It is reassuring to see torque wrenches being used - as soon as I hear "I do it by feel" I go to a different video - excellent job!

Excellent video, thank you. Just got a 2017 Connie and will be going over it all for driving it in the spring.

Question, what prompted this wheel bearing change? Was it simply preventative or was there a symptom? I just got my connie14. Never had a bike with this much torque and mine wiggles onthe rear end under full throttle. Just wondering if I need to do this or is it welcome to 100+ Ft lbs?

The bike was a used purchase with unknown maintenance. When we removed the rear wheel we noticed a crunchiness when we spun the bearing with our finger. Not bad, but it was there nonetheless. So it was replaced. You shouldn’t feel any wiggling, the 14 is rock solid on a pull. As part of maintenance i would recommend checking bearings but in your case i would give the swing arm a once over too. Ride safe,

Very helpful, thanks for posting! How were you able to get the snap ring off of the rear wheel?
@SCWMoto
@SCWMoto Жыл бұрын
I just used a right angle pick to hook the end and pull it out of the channel. There is enough friction to keep it from sliding in the channel. If it does you can hold the other end of the clip with a flathead screwdriver. Thanks for the comment.

@@SCWMoto Thanks you! I eventually got it with a pick, didn't take too much time or effort. New bearings and O-ring are in for the rear. Thanks so much for posting these clips, very helpful!

What does that o ring actually do. I can't see a purpose for it?
@SCWMoto
@SCWMoto 4 жыл бұрын
That keeps the weather and contamination out of the Cush area. If you notice when i took it apart it was really pristine in there for 30+K miles. Thats due to that O'ring. Grit gets in there, the rubber will prematurely wear breakdown and crack causing weird and at times unsettling vibrations. For a couple of bucks on top of the price of wheel bearings, i just throw them in the cart at check out. Thanks for the comment. Ride safe.

how is this torque squaking thing called?

Hi i believe you are referring to the digital torque wrench. The one I use was purchased from Harbor freight but there are different versions of that design can be purchased from Amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B009GLISI0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_E89AHWQDZ4V1GSX5FSE6

Thanks for the vid, sir. I personally really hated the greasy feeling pirelli angels. I had them on my previous zzr600.

what pressures were you running? ON my bike the Angels feel great, but they seem to like more pressure than other tires I have run in the past.

Could you tell me how many miles on your Connie? Was there a reason for replacing the bearings did they rumble?Thank you
@SCWMoto
@SCWMoto 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Thanks for the comment. The bike had about 42,000 miles on it, They didn't make any sounds when riding, but during the inspection, you could definitely feel a crunchiness to them when rotating them with your finger. Since the maintenance history of the bike was an unknown we just changed them.

@@SCWMoto Thank you for your reply, I’m at 20,000 m at the moment but next time I get my bike up on the stand I will check but hoping I can hear feel nothing. Ride safe

Here's a pro tip for you: it makes zero sense using a digital torque wrench if you aren't going to lubricate the threads of the bolts first. You are losing over 40% of that torque effort to friction, therefore you don't have the correct pretension on the bolt, so you may as well use that clicker wrench. Lubricate all fasteners liberally with anti-seize first before torquing, except for spark plugs, don't lubricate those threads. BTW, I'm a mechanical engineer.
