Holy moly what an excellent and compact video about figuring out why my 4runner won't start. I wish all the car repair videos on KZbin were this respectful of my time while trying to figure out what's wrong.

Great video. Straight to the point, and answered my question which allowed me to fix my problem. Saved me a few hundred bucks by not taking it into the shop.

Viewed this tonight and going to attempt fix on 2011 4 runner. This was so informative I feel I will find the problem. Very good and informative. Going to use your tip to jump the starter first to see if that works...thanks so much!

This video is awesome - best and most clear description I've had - wish I had knowing this prior to replacing my starter when I was stalled away from home - but even after replacement I was still having problems and sorted it out because of Lehew! Thanks!

Great video!! Any recommendations on the best way to check if the neutral safety switch is working? There's no power coming from the starter relay tab you marked in yellow, but there's power to the 7.5amp fuse with the ignition in start position and the starter works if power is sent directly

Thanks for the great video, concise and direct. My issue is that the car starts, i have a new charged batery, a new alternator but no shifting out of park, no accelerator, no radio, no ac or other electronics. I replaced 140 alt fuse and will not go

Thank you so much for this video. I am looking to install a kill switch in the 4runner to deter theft, and the complexity of the fuel system led me towards wiring the killswitch to the starter instead. Your video shows though how easy it is to supply power to the starter even if I have a killswitch... can the same pretty much be done with the fuel pump as well? In other words, if the kill switch cuts power to the pump, can a thief just give it power as easily as you have shown with the starter? My feeling is that the most surefire way to do this is to literally intercept power at the fuel pump itself, but that will involve removing a bunch of stuff at the rear driverside seat... not ideal

Awesome video. I had a bad connection on that relay which I 'fixed' by tightening up the little pressure clips inside that hold the relay pins. Unfortunately I've also gotten a 340 and 345. I'm hoping those can be triggered by this bad connection and that's why they showed up.

Thank you that was very informative and easy to understand. I'm having an issue where my 08 4runner starts intermittently. Any ideas what might cause that?

Great video. Can you recommend the best place to wire a kill switch on an '09 FJ? Can't seem to get the fusebox out, to wire it into the FP relay. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the valuable info! Can you tell me what that box is that is attached to the side of the fuse box? I have a 2005 4Runner that has that box and another just like it that is attached to the adjacent side, but I don't know what they are.

I have a similar problem on my 07 4Runner, when it's cold it starts up just fine, but when it already hot (normal running temperature) it won't crank at all. Until cools down it cranks and starts fine.

Heat shield around starter will fix it
@adamseede5618 Жыл бұрын
100% on what Lalofelix73 said about the heat shield around the starter. Went through a few batteries and starters before a great technician disassembled my starter to find it was expanding and seizing up under heat, then after it cooled it would start fine, just how you explained it. Trying to start it hot would put such a load on your battery, draining it prematurely and making you chase the problem all over the place.

What should the voltage be on the yellow pin
@sonnyjadun11692 жыл бұрын
It should be less than 7.5 amps or the fuse under hood will be blown.
