Thank you for the kind words! I originally made this video to show the details of these scooters. There was little information about them, at the time. I'm glad I can still share something good with people. 👍

I have one just like it. Or at least it was just like it. I debadged it, except for the speedo, replaced the black seat with a brown one, replaced the blackwall tires with wide whitewalls, removed the plastic oil catch pan under the engine (no Vespa ever came with one of those) and the gray plastic spare tire cover, the starter switch fell off during the first week, I rewired the kill switch to be the starter switch, then a few months later the stator failed, and when I replaced it I removed the electric starter altogether, put it in a box, and put it in the closet. It is now kick start only. The gas gauge no longer works. I traced the problem to the sending unit. Probably ethanol gas destroyed it. I just use the odometer. I also replaced the cat con exhaust with an aftermarket P series Vespa exhaust, and rejetted the carburetor. I now have over 14K miles on it, and except for the stator, starter switch, and gas gauge, I've had no problems with it. It rides just like a real vintage Vespa, and P series Vespa parts fit it. These are wonderful scooters.

Thank you! It's actually identical to the Vespa PX 150 in many many ways. For the most part, it's the same exact scooter, made in the same exact factory, but under a different name since Vespa dropped the PX 150 model some time ago. It is also known as the LML Star.

It's been a good bike aside from the issues I've been having with the bearing race on the crank. It's not a super expensive fix, but it's a pretty in-depth repair process to replace the crank. The Genuine bikes are actually made by Linhai Motors of India, now known as LML. I'm not sure about any factories in Brazil.

I haven't had time or patience enough to finish replacing the crankshaft. I'm about half way into the motor right now and from what I hear, it's a lot of work to replace the crank. Aside from that, I can tell you this. If you get a 2T Stella, don't run it at wide open throttle for very long. Don't ask it to take you over 45 mph for very long. Try not to ride it on the highway. Keep an eye on your oil level, but don't overfill it or it'll leak everywhere. Buy a few spare battery straps.

Awesome video! I'm saving for a 2T Stella right now! Hate to hear about your accident and the problem with the bearing race, that sucks! But I'd like to know more about your experience with the bike since then.
@BlackthorneBuilds11 жыл бұрын
So far, it's been rough. It's a great bike overall, but I laid it over at one point. It's got some body damage, but I was able to straighten out the front wheel and ride it home. Aside from that, it did seize recently at about 2,000 mi. on the nose. From what I have found, this is a chronic issue with the two-stroke Stella. The bottom bearing race on the connecting rod wears out and causes the engine to seize. I was told about 1 in 4 Stellas eventually has this problem.
@BlackthorneBuilds11 жыл бұрын
The Genuine is actually not running at the moment. Turns out there's a problem with the bearing race on the bottom of the connecting rod. From what I've discovered, this is a chronic issue with the Stella 2T and it causes the engine to seize in most cases. The crank must be replaced at this point, and probably the piston and rings.

Took some skin off the heels of my hands because I was stupid and didn't put my gloves back on. Also probably fractured something in both hands near the base of the thumb. Still hurts off and on, but I have full motion. Lucky I had my padded riding jacket on. Has foam "armor" built it and saved me from a broken collarbone and possibly dislocated or broken shoulder. Ouch! I rode home. It was lame.

This is as close to the original Vespa as you will ever find. Back in the 80's a bicycle company named Caloi (São Paulo, Brazil) bought manufacturing rights for this unit and my sister purchased one. They did make it 200cc 2 stroke instead of 150cc. I rode it a lot and loved it. I have wanted one since. I may just get one. I use to do fourth gear wheelies on the damn thing! :) Thanks for the video. Maybe post your ownership experience so far? Reliability?

Mark Tracy I'm about six feet tall and there are times I think maybe it's a little small but it's really not bad. If your legs get cramped, just take a break and walk around! There are aftermarket seats and foot pegs to alleviate your pains too, so that's always an option for taller folks.

Hi Prancer, Do you like your stella? has it it been pretty reliable? I'm thinking about buying one, but on the fence between this at Vespa GTS300. I want the two stroke one. Found some in my area around 2000 what are your thoughts?
@BlackthorneBuilds8 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry for taking almost a year to respond! I like it a lot but the 2-stroke was less than stellar for reliability. I'm sure by now you've found the right scoot for you, but I thought it would be poignant to say I would go with a 4-stroke for reliability, and a 2-stroke if you just prefer them.
@vsk60085 жыл бұрын
what do you mean genuine stella ?is fake also avalable?
@BlackthorneBuilds5 жыл бұрын
A lot of people think the Stella is a fake Vespa. They were made by the same company that built the Vespa, in the same factory in India. Piaggio (Vespa) signed a contract with Linhai Motors (LML) to build their P series scooters. When they stopped making the P series, LML agreed to keep making the scooter but sell it under a different name (LML Star, and later Genuine Stella for the U.S. imported models.) A lot of Italian scooter fans like to talk down at the Stella for some reason but it's a good scooter and comparable to the old P series Vespa scooters. Also, it's only available in an automatic 4-cycle variant now, as far as I know.

@BlackthorneBuilds4 жыл бұрын
It runs really well, honestly. I did replace the crankshaft after a particularly long and arduous ride, but that's been the only hiccup. The bottom race on the connecting rod had excessive wear but it was my own fault. I havent kept the battery charged so now I just kick start it and it runs perfectly. It's an amazing scooter.
