I am honestly surprised that this series was not a sweep for the Celtics. Lakers were clearly undermanned compared to Celtics. They have guys like sam cassell, eddie house that will provide good quality minutes, and they'r no pushovers too. imagine if you are derek fisher, you had to deal with different bodies all the time, different playing style, it creates mental fatigue producing lapses in the defensive end, and errors in the offense. Let me dissect that further: So you're derek fisher defending rondo, and he's an attacking point guard so you are weary on his speed, his dribbling skills. Then Sam Cassell will come in, who is both a shooter and a post up player. So then, that adds to your defensive dilemma trying to be sturdy on defense when you are being backed down. Then you have Eddie House who will be running around coming up from curls looking to be open for a spot up shot--- these 3 celtic point guard is a defensive nightmare for FIsher. His backup, jordan farmar, is a young inexperienced point guard. So most times, Farmar will already have defensive lapses just being on the court surrounded by Celtics Fans shouting Beat LA. Fisher was clearly on this fight alone -- a 1v3 fight. Then you got Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom whose matched up to Kevin Garnett. Now, KG is a monster to say the least. He is a matchup problem. In the series he is clearly the best frontcourt player. Maybe Gasol can try to match up a little bit, however the problem lies with Celtics frontcourt reserves: Perkins, PJ Brown, Leon Powe, Big Baby Davis --- These are heavyweight guys that once they enter the game they will push Gasol, push Odom over and over again. Gasol/Odom trying to battle these heavyweights all game, then will deal with a monster KG is completely onesided. The only position where the lakers are not undermanned is the small forward position, they have Radmanovic, Walton, and Ariza (coming off an injury). But alas, the small forward of the Celtics is where there star player is: Paul Pierce. Any of those 3 laker SF cannot match with Paul Pierce. Well, there's 3 of them, maybe they can overwhelm Pierce with 3 different types of defensive coverage? But NO. Pierce is not the only Celtic SF, they have Posey another veteran that offers a good relief to Pierce. This SF position is the only matchup that could've favored LA, but Pierce is truly a man on a mission this 2008 year. All in all, Celtics taking 6 games to eliminate this LA team is a testament of how good the coaching staff of the Lakers were (headed by Phil Jackson) on how they were able to atleast survive even being undermanned. Celtics though was clearly the better team. They have a steady coaching staff with Doc Rivers and Tom Thibbedau. The 2 LA wins are both close games. Celtics winning game 4 shows how capable this Celtics team in just trashing the Lakers. And Game 6 lopsided win is the best example of that. I love this Celtics team, but it was a sweet 2010 vengeance for Kobe and Co.
