Messed up while transferring the engine to the new module. Had to understand pull-release mecanisn to salvage the $300 part. Was able to do that, but I have a feeling that I the door is not sliding open to it's full extent.

Great job with this. I never would have attempted this without this help. Even still it was a tough job! I was installing the unit on the driver side, so which color cable went on the top side (bearing side) of the spool was a little confusing. If anyone is doing this for driver side put the silver cable on the bearing side of the spool, black cable on the lower half of the spool. I think it almost has to go that way being dictated by how the cable exits the spool to go to it's slot in the spool cover.

Thank you! This video was very helpful as I fixed the same problem on my 2006 Sienna. I used the full kit so the cables and sheaths were already assembled but all the insights you provided were quite useful.... not the least of which was simply backing off the nut that holds the track rather than taking it off completely. If I had not watched your video, I probably would have done just that. So great job. Thanks again.

When spooling the cables on the driver side you put the cables on backwards. So the white cable goes on the bearing side and the black goes on the metal piece side

Thank you so much for your videos... I was able to successfully replace sliding door cables on my 2004 Sienna. My advice would be to 1. Take pictures every step of the way as the they are mostly 10 mm bolts and it could get confusing. 2. The cables from ebay are difficult to attach to the end caps they send as they break apart easily, I ended up soldering the cable and then filing them with a Dremmel to fit. 3. The doors don't slide all the way when the window is open by design. I scratched my head quite a bit on that. 4. The two bolts along with a philips screw that you remove from behind the door has to be put back the putting the window glass. They are tricky to align ... but once aligned, use a screw driver to push the metal from the inside and tighten.

I like the soldering idea. In my video I ended up running to a local hardware store and buying a set of different ferals. Worked good also. Yes take pictures. Glad it helped.

Just got a pricing on 2 parts. 1.) $639. 2.) $469. Mine snapped just above the gas door. That cable assembly is $469 + $235.90 for 2 hrs. labor charge.

You rebuilt the part with a new cable and cable tubes! I wonder why you did not get a complete cable assembly like the one offered by Dorman ( part 924-550 Right side) or other aftermarket. With the ton of work to remove and install the part you added extra work. I skipped part of your video from 5:30 to 17:00 since I won't need that because I'm getting a complete cable set from Dorman. It's already as difficult as transplanting a kidney through someones colon. Good video though.

Hamad Alganis I agree. This isn't the easiest job. When I took my door apart the first time the housing assembly wasn't broken and the cable and sleeves are only $85.

If, by chance, the ferrules on the cheap replacement cables I buy DO NOT break, how long can I expect them to last before they DO break? I'd punch my head through a wall if it break within a year and I have to do this all over again! Also, I do not know how you can do work like this with a watch on. lol Bah. I have to do this on the driver side....so mirror of what you are doing. And that can get confusing.
@theshineing
@theshineing 3 жыл бұрын
Lol, I originally used one of the ferrells that came with the kit and the other one broke so I had to replace it. It still works today. You should be fine if you can get them to work they just break easy. This install has like three videos the colors of the cables need to be inverted. Look through the comments and you will see. It's in the comments of one of the three videos.

Ahmed Hashoosh I'm not sure. I ended up buying the ones off of eBay. You could a cable in place than create your own. Remember it needs to be tight. Wish I could help more.

So the cables are 1/16? and you had to go buy your own ends to complete this job because the supplied ones are crap, and that cost you 85 bucks?.. No wonder that they give you extras cuz they know they are junk and WILL FAIL.. Most if not all of these cables rust then snap at the rusted point, DO NOT use the broken door until you fix it otherwise you will roll the broken cable piece over itself on the motor pulley then break the outer guide cap on the motor. I was going to buy these but after seeing this video and the quality of the parts I'd rather measure my old cables and replace them with aircraft cables that will last forever, which can also be purchased at HD or Lowes.. Can you imagine doing this again because the supplied cheap, crimped by you ends slipped off the cables on the first or second test of the already assembled door.. I'd be throwing my hammer through my neighbor's kitchen window in anger as I don't like him anyways.
@theshineing
@theshineing 5 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea! Let me know how it works. Also make sure the hinge isn't warn out which will also cause the cables to wear out prematurely and break. Thanks for the comments.

@ricardomierz8467
@ricardomierz8467 4 жыл бұрын
@@StarmanDX Better, I bought a roll of stainless steel cable of of Ebay which is the same diameter and just cut to fit and it works fine... The original cables are steel and are plastic coated which in theory should last but the plastic covering cracks over time and the water gets in and under the rest of the plastic where it is sits, freezes and cracks some more of the plastic shield and the cable eventualy rust through and fails.

Dear sir, can you tell me which parts you ordered and from where? The dealer said we should order the motor too and the whole bit is over $400. I'd like to see what's actually necessary and where to find.
@theshineing
@theshineing 3 жыл бұрын
I found the parts on eBay. I would just taking the door apart first and making sure that the housing is not broken. More times than not the cable is broken. Also make sure you check that the door is not rubbing when opening. I just searched 2008 Toyota Sienna door cable. You should see the kit for about 80 bucks

@@theshineing thank you so much for responding! Okay, I'll see if my husband is up for the challenge. My mechanic said he was willing to give it a go (he's never done this exact thing) but he wanted the parts first. The dealer said we HAD to replace the motor too but that doesn't seem right. Not sure where to go from here since the mechanic will do it but I need the part first 🤔
@mollyruthe6947
@mollyruthe6947 3 жыл бұрын
@@theshineing actually, may I ask another question? Did your door still automatically open when cable broke? Ours will still work but then the cable that's broken gets in the way and it also won't close. Does that sounds familiar? If so, did you JUST replace the cable?
@theshineing
@theshineing 3 жыл бұрын
@@mollyruthe6947 Yes the cable is definitely the problem. If you wanted to let the mechanic watch all 4 of my videos on how to do this it would help a lot. The fact that your door will open means that the motor is just fine. The cable is the only problem. They get worn out and break with that heavy door. I would still remove the door panel and make sure the housing is not broken. There's a kit with the cable and the housing and there's a kit with just the cables. The dealer just wants to sell you the $400 part plus labor. Your mechanic can do this it's not too bad. Good luck
