I've got a 159 and tbh this generation of Alfa is no where near as unreliable as people think, I have a 1.9 but know many with 2.4s, 2.2s and a few 3.2s and they all have more miles than me! Shame I crashed mine not too long ago but its nearly sorted!

The 2.2 L and 3.2 L were actually quite reliable engines. And quite good on fuel

Great review, I spontaneously bought one (same colour and the the 2.2) 3 years ago and still love the thing! They certainly are flawed, impractical, very thirsty but it’s a special, rare car with timeless design. Certainly a future classic!

The 2.2 is fairly good on fuel, is it not? I know they also had a 1.8 L petrol and diesel variant! 1.8 L was heavily underpowered but gave combined of 33 mpg. The diesel gave combined of 39 mpg

Owned my 2010 Brera 1750 for 3 years. I adore the car. It’s a joy to drive as long as you remember it’s a GT and not a sports car. I’ll never sell my Brera.

Brought my Brera 10 years ago . its my sunny day ,weekend driver , ive done so much work on it over the years that i could of brought 2 more of them . but i love it ! the design is to die for , absolute gorgeous car , but in practical, slow (even after remap) , not very comfortable. but god i love it ........ heres to the next 10 years !

The Brera is definitely a keeper and will become a modern classic. No matter which engine you have, don't sell it and keep it as a second car for fun driving. I did this with my 1.8 TBI. First car is a Giulia now.

@@BenoitXVIII I don’t think the giulia is a great car, and from some angles, it’s even very bland to look at. There’s lots of the Mercedes and Audi design in it. The 159 and Brera still look stunning and still look bold and distinctive

@@oliverstemp9132 I have a Brera (2.2) and I like it. I have sometimes the opportunity to drive a simple Giulia 2.0 turbo (200 HP). The Giulia still remains probably the best sedan in 2021/22, 6 years after its presentation , and so much superior and funny to drive than the old 939 project (159 and Brera)

Owned a 2.4 diesel one in missano blue for over 4 years more than a decade ago. Huge boot but useless rear seats. Beautiful to look at and never gave me much trouble in over 50000 miles. Still miss it.

Alfa brera, could just look at it all day, I wouldn't get bored, same can't be said for a scirocco or a volvo. I'm also generally not a fan of grey cars but on the brera it looks stunning.

Drove one while I still had my Alfa GT 1.8. The GT driving experience was way way better and this really really surprised me

Also a very smart move on Alfa's side was to design the headlights timelessly round and frame them in the wide dark space between bumper and hood so elegantly, that way the car does not age like all the other cars from the same era that you can tell they're old by the look of them headlights

Good fun review...love my 2.2 pro drive , of all the Alfa’s I’ve owned it’s the most usable daily , the perfect car if you want an entertaining drive without tearing about the place like a hooligan. I’ve had 3 GT’s 3 spiders , 4 GTV’s a 147 GTA a Giulietta 1.4 MA and this one ...The 2.2 is better than its reputation suggests , and as long as you see the car as a GT it’s more than adequate. I’ve replaced the centre silencer with a custom stainless straight through, it’s had a remap and I’ve fitted a Pipercross foam filter ( straight replacement for the OEM ) it’s no rocket ship off the line but in gear acceleration isn’t half bad and it sounds very nice with the prodrive back boxes , Long and short of it is it’s a keeper, handles our roads better than any of the aforementioned cars and goes about it’s business with no fuss. All it’s missing is a Busso !

3.2 and 2.2 are FWD, like the 2.4 5cyl. V6 is available with Q4, however, the Q4 make the Brera/Spider even heavier. With the 1750 TBi you'll get a lighter car, really appreciable on spirited drives. The 2.2 and 3.2 are great options if you just want to cruise with a nice engine sound 2.4 20V isn't bad either, and sounds pretty nice

Lovely video, very well presented of obviously a stunning Brera. Just a tad more research required; you completely missed the fact that this was a Prodrive Brera. That alone speaks volumes. And yes I do have the same car, in Rosso Red.

The Brera is a grand tourer, not an out & out sports car, so the diesel is a great option for longer trips. I get well over 40+mpg in mine. You don't have to be drag racing from the lights when you are in one of the most beautifully designed cars of the modern era.....

You will find the 2.4 Diesel is a real Alfa motor the 2.2 is just a Vectra motor with an Alfa head not so thrilling . Drive a 2.4 that's been tuned and you will be extremely amazed

I found the 2.2 petrol thrilling enough like. Not the best car I've ever driven. I would love to test. I wouldn't mind driving a 2.4 but a diesel does not belong in an Alfa in my opinion

@@MattysCars Yea I totally agree but apart from the 1750 TBi the diesel is the only semi powerful 159 you can get . The 3.2 v6 is a Commodore motor so it's not going to give you any more excitement then the 2.2 . I have had 13 of these Alfa 939 series and I still love them but Alfa Romeo really let us all down removing the busso V6.

Sé posso... Nessuno dei motori usati sulla Brera sono Alfa Romeo, sono Fiat "pratolaserra" o basamento GM con specifiche fiat e alfa romeo riguardo il sistema JTS... Il busso e stato l'ultimo il vero Alfa , il Twinspark è uscito dai giochi metà anni 90 insieme al boxer😢... Come anche i telai, che per carità da quanto sono stravolti sono praticamente nuovi, ma Questo solo per chiarire che bisogna "accontentarsi" che il marchio ancora sia vivo!! La Brera ha un telaio GM che risulta praticamente nuovo visto le molteplici modifiche apportate e il sistema JTS è uscito nei primi anni 2000 sul basamento pratolaserra (fiat) dei "nuovi" twinspark, quindi anche sé il basamento è GM ha specifiche e modifiche JTS by Alfa Romeo, nn so' sé mi son fatto capire!?... Il 1750 Tbi è un motore realizzato x Alfa Romeo dalla stessa fiat prendendo il basamento pratolaserra(fiat) 1.8 (risulta più Alfa rispetto agli altri perché è utilizzato nel campionato TCR e agli alfisti sta' a cuore che il marchio alfa corra nei campionati, anche sé corresse con un motore a gasolio) riguardo i motori a gasolio il 2.0 JTD è parco e prestazionale però il 2.4 ha un buon valore di cilindrata e poi e un 5 cilindri cioè un motore che nn si vede spesso specialmente su una sportiva, infatti la Brera con il 2.4 gasolio ha il primato di sportiva del biscione più veloce e potente con i suoi 210cavalli!!! Il V6 è un po' in ombra perché il busso sé lo mangia anche solo nel "carattere" (almeno avessero mantenuto la cilindrata di partenza del progetto 3.6cc invece Hanno voluto ridurlo a 3.2 bho') il 2.2 è l'unico motore aspirato by alfa che ho visto raggiungere i 100cavalli litro mediante alberi a camme spinti ovviamente scarico e aspirazione aperta è una mappa realizzata da zero, con 220cavalli diventa un bel giocattolo da spingere a 7500giri .... Forza Alfa Romeo

Haven’t driven an Alfa before… so you start with a Brera? Poor choice! The looks are beyond beautiful but any owner can tell you it is not interesting to drive. It still gives a feeling, but it lacks what it needs. The Brera is more a piece of artwork to be admired and appreciated.

That car is underpowered with a 2.2 S even the 3.6 was to heavy ! My 2.4 was much better but unrefined and course . The prototype should have been built with the V8 .

@@MattysCars the car is a beauty that's for sure, but the 2.2 GM engine is not an italian lump and it shows - it has no song like a real Alfa of old. Sadly that goes for the entire 159 series including the v6 - another GM block. Good solid builds that look great with no soundtrack. Even a 147 twin spark sounds better than anything of this series. Still a bargain and a nice looking car.
