module I would recommend install the module yourself and see if it works. If it works great and if not then you have to take it back to the dealer and get it programmed. I would also recommend purchasing a new one online from oem company like genuinegmparts.com you'll get a price break for the same part the dealer will sell you.

Buen día disculpa yo tube el mismo problema pero le quite corriente y se corrigió pero después me volvió hacer el mismo fallo me llega corriente pero ya no sale voltaje del módulo para la columna crees q se el módulo la mia es una 2008 cres q le quede el módulo de una 2006

@@chubbyswgates canceled codes been driving it around quite a bit light Stayed off . Hope just a glitch. Thanks for posting . Still steering ok . Now saying 45 % engine oil quantity previous owner over filled showing on dip stick quite over fill . So will give it a proper oil change tommorow. I like the way it drives , quiet , straight, plenty of power. No smoke . I think that is all that it is .

The module doesn't need to be programmed. I just replaced it with a used module and everything worked as normal.
