The brake switch pad under the brake switch is under extended warranty. 15 years with unlimited mileage according to the Hyundai parts department. The little rubber piece is what I'm talking about. I have an appointment this Wednesday to have mine replaced for free. My car: 2014 Sonata with 117,000 miles. (You'll need to call about your car.)

@@LehewTech Very good videos. Another bit of advice for the viewers. The pin-out on the Sonata brake switch comes in two varieties...blade and pin. The brake switches look exactly alike, save for the type of pins in the electrical connector and they're not interchangeable. Other than my 2014 Sonata, I've only seen one other brake switch with pins and that was in your video where you demonstrated removing and replacing the brake switch on the wrecked 2013 Sonata with the blown steering wheel airbag. Apparently, the blade type connectors are much more popular. Maybe Sonata changed to a pin configuration and smaller connector in 2014 on their brake switches.

such a small little detail causes such a problem, I didnt notice that there was a hole there before, i was fidgeting with the sensor and somehow got it to accomodate with the prong not aligned to the hole and was ok, today brake light kept on and i knew it had something to be in there but i didnt even noticed the hole for the pad before, i dont have one but ill figure something out. My esc Off light comes on after driving for about 45 minutes & it causes the car to sputter when i step on accelerator. Would replacing this fix the problem?. Thanks for video

Well done. If the little rubber stopper fails, you can stick a plastic body part screw in there in a pinch.

Thanks for the video. When you say "top" and pins 1 and 2, do you mean the pins farthest from the white button? My switch only connects the pins closest to the white button. I don't want to go sticking a paper clip in the sockets unless I'm really sure.

If you’re breaks are still on after make sure the bolt attached to the switch isn’t all the way deep of it’s still trouble shooting it could be because you made the same mistake having someone tell u if the lights are still on is most recommended

Thanks to all for the great information. Some time The autmatic gear of my sonata 2014 does not goes to "R" from "N" unless I turn off the car. Ones my garage changed the Stop Light Switch to fix the pbm. After three months i have ocasionally the same problem. I was wondering if there is a relation ship beween this problem and the Stop Light Switch. Any experience ? Thank you so much to all of you

I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe what can I use if that rubber piece is gone the threads on the switch broke in half so I glued it the way was. Im having a hard time getting the switch out back in.

Isn't it the same switch? This happened on my Hyundai Azera. All of these happened because of this single piece: - ESC OFF light on; - Brake light stuck on (only sometimes) while driving, which can cause accidents; - Gearshift lever stuck on "P" (needed to use the release button to drive); - Cruise control did not work at all.

Would this part burning out cause the front driver side brakes to lock up? I've had an issue with my front driver's side brakes ever since I lost the little part that normally falls out that pushes in the brake light... Young man at the auto store rig me one for temporarily until my part came in. Ever since last week my front driver's side brake has been locking up. Also giving me an esc light. We changed the brakes, rotors and calipers. Still the one side keeps locking up after a few miles. Help! I just bought this switch thinking maybe it's bad.

I have problem with no stop lights and gear shift lock, cant shift from park unless i manually override the console switch and have no brake lights except high mount light. I replaced brake light switch and still have same problems. Does the electrical signal from brake light switch go through the headlight/turn signal switch before going to gear shift switch and rear brake lights?

@@zuck9090 he's talking about the idiotic hole in the metal strut that fits the plunger perfectly, which makes the whole assembly useless without the plastic part that deteriorates over time. Without the hole it would work against the metal. it would be a simple design that just works. This looks like planned obsolescence that could result in accidents on the road from the guy behind you or, in the best case scenario, a dead battery from the light on after the car being shut off.

the dirt cheap temp solution would be a penny and some tape. that would hold for a few days. DAYS, not weeks, months or YEARS.

OR two nuts and one bolt. Nut in the bolt, bolt in the hole with the head towards the sensor, another nut in the other side of the bolt. Better than a penny for sure.

I think for some years and models it depends on the country of sale, but they should have assumed all countries. This is the 2nd time I'm replacing mine. 1st time was dealer.
