To avoid loosing the car memory change the battery while the car is turned on. I tried it on my 2014 730il and it worked like a charm.

Recent went through this process with a highly rated memory saver from Amazon that maybe cost $17. The one featured in this video has increased to $45. Completed the process and after starting the car back up the dash lights wouldn’t come on, wipers came on nonstop and the nav display didn’t come on either. After a panicking and thinking I blew the control unit I looked around and saw that this is cause by a blown OBD fuse. After replacement of the 5A mini fuse the car worked perfectly, minus having to reset everything of course. ‘09 BMW 750il. Hope this helps someone.

Franc & others, how do you open the trunk if you close the trunk after removing the battery? Using the front boost points with boost pack & jumper cables connected to battery will not open trunk. The lights in car do not turn on. Nothing... Closed trunk because of rain, not it will not open.

There is a keyhole to the right of the 'open trunk' button. Use the emergency key in the key fob.

@Fransisco Amaya Hi, I have a silly question. After hearing all this I was wondering if I can cheat. I got a new Interstate H8 with 900 CCA on Craigslist for $60. I’m not trying to buy the memory saver or scan tool to register the battery so could I take this to Advanced Auto to get it installed or do I have to go to the European shop that charges $150 an hour?

Ok why not use jumpers to the terminals with the new battery and that way you don't loose POWER nor do you loose memory , then just put the battery in place?

It needs programming yes if not your battery will drain quickly in some cases at least or often even cause electrical issues like no Ac or fuel gage won’t work.

I use any cheap battery but for any bmw make sure to use OEM Genuine BMW AGM batteries! My FRM failed because i didnt and it costed me $2,000

Francisco I have a question, I changed the battery on my car (I don’t have a memory saver) I seen & heard from other techs that you can leave the car running while you swap out the battery. That’s what I did but as soon as I disconnected the negative terminal the car shutoff. Does that mean the alternator is no good or is that normal? Thank you

That is not recommended to do it because the alternator doesn't change the battery at 100% by design, you can mess with your electronic modules. The engine shuts down because the battery voltage goes higher that normal and the computer protects the system. Use a memory saver to prevent issues.

Francisco Amaya ok thank you. I changed the battery & it worked fine for 1 day, then it gave the warning increased battery discharge again. Then after a few minutes after it said “Drivetrain malfunction” & the car started to idle rough & then it turned off & wouldn’t start. I let it sit for about 15min then it started up just fine and ran great until today. It did it again, have you ever encountered such a problem? Thank for all your help & knowledge.

I love your videos, am subscribed, and have a question about a major problem I have after I replaced my 2012 F02 Battery. I used a memory saver in the OBDII port connected to another battery. After the battery swap my BMW started right up but I've lost all (and I do mean ALL) electronics. My HVAC, Instrument cluster, Radio, etc. are all out. I can still drive her but it's in the limp mode. Any thoughts what I may have fried? I'm hoping for a fuse or relay but I'm concerned I may have damaged one or more of my major computers/modules. You could lose memory like: Radio set up A/C Transmission adaptation Engine adaptation Navigation memory Mpg memory Etc,.. No all are applicable but they can happen In major case you can loose important engine or transmission memory. If the vehicle is in a good condition, only the radio and navigation system memories will be lost.

I have a 2013 BMW Li and the headlights are stair cased on the ground at night it seems the left light shined more down when driving and the right side shines ahead perfectly but it is giving me trouble seeing to drive at night. Took it to bmw and they took the headlight out to see if it was good and they said it was and maybe the car sits up or down 5cm (can’t quite remember) and maybe that’s why the smart lights are shining downwards.. is there a way I can wedge something under or on top of the light to even it out. I need to fix it because it looks so horrible at night and embarrassing

The adaptive headlight has a pre-set level that can be adjusted manually. You need to adjust the level of the headlights manual to fix that problem.

Ok, you have a 6 speed automatic transmission. Buy the ZF lifeguard 6 transmmision fluid, it is the OEM fluid. You can buy at Amazon store.
