Gotta say that I appreciated you giving credit where credit is due at 11:16 on the stainless steel bolts Toyota uses, but I will just take your word on the quality of the stainless and skip doing my own test like you at 11:56, LOL!

I have a 1998 Sienna and was noticing long 10-second crank times recently when starting from a cold start after sitting hours during the day or overnight. I also noticed a strong gasoline smell near the driver side rear, around the gas filler neck. I looked under the van yesterday and noticed a wet spot on the rubber tubing coming from the fuel pump, about 4-5 inches before it attaches to the metal fuel line. I turned the ignition to "On" (but not "Ignition") to start the fuel pump and sure enough, a steady tiny stream of gas comes squirting out that wet spot on the rubber hose. Just wanted to know if I could just cut out the last 6 inches of the rubber fuel hose and splice in some hose with a connector and a couple of clamps? The other end would slip onto the existing metal fuel line. I can reach everything by just jacking up the Sienna a little bit, and I wouldn't then have to mess with draining and dropping the gas tank to replace the whole hose. Can a spliced-in hose survive the 40-60 PSI or so pressure of the fuel line system? Thanks.

@@thebordernow they make nice barbed fittings for splicing lines but I’m not sure I would trust it that is a lot of pressure, if I had to do it I would use the screw together type that are used on hydraulic lines👍

Thank you for explaining & simplifying the process. I feel this is a job I can do instead of brining it to the shop. (woodworking background) PS I have nothing against the shop. I just have more time than money. :)

Hello . Thanks for the great videos and recommendations . I have a 2008 XLE sienna with 170k miles that needs a front wheel Bearing, front sway links and rear shocks and 4 wheel alignment. Total of $1000. You think it’s worth fixing . Everything else with the vehicle is in great shape . Owned the car since new … thanks

Toyotas are good vehicles we own a 2005 highlander with over 300,000 miles and we just replaced all the struts and sway bar links. Knowing the history of a car means a lot if it was mine I would fix it 👍

We used the pump that O’Reillys carries, never had any issues out of them you can get them cheaper off line but I prefer the local parts store just in case of a warranty claim 👍 thanks for the comment and good luck👍

Did that solve the problem for you? I just changed my EFI Relay & Fuel Pump Relay and the problem has not resurfaced. I am going to watch and see if it comes back. I'm the past year I have also changed the EVAP canister, purge/solenoid valves and the associated hoses/tubing. All stemming from the 'Gross Leak' engine code, P440 I think it was..

We forced air in the tank with an air compressor and unhooked the fuel line at the front going to engine and it forced it out it came out slow but we saved all of it 👍thanks for the comment

I drive a 2005 sienna and I'm currently having similar issues car will take a while to turn on. My question is when you turn the key can you hear the pump click on or is it to quiet to hear from the outside?
@ChristmanGarage2 жыл бұрын
You could hear this one from the outside but it would only run for a few seconds when you first turn the key on they are designed to prime up and then turn off until the engine cranks👍 maybe this helps thanks for the comment

So, def a shop's doin' that for me. However, I recently put double-strength Rislone Fuel System Cleaner, and Catyclean Emissions System Cleaner and my Sienna is getting a few miles a gallon better fuel economy. I think the fuel system was dirty, and the emissions system probably too? No hard starting, just poorer fuel economy. And, by cleaning those systems I'm tryin' to avoid replacing the fuel pump/filter.

I'm having a problem on my 2005 Toyota sienna V6 3.3 I have changed out both of my O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 bank 1 sensor 2 which was coming up on the diagnostics test and it is still not clearing my Vsc track on trac off and check engine light on my dash. Someone had looked at it and told me it's a problem with detonation because it's making a horrific noise only while in drive when I push on the pedal. The only other reason I can think of why it's not getting fuel is the fuel pump fuel filter would this be your thoughts as well? What else should I check

Most likely not a fuel pump sounds like a vacuum leak, intake gasket, or possibly a purge valve. Maybe this helps thanks for the comment

I have the same thing! I have the check engine light on the dashboard as well as the track on track off in the VSC whatever that one means. I've changed bank 1 sensor 1 bank 1 sensor 2 and still cannot clear the codes I have a problem with what they say is called detonation. Only when I'm in drive and pressing the gas to accelerate its making a horrible noise they're telling me the gas is not getting to the engine is the problem. I'd love to know what fixed yours

@@ChristmanGarage I am having a problem with detonation 2005 Toyota sienna I have changed out both bank 1 sensor 1 bank 1 sensor 2 it did not clear the codes what should I do for my next step I was going to do this fuel filter. Should I do something else first to save unnecessary spending how do I get someone to check my pressure and Purge valves as you mentioned. What kind of shop should I use?
@ChristmanGarage Жыл бұрын
@@valeriediscon137 purge valves are located usually under the hood and purge the pressure in your evac system. Vent valves are usually close to gas tank and open the evac system to allow you to put gas into the tank without a vapor lock.

Where can I find the fuel filter for a Toyota Sienna 2008?
@ChristmanGarage2 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t have a “serviceable” filter. It just has a filter or screen in the tank . I have always thought it was weird that a lot of newer cars only have a filter in the tank and no maintenance filter that can be changed. Thanks for the comment👍

@ChristmanGarage3 жыл бұрын
Well let me start by saying when your check engine light comes on on that Toyota the trac light and the Vsc light comes on at the same time kinda makes the dash look like a Christmas tree. When the light goes to flashing that usually indicates a random misfire in the ignition. Personally without looking at car I think you may have some others problems other than the fuel pump.🤔thanks for the comment!👍
