It's a turbo charged 4 cylinder with 355 HP and 0-60 in about 4.2 seconds. When it came out it was the most powerful 4 cylinder production model in the world. Hand assembled and signed engine. Gets 33+ mpg on the hwy!

The v12 is a terrible engine. It produces peak HP and Torque at a very specific rpm. It has no low end and hates revving. The AMG built v8 in this sl63 is the best engine on the face of the planet. Shame it's covered by jankey sensors and overcooked electronics, especially that shitty transmission.

He's probably remembering it as it used to be. Classic AMG cars were extremely expensive and held their value because very few were produced and they were built carefully by hand. Nowadays AMG means nothing. You can get a v6 c class with "AMG" ground effects as a optional package. Gone are the days of resale value in a Mercedes. If you want one, wait 5 years, they'll come down in price 70%

Jay is right, look at the prices now, one's in good condition are already costing 60k again. Give it a few more years and it will be worth more than it did originally cost. Despite the later corrected Powertrain specs, couple other things to note: 1:33 Double Clutch - Nope, it's Mercedes's MCT: Multi-Clutch Transmission, which does not function as well as DSG/PDK, but simply use multiple clutch to replace the Torque converter, otherwise still the same 7G Tronic. 2:57 Airscarf does not produce cool air, it only provides hot air for chilly weather. As expected, I'm sorting out the ABC suspension system and some drive line vibration at 2000 RPM. Unless you're rich or a do it yourself mechanic, avoid this car. Jay, that's not a double clutch transmission. As far as I know it's basically the normal automatic transmission but instead of the torque converter there's a wet clutch. It could be confused with a DCT because it has "MCT - Multi Clutch Technology", but that name comes from the clutches that do the gear change, the drive clutch is still a single clutch unit.
@Augustus22211 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it has a wet multi plate clutch instead of the torque converter. Behind that is like a normal automatic with planetary gears.

@Lemontech7410 жыл бұрын
It's great actually! All we have to do is wait a couple years then people throw 'em away like they've been used to full capacity. So while the price depreciation might not be good for new Benz owners, it's great for anyone who ever wanted to afford their dream car; just a few years late ;)
@AKhellbindeR10 жыл бұрын
The reason is that cars like AMG's, BMW M's and Audi S/RS is driven by rich people. They are everywhere in some places. An AMG Mercedes literally wouldn't get you a second look in Beverly Hills. Many of these people get rid of them as soon as a new model comes out.
@gregraines159910 жыл бұрын
bn2mar2div2 I think what really scares people is the idea that, even if the used purchase price is affordable, the maintenance will break the bank. Unfortunately,sooner or later, the car will need maintenance..
@geekatron810 жыл бұрын
greg raines They will need maintenance, but the thing is, you only have to go in for regularly scheduled maintenance once a year. Granted, that once-a-year maintenance will cost you more than $700 but it is well worth it.
@ACabral7119 жыл бұрын
greg raines Not at all, if you're resourceful and smart. It's harder to work on some Honda and Nissan products than it is to work on a big Benz with god knows how many servos and computers. It's all about doing the repairs on your own in a digestible manner. These cars look daunting on the surface, but if you take a systematic approach to servicing them, they are just like any other car, but with more parts, and a tiny amount more attention required.

Buyer Beware: Here is a brief summary of my experience owning a 2003 Mercedes SL500. I bought this car from a local exotic car dealer in 2009. The car had 34,000 miles, looked gorgeous and drove great but the maintenance costs skyrocketed over time. I kept the car for four years and drove it a total of only 12,000 miles. It cost me $16,000 during these 4 years to keep the car running well and and I lost another $16,000 in depreciation costs when I sold it. The only thing that saved me from complete disaster was a very good extended warranty that covered many of the repairs. The warranty cost $4,000 for 3 years. My Lexus extended warranty, by comparison cost $1,200 for 6 years, but I have never needed to use it.
