This era of Fords was wild. My wife's 2009 Ford Focus (with ALL STOCK blacked out trim, RGB interior lighting, and a beefy sub) ran like a champ when we were in college, and we sold it to someone else who still drives it now

@damilolaakanni2 ай бұрын
On more affordable cars. Maybach does two tone paint as an option on some of their cars, but it's an expensive option on what is already a very expensive car.
@Dankcatvacs2 ай бұрын
automanufatures will charge a $5000 for such an option
@Kownterfiet19972 ай бұрын
the problem is most new cars don't have the body lines where 2-tone would look good
@davidp28882 ай бұрын
@@Kownterfiet1997 My father drove a 1980 Olds Cutlass Supreme that was black and silver. I wouldn't say that car had the body lines to make such a scheme look good, but it worked. I agree with you, some cars would look good, others not so much.
@damilolaakanni2 ай бұрын
Not only did Ford switch to unibody for the Explorer, they switched to front wheel drive/AWD instead of rear wheel drive/4WD. It wasn't until 2020 that they went back to RWD, but they still kept the unibody design.

This was the last real Explorer. I hate Crossovers. These hold up much better in an accident with the full frame.

I Miss these Classic body on frame Ford Explorers, Mercury Mountaineers, and Lincoln Aviators. My family had three Explorers a 1992, 2000, and 2006. Then they got a 2010 Mercury Mountaineer, almost equipped like a Premier trim Mountaineer. I Wish Ford brought out the New 2011 5.0 V8 engine out Sooner, it would have fit the 4th generation Explorers and Mountaineers Perfectly.

What 3 valve means is the spark plugs have never been changed because they're so prone to breaking that no shop will even touch the job.
@JeddSmith-i6i2 ай бұрын
Facts. We won't touch plugs on a 4.6, 5.4, or a 6.8. We send them to the dealer, too busy to deal with that nonsense.

Zack, I have an Eddie Bauer winter coat that is a decade older than this Ford. 😁 The odd thing about this generation of body-on-frame Explorer is its independent rear suspension at a time when sedans like the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car still had solid rear axles. 🤔
@aidanpayan69192 ай бұрын
My grandpa had one when I was in elementary school I remember thinking it was really premium at the time and I loved those weird door handles. He didn’t have it long he replaced it with a 2012 fusion SEL which in hindsight was probably the nicer vehicle.

3rd row like a minivan, but the 3rd row has less space then a minivan. Ford discontinued its minivan in 2008 in favor of SUVs like the Explorer. Minivans do have some advantages over SUVs. This SUV is truck-based while the minivan is car based

2007 was the last year Ford made minivans.

I have an ‘06 Limited with the V8 and 4WD. To me, it does ride a lot smoother than some of its competitors at the time due to the Independent rear suspension but it’s definitely no Lexus. I also love how much space it has when both 2nd and 3rd Row seats are folded flat.

My parents had the Mercury version of this exact generation of Explorer while I was a kid, (The Mountaineer). Other than the transmission going out, (figures for a ford product), it really was a good car at the time.

my dad has an 06 one of these. currently at 190,000s miles and still going. screen has never given us trouble. Only thing he dislikes is the gas mileage which is like 18-20 for him. Currently the only problem has been the rear seat which has the power down cargo motor option which failed about 100,000 miles ago so I guess avoid cars with that option.

It can tow more too over the unibody; and trailer tongue weight is less of an issue.

hey zack, you should point out when cars have that key pad entry so you can still get in if you lock your keys in the car. I feel like ford products always have them from this era while gm never did

My mom had a '08 Eddie Bauer with the 4.0L "Boat Anchor" V6. It would make a better boat anchor than an engine, hence the nickname. These looked good at the time, but the interior was full of cheap-looking hard plastics that shouldn't be in a vehicle costing $50k (adjusted for inflation). Her rear A/C failed twice, costing $2k to repair the first time and warrantied when it failed 18 months later. When it was barely five years old and with 95k miles, the transmission started having intermittent problems shifting in and out of O/D. She traded it on a 2013 Mazda CX-9. What doesn't make sense is that her previous car was a tank...and it was a 2003 Ford Explorer! Same engine and transmission and it was actually 4WD (the '08 was RWD). My sister bought it when mom got her '08. It was trouble-free until she hit a deer and totaled it in 2015 with 227k miles.

Very strange that the 2nd row has the 40 split on the driver side instead of the passenger. Passenger is default so you could pick up everyone curb side, only the driver technically needs to get out in the street.

2valves didint have cam phaser noise on start up/cam phaser failure. 3valves such as ths 5.4 3valve had a 2 piece spark plug design that would break when removing. Thats partly why ford owners seek the 2valve modulars except the v10 which doesnt have those timing component issues.

I don't understand the Explorer. A minivan seems like a better choice for most situations, better on gas, easier to use the 3rd row, same amount of space, but some more rear seat comfort features. If you're going off road, a smaller car/SUV seems better, as you can avoid the obstacles.
