A guide on the problems you may find on Brera 2.4's.
Don't let my Guide put you off buying one, I'm just saying the main problems I've found on these cars over the last ten years of working on them so you can look out for them. You wont find all this faults on every car. These are Great cars to own and drive and you wont be disappointed when you do buy one.
I did for get a few of other issues. one being the seals on the power steering rack. if you think of anymore please add to the comments. thanks Beil

Everything is 'prone' to failing or breaking. My arm is 'prone' to breaking if I twist it the wrong way. These are things that COULD happen to it. Not WILL ALL happen to it. I've had mine ten years, I'm female, single, love to drive, so I'm not interested in practical. Yes, it has niggles, but what car doesn't? If you want to tear about like a boy racer - buy something else. If you are put off by this and are going to buy something boring and more reliable - you didn't deserve a Brera in the first place. If you want to cruise around and you can't stop smiling, get waved at, hooted at, gawped at, approached in car parks to talk about it, feel excited EVERY time you walk towards it - then buy one. I simply can't change it because I still absolutely LOVE the bones of it. If you haven't ever felt like this about a beautiful car, then don't waste your money.

2 years on, do you still have it ?, i recently bought a 159 1750 Tbi Ti, it's absolutely stunning, it's been re-mapped to 240bhp (same power as the V6 but a lot lighter) so goes very well indeed, fuel consumption isn't great but that's no biggie.

This is brilliant. I have a Brera and you've listed loads of problems I've never heard of before. I've got lots of different problems instead...! Central locking doesn't work when it's cold, boot doesn't open when it's hot, air con has mind of its own, rocky driver's seat, abs/hill holder randomly fails (brake sensor issue), sticky clutch pedal, crappy passenger side door seals. Etc etc. And I bloody love it.

Bit of a doom-monger. My daily is an 11 year old 2.2 Brera Prodrive with 112k miles. Still feels solid, no rattles and no unusual issues. No other car if this age gets so much positive attention too. Like any cars if this age there are some known issues, however regular maintenance prevents most.

Mine is a 2006 2.2. Jts too. I got it since 2013. Good quality car, it still looks "young" (outside and inside). The look remains great and unfashionable. The only issue : this engine (185 hp) is a little bit too weak for the Brera (1500 kgs and more).

so ALFA. That Brera is a very nice Alfa. Like all Italians it has faults. One day I was talking to my buddy, a car mechanic by the way, who just bought his 5th ALFA, a 164. It has faults he said but I can live with them. Driving an Alfa is a child's dream he said. I will never forget that. All ALFA adepts are like that.

Some things need to be added. Most of them were shown on your channel. Engine pulley can go wrong and should be changed if the car vibrates. Injector harness can go bad because of vibrations. The harness is OK but the connectors need to be changed. Engine mounts suffer from wear or can be dislodged from their position and need to be refitted - again this is because the engine is heavy. All in all this is a great cruiser. IMHO this should have been named Brera GT. Too bad they already had a GT.

@@ItaliaAutos Not in a cold and humid climate that we have in Sweden. They simply aren't built to cope with that in the same way as a Volvo, Audi or Mercedes. My Brera suffered with extreme brake 'fade' on occasion - as in complete loss of braking! Very scary - anyone else had this issue? Alarm system with a mind of its own - went to an Alfa specialist who kept it over a week but didnt really fix the issue. Couldnt complain - gave me a loan car and didnt charge me anything! Rear parking sensors - mind of their own. Main earth cable under battery tray corroded, made patial connection until complete failure. Took another Alfa specialist an age to find the defect and sort. I've never had half of these problems, Just window wire breaking, rear springs sheared off a few times and the seat lean stopped working and don't forget the stone chips on the rear wheel arch with the paint flaking off. Everything else is just your normal car miles maintenance. And why a 159 front on a Brera? Engine wise, the 2.4 is bulletproof for 200k miles with normal maintenance and the chain done ever 60k or 4 years. Remove the egr valve and particulate filter with a remap and you can get around 240hp with no limp home mode hassle anymore, though the clutch will wear a lot quicker. Be aware their are two versions of the 2.4's, the later ones are 210hp not 200hp and the only differences are turbos and longer heater plugs due to the head being thinker. The other engines, well the 2.2... just run for you life! Don't do it! It's got bad hesitation that can be better with a remap but not worth the cost/trouble and it has plastic chain tensioners that might break blocking the oil pump, staring a self destruct. The 3.2 V6 You must have some deep pockets for a cambelt change.

The V6 is a lovely engine. I had one with the automatic a couple of years ago. It is not as revvy as the old Busso V6 back in the day though. Some say that this results in lack of character. I disagree! It is just a different kind of character. The Brera V6 with the Q4 all-wheel-drive system almost feels like a muscle car to me. A very sophisticated and capable engine and a brilliant choice for the Brera. Just be prepared to stop for fuel quite often. 😉

Just wondered what you thought of the gm v6 power plant? I had the 2.4 Brera and it spent most of the time in the garage .dpf blocked and blew bottom end , followed by clutch and gearbox, luckily all under warrantee but car only had 60k miles I want one again so badly but was scared by my experience maybe just got a bad one?

I was really minded to buy because - well, obvious reasons - but maybe I'll wait until the Germans or Japanese make an equally beautiful car. Maybe the LC500 will become cheap someday, it's probably cheaper to maintain and more fuel efficient ...

That car's been hit. The front end is from a Brera, complete with bumper and the silver trim that holds the badge. You can also notice that the bumper's been painted, and not only did they miss the shade of red, they also didn't fit it properly - there's a gap

What is it about the 2.2 JTS engine that you don’t like so much? I am personally aware of the problems with the chain in that engine, but what are the other faults that you would point out? Except being perhaps too weak for the 939, and being heavy on petrol consumption
@ItaliaAutos

Injectors, coil packs, fuel pumps fuel regulators various sensors. All very common for failure and most art hard parts to find.
@Hyp3rRuby
@Hyp3rRuby 3 жыл бұрын
@@ItaliaAutos Are any of those faults more common than some of it's diesel counterparts though? I've really only heard people talk about the chain stretching issue, but likewise i don't hear people talking about fuel pumps, regulators and various sensors failing on diesel engines, when in reality they do. As I've seen from your previous comments, you're only a fan of the 1750tbi, which I understand 100% and agree with you. But just like in your country, prices for those tbi 159's are just in the premium side of the market, making our choice boil down to the 2.2 and the 3.2 engines. I'm really not a fan of the diesel engine (generally), i have a 1.9 8v and maintenance wise it's a great engine, but im missing the sound of the gasoline powered engine.

I’m seriously in the market for a Brera, as for 2 years with an Audi means I miss my 156 like a mad man. However, the 2.4 JTD is sadly quite rare here, the 2.2 JTS is by far the most popular option. What’s your honest opinion on that engine? Cheers

@@sinicalbob4585 I'd put bilstein on and make sure I keep the engine clean, and upgrade the disks and pads... shocks are crap on Italian cars, and they dont last as much as Germans in the interior, latest engines made of alloys , but they are very fun to drive with the right setup not stock. Some Fiats lasted forever 126, 127, 500, I still have a Uno running.
