This video was very helpful. I have been doing my own pad for 25 years and this taught me a couple of thing. It was the first time doing the rotors and now I wonder why I wasn't always doing them. From the time I left my house to buy all the parts, install and clean up it was 2:40. The local shop(s) wanted $350. For $110 in parts and some labor, I saved $240. My actual time working on the car was about 1:20. Not a bad hourly rate. Just so people know, if you don't have a breaker bar, you can use PVC slipped over a regular ratchet, that is what I did for the rotor bolts. Also, I use a C clamp and an old pad to push in the piston if you don't have one of the tools he had. Thanks to all those that told me it was M8x1.25 bolt to get the rotor off. That helped a lot.

The Bolt hes using to remove the rotor is an M8 x 1.25 I also found the radiator mounts had the same bolts, if you dont have 2 bucks (2 Class 10.9, M8 x 1.25.... $1.99 at home depot) These Bolts also work on the rear drums as well... Thanks for the Video!

a couple things.. 1st - The '08 Corolla I'm working on does Not have the bolt slots in it and there's not a lot of room to do any serious hammering.. I've swung a Large sledge at them, from the outside, even., to try and get one to release cockeyed, to no avail.. Any other suggestions..? 2nd. I notice you install the rotor, right from the box, is there a reason you do not wipe the brake surface with mineral spirits to remove the factory-applied rust inhibiting oil, to prevent brake fade..?

Buck Elsass Hello first things I already sprayed this rotor with brake cleaner prior to placing it on the car. This was done outside of the video. I should have made note of this but I did not my apologies. As for your rotor not having the threaded bolt holes my suggestion to you is to start threading the lug nuts back onto the studs. Do not tighten them down at all just spin them on a few times is all. This is to protect the threads from any accidental damage that may come from hitting the rotor. What you will want to do is take your mini sledge or a decent sized hammer and hammer the face of the rotor where it is attached to the hub. So do not hammer the area where the pads clamp onto but rather the face where the lug studs are protruding from. This is usually the quickest way to remove a stubborn rotor. It also helps to spray the area around where the rotor meets to center of the hub with PB blaster or wd-40 (I personally use pb blaster). After that sits for a few minutes go ahead and give the rotor a few good whacks where I mentioned above and it should come free. Don't be afraid to hit it a fee more good times. Hope this helps and thanks for asking!

Use brake clean and clean off the oil they ship rotors with. You don't want that. Quick spray and wipe down does the trick!

What size are those bolts used to take the rotors off? Having a hard time the rotors are stuck on pitted them pretty badly hammering them
@HelpingHandAutoRepair
@HelpingHandAutoRepair 5 жыл бұрын
Gordon Hood Are you hammering them on the surface where the pads touch them? If you are don’t hammer them there. Put the lug nuts back on a few spins. Hammer the rusted area in the middle of the rotor where the lug studs come out of. I do not know the bolt size off hand. I believe it is a M12 bolt I think the three pitch is 1.25

@HelpingHandAutoRepair 6 жыл бұрын
Brazilian Prince 154 if there is no hole. Put the lug nuts back on hand tight so you don’t damage the threads. Take a hammer and hit the face of the rotor in between the lug studs. Don’t hit the rotor where the pads touch it but rather the area where the wheel touches. Smack it a few good times and it should come off. You can watch my video on the brakes for the Honda Odyssey and you will see what I am talking about.

I have Corolla 2012 and I think the front brakes need replacement. I drove over 25000 kms since the last time I got the brakes changed from a garage. Do the brakes last only 25000 kms.
@HelpingHandAutoRepair

Manish Chugh No they should last longer than that. When you got the brakes changed last were the rotors changed also or just the pads?

what if my toyota corolla 08 rotors dont have holes in them? Is there a special tool to remove the bearing (right in the center of the rotor)?
@HelpingHandAutoRepair
@HelpingHandAutoRepair 3 жыл бұрын
If you are doing wheel bearings, you need to remove the entire knuckle and have the bearings pressed out. If you can’t get the rotor off, you can grab a hammer and hit the face of the rotors (in between the lug studs.

S D This rotor had a lip that was worn into the back of the rotor. The customer asked me to just replace the rotors and pads. When doing a brake job I recommend either getting the rotors turned or replacing the rotor with a new one.

Did you open the bleed screws on the calipers? If you did, you need to rebleed the system. If you didn’t, you might want to make sure that you caliper slide pins aren’t seized up.

You need to check if you have a leak somewhere. It could just be a coincidence that a caliper has seized up, you have a leak somewhere in the system (not just the front) or possibly your master cylinder just took a crap.

You said that was an m12 bolt?
@HelpingHandAutoRepair
@HelpingHandAutoRepair 6 жыл бұрын
Gerardo Marquez to clarify you will need a bolt that would have a 12mm socket used to remove it from the car. If you are using a 12mm socket to remove it from the car. Then it will work in that hole on the rotor. If you don’t have this bolt lying around I sometimes find a bolt somewhere in the engine bay (a bolt that can be removed and put back without a problem) and use it temporarily. If you can’t find a bolt then you can also use a hammer or small sledgehammer to hit the face of the rotor around the hub and it will fall off. Don’t hit the actual surface where the pads touch but rather the flat center portion of the rotor.
