My wife and I got this done following your directions. It took us 2.5 hrs and we paid $75 for the more fully assembled version of this kit via Amazon. It was well worth the money. We have never done this before but with your video and the more assembled kit, we got it done with no problems. Thanks for making it!

Thank you for your video on how to repair/replace the Sienna rear sliding door cable. Excellent video. Mine was a 2009 Sienna, logging about 190K miles. In my situation, the cable snapped on the rear passenger side. Ordered the replacement cable kit for about $100. Like to add 2 extra tips: Tip 1: On opening the cable wheel, I noticed that the cover is cracked, almost the entire top cover cracked. One of the screw position was also snapped. Initially, I had thought of gluing it back using superglue or maybe epoxy. Then I thought I have some ABS piping cement - the yellow glue for joining drainage pipes and seeing that the cover looks like ABS material anyway, I tried using the yellow cement and It worked. Tip 2: The cable stops that came with the kit as Boone mentioned is pretty crappy. It will crack when you hammer on it. As Boone suggested, I got a bagful of the cable stop ferrule from Home Depot. The bag must have contained about 20-30 stops for $2.50. The ferrule works really well. The one I got was small enough (1/16") that if you hammer it flat enough, you could actually slip it into the slot on the wheel without having to grind. When you hammer the aluminium ferrule, do it on only one side so that it has a good grip of the cable. In my first attempt I hammered the ferrule on 2 sides. I thought it looked good but the cable stop snapped on first try after assembling it in the van. At that point, I did not bother taking out the whole assembly again but just took off the cover and re-install a new cable stop. That was when I realized that it can just slide in to the slot and with a better grip. So far so good after testing the door opening and closing for about 20 times.

I just fixed a 2008. I was half way through the repair when I realized I had to order the entire cable assembly. My motor wheel was also slightly damaged and had to JB weld in one of the cables so it would stay secure in the wheel. Chances are you will need more than the cable to repair the system. Hardest part is feeding the top pulley and cables up into the top of the door. If you have all the parts you need, this is a pretty easy job when you follow these videos.

Yes I forgot to mention that if the housing is broken you will need the entire assembly kit. Thank you

Followed all steps. Door works perfect now. Part 2 where he said buy the door cable stop from Lowe's, YES make sure everyone follows. The cable stop comes with the kits is pretty shitty. Use better quality cable stop or you might have to redo the whole thing.

Thank you for the info Boome. Could you eliminate the power assist option and just have the door operate manually by cutting the cable?
@theshineing5 жыл бұрын
Yes but you will also need to take the spool of wire or also and disconnect the motor.

Don't know if you monitor the comments here Boone but I have a question. I just bought a 2006 Sienna in amazing condition, but as I guess is usual for most brands of minivans this old, neither sliding door works automatically. I can hear the motors running (no nasty noises) so I know it's not an electrical problem. I don't see any sign of cables hanging out of the track, so I am assuming the previous owner removed the broken cables and left the doors to work manually rather than pay a thousand or more for dealer repairs. I have seen two different replacement kits on eBay, one with just the cables and tubes for $30 US and another with cables, tubes, and also the pulley cover (and pulley too I think) for $80 US. I don't want to rip it all apart and then wait for a couple of weeks for delivery from the US to Canada so I'd rather have the parts on hand before I start the job. Do you think it is likely I will need the additional parts of the more expensive kits? As I said, the motor noise when the door buttons are pushed is just a normal-sounding whine so I think the old owner just stripped out the broken cables and there is nothing rubbing on the pulley.
@theshineing5 жыл бұрын
The only way to really tell would be to take the inner door panel off and down on the bottom you'll see the motor housing take those three screws out of the motor housing and look and see if the pulley is there. I don't know what the previous owner did they might have removed them or they may still be there

Auto open stopped working on both door when someone tried to manually close one of the doors. Is there a common denominator, like a fuse ? Odd that both doors stopped working at the same time when only one door was ' misused .'
@theshineing6 жыл бұрын
First I would check the "DOOR SLIDE OFF" is not on. Down and to the left of the steering wheel. There is a fuse and a relay that play a role also. It sounds like the button got pushed by accident.

How to unlocked the door when it is completely locked and cannot open? You could notice that the automatic kicks in but the door remain jammed and cannot slide open, even when you tried manually.
@theshineing5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like the cable is broken and jammed in the motor. When that happened to me I had to put it in manual and kinda force the door to open slightly. Than unhook one of the cable end connectors.

Kent Her the steps are the same, but the color of the cables will be different. Just remember the black coated cable will go to the back of the vehicle.
@dsteinhil6 жыл бұрын
The black cable will end up on the door side of the spool for the driver's side. Just finished the repair - thanks again Boone! Saved me about a thousand bucks at the stealership.
