Hi Guys,
Here we show how to diagnose and replace a faulty Evap purge regulator valve on a 2007 Vw Jetta with 2.5L engine. This is a common failure point on these engines and the fix is rather simple for most do it yourselfers. Hope you guys like the video and leave a comment or thumbs up if you would like to see further videos for various check engine light repairs on 1998-2018 Volkswagens.
Check us out if you are in the Southern California area and need Volkswagen or Audi service/ repair/ help call the shop anytime. We are located in Huntington Beach, Ca right off the 405 freeway

I got this code P0455 and changing this purge valve worked for me! My car symptoms were 1) a "knocking sound" by the gas cap after turning on engine for few minutes 2) weird suction and gurgling noises in motor after shutoff, and 3) car would not start after putting gas, I had to pump the gas pedal to get it working Thanks for this video! Very good!

There isn't a diaphram in this device. It's a solenoid operated valve. When I was replacing the fuel injectors, I apparently broke some carbon deposits loose in the device or in the lines. These small bits prevented the valve from seating and caused the computer to report an evap leak (P0455). After cleaning the valve with some choke cleaner, and cycling the solenoid a few times with a 12v supply, the valve started working normaly. You can test if the valve is leaking just by blowing thru the tube on the end by the electrical connector. If it leaks you can blow through it. When it's working OK you can't.

And doesn't have a replacement O-ring :) I'll try to find it in Ukraine a few days yet (I want to test it before purchase), or I will order from Germany/USA. @matttorian
@matttorian 5 жыл бұрын
that fault looks to be a leak detection pump open circuit which will not be fixed by a new purge valve. You need to remove the right rear wheel and wheel liner to get access to the leak detection pump and look for a unplugged connector, rodent damage chewed through wires, or could be a faulty pump. For gas cap you can have it tested at a smog shop or you can swap it with a good known cap or just but a new Vw cap. This fault will not be caused by a bad gas cap though, you have a electrical issue not a evap leak. Good luck.

That method should work fine for testing. The throttle body side is under manifold vacuum with the engine running so that side of the valve needs to hold vacuum. Good luck!

Nice video. Smoothe delivery. One question: this showed solution if seals were bad. Do these purge valves ever get clogged? How would you test for if so? Try to pull a vacuum from the intake side of valve? Also if it were clogged how would you know if it was faulty seals or a clog as I would think both conditions would 'hold' pressure forced in from the gas tank side?
@matttorian
@matttorian 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Roger, the purge valves never get clogged. Your second answer is correct, the valve will hold pressure from either side and pressure and vacuum on the engine side. and will pass through both sides when the valve is operating. I holds pressure and vacuum on both sides until it operates and then opens the doorway and will pass through on both sides. Hope that helps.

@@matttorian Thanks Matt, Wasn't sure about clogging cuz saw some videos where they say 'Clean or replace' even showing them spraying brake cleaner into the valve; implying he was unclogging it. ps love the crimp clamp technique!
@matttorian
@matttorian 5 жыл бұрын
roger lucas they are most likely mentioning the cleaning because on rare cases there can be small bits of charcoal from the charcoal canister stuck in the seal of the valve which can cause a very small evap leak. You could see this by removing the valve and tapping it on a white sheet of paper. Best to replace it. Glad you liked the crimp clamp technique.

@@matttorian That makes sense. But yeah comes a time its best to replace than try to squeeze out the last few days of old one.Do you think the Mityvac you use is useful in that it can be switched to pressure or vacuum? Most of stores only offer the 8000 model that only does vacuum so prob would need to order the 8500 model that does both. Finally what kind of hose clamp pliers do you like for the spring clamps. I'm tired of fighting with regular pliers . Knipex had some good reviews tho one said he didnt like the locking ones. The blue one in your video looks cool

Matt, I have an 07 rabbit. I have the codes 0171, 0507, 0442, 0456. They got triggered after changin spark plugs! I took it to a VW mechanic and paid for a diagnostic to 'confirm' it is the N80 & Valve Cover. However, he never did this pressure test you demonstrated here. Do you think it's worth replacing both parts anyway? Or maybe just go for the valve cover first?
@matttorian
@matttorian 3 жыл бұрын
You will need the valve cover for the lean fault and high idle fault. The PCV diagphram tears and sucks vacuum/ extra air into the motor causing it to have a lean mixture. The pcv is easy to diagnose there is a little vacuum port on the bottom of it and if you feel vacuum/ hear a leak from there the diagphram is torn and I would replace the whole valve cover with a OEM Vw valve cover. And for the evap leak faults I would do the purge valve. Both are common fixes on your engine. Good luck -Matt

Hi, I drive a 2007 1.6 Volkswagen jetta here in Ireland. I only bought it a couple of months ago. I have to top up the coolant every couple of week when it goes below the sensor. I can't see any apparent leaks and I've checked under oil cap and don't see any white or brown sludge. The car temperature runs fine at 90° but chugging idle even at ignition of car. Drives perfect though except for annoying screeching discs at rear. Any idea of coolant issue. I don't plan to do much with it as I bought it for a runaround for going to work.

@matttorian 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mossy, cheers from California. We do not have the 1.6 liter engines here in America so Im not familiar with the common problems of that engine. I would take it to a mechanic and have the system pressure tested and have the whole system inspected. It is possible you have a slowly leaking head gasket if no external leaks are found. You could take out the spark plugs and look for evidence of coolant on one of the plugs. You can let it sit overnight and put a borescope in the cylinders and look for coolant puddling up on top of the pistons indicating a blown head gasket and internal leak. Fully inspect the coolant head flange and heater hoses and radiator side tank. Common sources. Look for pink crusty, that is dried coolant. Cheers Mate.

Hello Asea, You have small evap leak large evap leak and the motor you have is not like this 2.5 motor purge valve. The purge valves on the 2.0T do not go bad. You most likely have a bad gas cap. Get a new factory Vw cap and clear the faults. For the fuel pressure fault, you might have a bad high pressure fuel pump. and for the intake manifold fault you will need to get a new intake manifold installed. This is a free repair at the dealer, take them the car with the intake fault and they will install a new intake, there is a warranty extension until 120,000 miles or 10 years on them. Also highly reccomenned to do intake valve carbon cleaning with the intake off. This should be a $250-300 extra charge for the valve cleaning. Good luck.

Hi Angelay, the purge valve on CC rarely rarely goes bad. It will most likely be a leaking gas cap causing your evap fault. LMK if you need further assistance. Good luck

We have done a few of the 1.4T engine purge valves. Its fun, you have to pull the intake forward to get enough clearance to sneak it through.
