I'm doing this exact job this weekend on my Impreza. I too ordered everything Walker from the cat back. The only difference is I found a Borla muffler at the junkyard for $50 bucks from a Crosstrek. I should get nice rumble. Your video helped me confirm I ordered all the parts needed and how that lead donut actually fits on there. Thank you for making this video, it was a big help.

Thank you! I was quoted $2620 to get this done on my 2013 Legacy, but now I feel like we can save money and replace it ourselves.

I’m planning on doing the same repair. I was quoted $550 to get it done…exhaust work is no fun but the parts are just $200 so I’m willing to do it myself. Awesome video!!

I just did this same repair on Sunday. I used the Subaru intermediate pipe and a Megan Raing SS muffler. The muffler uses two different rubber hangers. The rearmost one is the same as the mid pipe hanger. I replaced the bolts, nuts and springs. I had to chip off the donut gasket. It was stuck on really bad. That was the hardest part of the job. I used Fluid Film to clean and lube the one hanger I reused. I replaced two of them.

Great help. Everything that was mentioned is exactly what I encountered.Very good tips.

my car has exactly this problem. I was hoping there'd be another solution than to replace both the mid exhaust and muffler, but I guess not. Guess I have to bite the bullet and take it to the mechanic 😭😭 Thanks for the video though

If taking to a shop they might be able to repair the flange. I typically don't try to repair exhaust because in my experience it's just a band aid. Once one part is fixed the next part goes.

Getting ready to do this but I'm concerned about the flange on the cat side pipe. It's looking pretty rusted on my car and I'm not sure it's going to hold. I have a sawzall and angle grinder. Could I get cut the flanges off both pipes and join them with something? Do they make something to straight join two pipes? I also have a welder but I'm brand new to it so worst case I can slap some boogers on there to make it happen I guess.

They make clamp on flanges. I would try to start there instead of welding. Had fairly good luck with them.

Do you know if the parts are exactly interchangeable between the outback and legacy? I’m finding conflicting information.

Thanks for the video. I have the same problem and am debating between replacing the same stuff you did, or just using 2 split flanges and to sandwich rusted flange back together.

I've had mixed luck with the flanges. They seem to work great for about 6 months then need tweaked. Even with red liquid gasket.

@@bruceyyyyy thanks. That helps me decide what to do then.

Hey man, I have exactly the same problem in my 2011 legacy(muffler and midpipe flanges rusted off). I saw the parts that you linked in the description but amazon says the mid pipe wont fit my 2011 legacy.

That's odd. What does rock auto say? I don't trust the Amazon site sometimes.

Very helpful, I’m just about to climb under and do this myself soon on an Outback. One question, I had to get replacement bolts for the flange between the muffler and mid pipe and ended up just buying another set of the spring bolts that are used between the back cat and the resonator. Do you think these will work fine back there as well? If not, what size would you recommend? Also, I saw you just left the paper label stuck to the mid pipe. Makes life a lot easier there…I was going to try to get it all off.
@bruceyyyyy3 жыл бұрын
The paper will burn off once it's hot. (: I would worry the spring bolts wouldn't be able to be torqued enough to hold the rear flange to the muffler. Not only that but they're way more expensive than just a couple of bolts. I would just use an M8-M12 bolt washer and nut. It's just securing the two together.

@@bruceyyyyy thanks for the heads up there! I’ll grab some today before I get everything off and have to drive a muffler less car to the parts store.

Is the Walker midpipe with resonator stainless as well?
@bruceyyyyy3 жыл бұрын
I believe it lists all as stainless.

Listed as aluminized steel, only the muffler was SS
