I learned about you as a voice in the background of an Ivan video. I instantly saw you were brilliant. I subscribed when you had no videos and thirty subscribers. I have never been disappointed. Having a good understanding of how electric circuits and components work is very important. That allows you to work with the wiring diagram, if the system as its drawn does not make sense you must dig deeper into wiring references to find the information that will lead in the right direction. It's an unfortunate fact that most manufactures draw wiring diagrams differently and then you have information services sometimes trying to make "improvements". Schematics are like road maps, you've got to know how to read them before they can help you . Thanks for the great video Keith you keep adding some big pieces to the puzzle.

Great diagnostics on the 5v ref my man. Knowing the schematics and voltage parameters is key in doing a thorough process of elimination and like always you make it look easy but I know from experience that it takes A LOT of study, trial and error to do what you do. Thanks for simplifying the diagnosing process for us all. Merry Christmas, have a strong, and prosperous 2019 Keith, God bless you and your family.

These days I think Dorman has merged with General Motors ... 😁 I worked on a '11 Impala that failed inspection due to that secondary air system. I found a nuked relay, and valve (valve may have taken out the relay - not sure there). But, what a poorly engineered vehicle that was. Thing barely had 50k on the clock and I'm fixing this stuff, all while the blend door motor clicked away desperately trying to find home - take the key out, lock the doors, and it STILL clicked away! Unreal. Never seen a vehicle built as poorly as that one, and I've been around cars my whole life! Thanks for showing this one. 👍 I'd have got bitten by this, for sure! Guess it pays to look through everything. I'm my own worst enemy - I have no patience. If I slowed down a bit, I'd probably be successful MUCH SOONER. 😉

I usually go to obd global first just to see if the vehicle has secondary air when looking at monitor status. Surprised the car started with the ckp unplugged. Excellent stuff. Many things I've seen on gms to go to reduced power mode. I had dirty throttle body's do this. Tps throttle angle outta whack. Excellent Video my friend.

BigFoote Mobile Auto hello Sir in this case you are right, but he diagnoses up to 31 cars per day,usually 22-24, of course it has his experience but there are other guys more experienced but that take more time to diagnose a car, and that happens because the lack of knowledge!!
@bigfootemobileauto97345 жыл бұрын
That is incredible on the average of 20 to 25 cars a day! Do you have any idea how long he’s been doing this, I guess I could ask him. It is a great benefit to have expert’s like Kieth and others teaching all this valuable information. At 60 years old though I wish I could remember better but that I know just comes with practice and experience. I really haven’t been working in the automotive field all that long but the last five years I’ve been working this mobile business and trying to have the equipment and experience needed that’s the things that I come across. Happy new year brother!

Dont forget I have the luxury of a very densely packed small island as well. But yes most diagnostic work is similar to another car done already for sure. However I do not let that sway my testing procedures , rather I let that speed them up. The filming after halfway is generally because no one wants to get dizzy as I run back and forth to the truck for equipment. Plus if I keep the videos short , people can watch at break time or lunch without having to waste much time.

I just checked the genuine gm service info. On the 5v and low ref bussing it shows air pump solenoid on 5v2. Im still sticking with my comment to ivan that gm has good diagrams. It would have been nicer on the older stuff to see the bussing in the pcm like the 12v on cam and crank tied together on silverados
@josephwash1095 жыл бұрын
I've always found GM wiring diagrams to be the best out there as well (but maybe I'm biased because I grew up with GM products). As long as you're in the know with GM's Regular Production Option codes, they won't steer you wrong. People unfamiliar with GM speak can easily get lost, however, if they don't notice a section of wiring diagram that says "w/ NU3". I also like how GM diagrams sometimes show sections of the internal circuitry inside of an electronic module so you can better understand the circuit as a whole.
@NewLevelAuto5 жыл бұрын
No doubt about it fellas , the diagrams are good. The point made here is to never just read bits and pieces. Give the entire powertrain system an overlook . Especially if something doesn't seem to jive.

Nice Find! This is a case of Alldata not regurgitating factory information correctly. Do you have access to GM SI? If you do pull up Document ID: 1888866. The factory schematic shows the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Solenoid on 5V2, connector X2 terminal 1 with all the other circuits for 5V1 & 5V2. I guess you can point Alldata in that direction and they should correct it. Regardless, a nice find given the incorrect information you were given.

I saw you using the Bosch ADS 325. How does that compare to the Snap On Verus and the Autel? Does the Bosch have scope/graphing capabilities like the Snap On? Or the Autel? I'm looking at the Bosch ADS 625, but the 325 would be a comparison start. Great Diagnostic Video! You'd think GM would learn their lesson regarding the +5 Volt outputs and put the sensors with the least amount of trouble on the same reference, and the more troublesome on a different +5Volt reference. Hence, less chances of a "leaving-you-stranded" NO START!

could someone explain what this air pump solenoid / wallet with wings does and why it was a problem? thanks
@NewLevelAuto5 жыл бұрын
It was pulling the 5 volt reference circuit to ground . The air pump solenoid as they call it is a diverter that opens and allows forces air from air pump to enter exhaust stream. Works like a bellows on a woodstove if you will. Pumping air to heat the catalytic converter up to temperature faster .
@jasonmcnamara20795 жыл бұрын
@@NewLevelAuto thanks for quick reply and explanation. So you could actually just leave it disconnected or would the money light be on and would it not pass your emissions? ( we dont have emissions testing here in Oz yet thankfully ). I also take it there was an insulation breakdown inside the component to pull the 5V to ground? Still wrapping my head around this stuff. Like a puzzle to be solved.

The thing I like about Ivan is he looks at things at a basic level, how is this thing supposed to work, and dives in from there. And he's not afraid of anything, even non automotive relative. And he listens to learn! He and I have shared talks via KZbin on older non obd2 cars for a fix, while he has schooled me on the newer stuff that I rarely see, but am interested in. Like you Keith, he is top notch and leaves his ego at home. Like any tech with integrity, his goal is to get the car fixed right the 1st time, and if it does come back, eat it, then fix it. Love his vids, and love yours too, Keith. There's always something to learn!

Why can't all mechanics be like this guy? The auto industry especially Chevrolet, and sorry to say mechanics, are thriving because of crappy vehicles and we lay money down for a fix, and then find out -no, that's not it? I, for one will never buy another Chevy in this lifetime. All Impala owners from 2000 - 2011 are scanning the net for the same help, -no start engines. B*stard company has no conscious and refuses to take any responsibility. I hope they go under.
