This video shows how to replace the front brake pads on a 2008 Suzuki SX4. The process is similar on most cars, so you can use this to guide you for doing this work on almost any car made since 2000. (Some cars will have electrical brake pad wear indicators, so you'll need to deal with those -- this Suzuki does not have those.)
To shoot this video, I used a loaner Panasonic AG-CX350 camera. I shot in 4K at 60 frames per second using a 200 Mbps HEVC codec. I then editing the raw video using Adobe Premier and rendered it as a 4K 60 FPS file at 60 fps. The mic I used was a Sony ECM-88.

Bob.....this saved me 450 dollars. I like the way you get right to the point and use regular wrenches and stuff in my garage

Thanks. I really wanted to show how to do this with tools just about any backyard mechanic would have. I appreciate you taking the time to mention that.

Hi BOB Good video, but from a safety point of view I would not rely soley on a sissor jack when working on a car such as replacing brake pads.I know that you did not get under the car but I believe one should also use at least one axle stand on the side that you are working on for safety, just in case the sissor jack fails/slips which they have been known to do.

You are right -- always use a jack stand under a car. I was hurrying to move the video along, but should have done the basics.

Hi Bob, also coming from your Panasonic AG-CX350 review. I'm considering buying this camera to do my own car-repair videos. As you've done it in your garage, how did you find the handling of this camera ? Was it ok to shoot at low height ? Which tripod did you use ? I'm also wondering if you did anything to keep the camera clean (did you removed your gloves every time you had to move the camera to change scene) ? Any issues with the camera during the shooting ? Sorry for asking all these question, would be very grateful if you could answer some...

Thanks for the comment! My wife was handling the camera, so I didn't have an issue touching it with my dirty hands. I use an inexpensive but decent Benro tripod, nothing special. The CX350 is a little heavy for that tripod, but I didn't dig out my heavier tripod. No problem shooting with the CX350 at low heights because of the nice fold-out display. The CX350's display is much brighter than the display on Panasonic's UX180. The camera worked perfectly for the week I had it -- no issues whatsoever, except that I couldn't get the gain switches to do anything. Probably a menu setting as I mention in the review video.

Hi Bob, coming over from your excellent Pana AG-CX350 review. A couple of questions: what NLE did you edit the footage with? What was the rough filesize of the footage? What hardware did you edit the video with? Just trying to understand how easy/difficult it is to edit such a high fps/mbps codec. Many thanks!

Thanks, Sheik! I edited this using Premiere Pro CC. My computer is a 7th-gen i7, Windows 10, with a GTX1050 display card. The computer is decent, but it's a couple years old and certainly not the fastest possible configuration. It was a little sluggish editing this material, but workable. The video was recorded at 200 Mbps, but I don't have the files with me to say the rough size of a particular file. Of course, I rendered it to a 60 Mbps 4K file for upload to KZbin. My goal was to see if I could work with 200 Mbps HEVC files... and I could!

Bob Kovacs Thanks a lot Bob for the quick answer! Guess my 2years old I7 Laptop will struggle with this. But that‘s the way it goes ;-)

maybe a little anti-seize on the pads where they ride in the bracket as well as some silicone on the guide pins?

Yes, I have some brake lubricant and probably should have used it. That would have slowed down the video, especially lubricating the guide pins. To get at those, you have to peel off the rubber boots over the pins, then lubricate and re-fit the boots. It's not hard, but it would slow down the video... and the video is already kinda long. Still, it's a good idea to take the time to do that.

Adding brake lube to the ears of the brake pad where it slides within the hardware isn't optional, this will make it hard for the pads to move and could cause them to stick or wear unevenly

You left out one of the most important parts. You have to clean the stainless steel channels unless they give you new hardware which in your case they didn’t. One of the main things to remember is to get the correct grease that any auto parts store sells, and grease both ends of the pads and the channels that the pads ride in two prevent sticking and drag.
