I love watching Shawn Johnson do gymnastics & watching her in interviews, with her family, and with her friends. She just shines in her gymnastics and always seems to be so honest and humble everywhere you see her, from back here in 2007 all the way to the Olympics, to Dancing with the Stars the first time, to her attempted comeback to gymnastics & retirement, and DWTS again...just love her!

My only (completely superficial and not gymnastics related at all) comment is WHY do Shawn and her classmate have their hair down in the chemistry lab in that little vignette at the beginning??? That's lab safety 101.
@extra_ice_girl9 жыл бұрын
Because they're really not doing anything that dangerous.
@smithak1269 жыл бұрын
Maybe not but starting with my first science lab in 7th grade through to my biomedical research lab work today, 13 years after my first lab, there were two rules in lab: hair back and off your face and no consuming anything. 95% of the time, rule 3 is goggles on. Idr I'd they were wearing goggles in this clip and I'm not rewatching, but I think they were, so logic would indicate that more fundamental lab rules would also be enforced, i.e. hair up. But that's just my experience in 3 countries, 5 states, and 13 tears, so YMMV. Maybe Iowa does things differently.

So..Shawn Johnson was 15 when she was competing at the American Cup in 2007, which means she was 14 in 2006 & not old enough to compete at the World Championships. No controversy over her age. Nothing. In 2011, Jordyn Wieber competed at the American Cup & she was 15. Suddenly there's tons of controversy because she wasn't old enough to compete at the 2010 World Championships. I'm confused....
@chickchick05099 жыл бұрын
If an athlete turns 16 within the calendar year she is fine to compete in the senior level.
@amybrown77238 жыл бұрын
+Jen Mareck The American Cup wasn't a World Cup event in 2007, unlike 2011, so the rules for who could be invited to compete were different. The US could basically make up their own rules and bring whoever they wanted, as long as they were a senior. When it became a World Cup event, the FIG set rules for invites, one of them being the gymnast had to be old enough to compete at the previous Worlds, which is why Jordyn's age was a big deal to the other countries in 2011. I believe 2011 was actually the first year it was a World Cup event
@dri_nkz44327 жыл бұрын
you have to remember the first time Jordan competed in an American cup she was 13 I do believe so I think it was just a change in the type of competition
@ovtransportation6 жыл бұрын
They do have a JUNIOR american cup. Thats why Jordan competed @ 13. The controversary over the one she won wasnt her age so much as it was that since it was a world cup event by then they take the top 8 gymnasts from the previous worlds. She didnt compete in those worlds. Thw reason she was there is due to an injured athlete and the FIG rules state the host country can put in whoever they want. Marta chose Jordan to give her aome experience
@kras1185 жыл бұрын
ovtransportation there is no junior American Cup. Jordyn competed as a 13 y/o in 2009 at the regular competition because it was not an FIG World Cup event and USA gym could invite whomever they wanted. Especially after an Olympic year, when so many gymnasts are retired or taking a break, relying on a talented junior is not unusual. Same reason Kristal Uzelac competed in 2001, Vanessa Atler in 1997, and Kristie Phillips in 1986 when they were juniors.

I’m pretty sure Marta made some comments to Shawn about her weight specifically during the 08 Olympic run. Shawn has said that someone had told her that the reason she didn’t win the Olympic AA was because she was too fat. She didn’t say it was Marta but I think it was Marta🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

@@laurielynne2006 That's why I'm glad they can't bully gymnasts anymore. How is she fat? No gymnast is. I guess being healthy is unappealing in some people's eyes smh
