Good info & nice reminders about the electronic power steering & you need a good scan tool to get it working again. (Not for the home mechanic). Not like the old days where you could just swap the part and go (plus alignment). We have only owned one car with electric power steering, but have since sold it. So I’ve never had to swap one. Probably won’t get the privilege for many years since we are driving older stuff with PS fluid. Stay safe J.T.!

before you change the entire system at big $$, have your mechanic check the rack and pinion belt. Mine was frayed, cost $89 for new belt, 4 hours labour but still about $3000 cheaper than entire system.

I always run seat belt through steering wheel to hold it centered.

Or tape around the column to steering wheel is what I do. Don't let a customer or insurance adjuster see you using a seat belt SAFETY DEVICE, being used as a tool...no go....

I have a 2020 Lincoln Navigator that was in a collision and the steering rack has a dent where the module goes and my scanner tells me lost communication. Do you know what I can buy to program another one if I install it ? Thanks

JT question can an electronic power steering rack and pinion cause a car not to start as a safety feature?

Because that module on the bus network, yes, it has a potential to knock out Can C and cause a no start. I have once replaced a rack for this very reason because the module built onto the rack.

After an accident the replacement that was put in started actin up and giving stability notification and power steering after a couple months and than last week no crank but it says the stability on the screen. I have a replacement on the way. I’ll keep you posted.

Hey bud, If you did anything Rack Related, your toe will likely be off causing your steering wheel to be off centered. You may need to get an alignment done.

I replaced the rack and pinion yesterday but nothing has changed. So I was asking does. my electric rack and pinion needs to be initialized/ married to my vehicle?

@@validhemi took it to the dealership, came out to be the main power connector was water damaged and corroded. They changed the part, it worked fine for about a month. Now currently back at dodge for the same issue as we speak. Probably just gonna buy a brand new one, I’m very frustrated at this point.

I've been trying to figure out my eletric power steering problems for a couple days now. I have a 2012 chevy malibu. We thought it was the eletric power steering assists motor or torque sensor in the column, cuz of the wheel jiggering around and then it just locked up real hard to turn. We changed those out with a part from the junk yard. Put it back in nice n straight. Changed the fuse and everything. But its still stiff. Not as much but still turning is difficult. Esc light is on only. No engine light or nopower sterring light on. Does it need to be scanned or calibrated? Or would it be the rack and pinion im just now hearing about....?

Those things fail all the time...especially in a collision....new cars are a joke
