I Agree with the mechanic on the way he did his job because it could of been a combination of all 3 and in the process he actually narrowed it down to just one the fuel cap and if he just went ahead and replaced the fuel cap and the problem continued after he gave the vehicle back to the customer abd the customer ended up bringing it back for the same issue what would that mean or do to the reputation of the mechanic and the shop I would rather be sure instead of just guessing that the cap was the problem .That the Big Problem with so many of the shops out there just wanting to make a quick buck and not really fix the issue knowing that the customer would be back with the same issue I commend the mechanic for not just guessing and throwing parts on the vehicle like a lot of the shops do

Your videos are always a good example of the diagnostic process. Even if it is something obvious, testing the system and verifying the fault/solution is crucial to a proper and accurate diagnosis. Thanks for another good video upload.

Well done on the systematic diagnostic process! 100% agree with leaving the cap alone until testing the rest! Thanks again as always

@@CoolAirVw is the test only done on a wound-up car?
@CoolAirVw
@CoolAirVw 2 жыл бұрын
@@варданмуслимов Does "wound up" mean with the engine running? I guess just do the test the way I did it in the video. If the test requires vacuum to run the leak detection pump and vacuum comes from a running engine then............

Good stuff Richard! When you use your wireless VCDS... do you have it set to "access point" or "infrastructure"? I set mine to access point, so that I can use it on test drives / away from shop wifi... however, I still end up losing connection / communication, often enough to the point where I resort to attaching the USB cable again. Are you having the same issue?

yes. Lots of disconnects but thats how I use it.

Great video! will the code go away on it's own? Or are we required to take in to clear the codes?
@CoolAirVw
@CoolAirVw Жыл бұрын
"obd2 code checkers" are a dime a dozen and available for use for free at most auto parts stores. Just clear it.

People don't realize that diagnosis is the most important and time consuming process in a repair. Im a diagnosis and programming person.Sometimes people don't understand why I bill them 5 or 600 dollars to fix 1 wire. What they don't realize how long i took to look fir that needle in the haystack. People bring us cars to be fix 100%. When you go to the hospital for any injury they diagnosis you no matter what. why because they have to be 100%

@@CoolAirVw lol 😆 trust me, you don't want to bring the car to me unless you either have a big bag of cash or your an inch away from hanging yourself. Im an expensive whore. I do alot of charities, so it balances out. Keep up the good work and just because you can do 1 hr job in 5 min don't feel bad for charging book time, because it took us alot of time to get to your level. Your just paying back the time you invested in the pass.

It's interesting that every youtube content creator who produces videos on diagnostic and repair put up with people who like to criticize and say something like, 'why didn't you just check the simple thing first and be done with it'? It's always easy for the arm chair experts watching the channel to apply hindsight. Regarding the gas cap leak, I have a friend who owns a Passat, and contacts me once a month or so to tell me he has another CEL, and it turns out to be an evap code, and every month it's his gas cap. He forgets and leaves it at the gas pump (can't be bothered to reconnect the leash on new ones), or he doesn't bother to turn the cap until it clicks. I think that whoever said that there's no cure for stupid was right.

I guess we just need foot powered cars, right Fred Flintstone? Actually I do some biking and I have a video upcoming on bike repair. (foot powered vehicle)
@fredflintstone8048

@@CoolAirVw Yes, I see you've noticed that my car with huge stone rollers for and aft requires foot power to get rolling, but interestingly enough we perfected perpetual motion because you'll notice the car doesn't need any foot power to keep going. I wonder what happened to the technology, it seems to have been lost.... Regarding bicycle repair, decades ago I road raced bicycles and did lots of work on mine and others bikes. I still have a lot of the special tools. I even laced up wheels. One of the wear items on bicycles that get a lot of mileage is the stress wear on spokes that will finally cause them to snap. Usually at the end where the bend is where they go into the hub, so it was just a way of life to have to replace the spokes. Good quality double butted stainless steel spokes were the norm. Being double butted means they're drawn thinner in the middle which shifts the wear away from the end to some degree by allowing stretch in the center. I never saw a failure in the center. Look forward to your bicycle repair video like the rest. I appreciate your efforts on making videos, there's always something to learn and you help me learn my way around the vagcom sofware as well.

@@fredflintstone8048 watching this channel is an excellent way to learn vagcom. vagcom should sponser???? Well vagcom??? How about it. Maybe its because I say, "vagcom" and not VCDS.

@@CoolAirVw I don't know the proper term but I notice that some say vagcom and I can remember that rather than the proper order of letters in VCDS. I purchased the software soon after buying my TDI Jetta. One thing I like is that my subscription to the software has always been in place so I've gotten the updates for free ever since 2008. I don't use it too often because I'm not a professional Volkswagen mechanic and mostly just use it on my own car, but I've felt it well worth the cost.

Seems like a lot of times, a new gas cap is the first thing people do, and it rarely fixes anything. This time, it would've worked.
