This is a good comparison. As a person who started riding motorcycles in '79, I find it interesting that bikes ranging from 750 - 900+ cc's are described as "entry level". I understand the appeal of size & power, but I believe a first-time rider would be much better off with something under 500 cc's. As second bikes, for those that have a couple years experience under their tires, anyone of these machines would be excellent choices.

People are often no more than just gullible idiots when it comes to marketing. All this talk about not enough power just means there will never be enough power until the bank account is exhausted for most. I can understand the desire for lots of power but only in the case of high speed interstate commuting or extensive touring. Most never even ride 10,000 miles in there entire life on the “powerful bikes” but lose tremendous amounts of money in depreciation.

I clicked on this video hoping that my outdated Suzuki C50 would be compared here. It was recently featured in a 6 way comparison in a magazine. It came in 2nd to last with 42 horsepower at the rear wheel. I would just like to add that mine is a 2005 with 51,000 miles and the only problem it ever had was a blown fuse 5 years ago. They have been almost unchanged for ten years and they still fit with that cruiser look. Just thought I would mention.

I have been riding for 35 years. I have owned mostly Suzukis, so I'm biased. If you're a big guy with self control, it'll probably work for you. The M109 has power everywhere. Clumsy getting your feet on the pegs while engaging the clutch? The M109 will lurch you forward with embarrassment with its power and weight. Drop the clutch with confidence because the neutral light is on... but it's not quite in neutral... you and the M109 are going to cross the intersection before you can say stop. Keep your wits about you until you know each other well, and you'll be good.

But they aren't - that's my point. Yamaha has a 250 and 650cc cruiser, Honda had the Rebel until recently, Suzuki has their 250cc, etc. It used to be that a 250cc was a small but decent entry-level bike - and a 900cc bike was for riding across the country. @StrategicPrepper "Entry level" and "beginner" two different things. Entry level cruisers are for after you've graduated the 500 or 650cc and are ready to take on a bigger bike, but don't want to spend $15,000 or more to do it. I've owned 5 street bikes in graduated displacement, two VN900s. If I could find a slightly larger engine with the same styling, I'd buy up. As it stands, I'm modifying my second Vulcan Custom. Most of these besides the Harley will be around that used+with a "talk down." Harley's hold their value a ton though, so don't expect finding one anywhere near the price of a Japanese bike. If the Vulcan 900 is entry level, than what is the Vulcan S or V-star 250? These bikes are not entry level motorcycles. They are mid size cruisers. It wasn't very long ago that 900cc was considered a big motorcycle, but now its called entry level. I think these categories have more to do with marketing than reality. Just like more adventures can be had on a dual sport than the so called adventure motorcycles. I've seen Kawasaki switch from calling the KLR 650 a dual sport motorcycle to an adventure motorcycle depending on the context and audience. Its all about marketing.

I do have to disagree on the Honda though, they are very comfortable on long rides or short rides and the 750 has plenty of power for single riders but lack top end on highways. The star is a great comfy bike but the seat hurts after a day of riding. The long frame doesn't allow you to take curves very well but that's the sacrifice for a comfortable ride. Never rode a Vulcan but many swear by them so I can't say. Maybe they should try something above 1000cc next time because that's where most riders go to choose a good bike for riding

The problem with most metrics is longevity. Look at a 20 year old Harley Sportster, usually looks the day it was new. Look at a metric cruiser from 20 years ago, all the plasti-chrome has peeled, the thin paint fades and the mirrors/bars gets lots of pitting from rust. I tried sanding the paint off a Harley fuel tank and it took 5 minutes with a power sander to make it through the clear coat, theres a reason they cost more.

@skateantiz12: Cruiser is different from a sportsbike, driving a cruiser is easier. It drives neatly with stability. Cruiser gives you more comfort and better grip but they have less speed than sportsbike and you can't corner and turn crusier like a sportsbike. Yeah also crusiers are pillion friendly. You can expect to have a long and comfortable ride with a pillion on cruiser. Also driving a crusier will not help you learn ride a liter sports bike.

I just got back from gawking around my local motorcycle shop. I think I'm still a little stoned from all the chrome. I can't wait for the day when I get to graduate from "wannabe" to "noob".

Of all the vids on youtube i can't find any on motorcycles ground clearance :( You should do it! A best to worst ground clearance video per bike group would be nice :) Im a fan of chunky cruisers but know nothing about this issue. See so many vids where riders on cruiser barely lean at all and ground clearance seems could be a huge if not number 1 issue on which bike to get.

NEED HELP!!!! I am 6'1 close to 6'2. I'm wanting to get a beginner bike and i've been looking at the Honda Rebel, but people say its a little cramped if you are over 6'0. Any of you know I good starter bike for my height?

@ilikesuzuki He didn't say it was better, just that it was the most unique. It has a unique look and feel compared to the other bikes. Rlax?

I am looking for an entry level cruiser but none of these will do. They are all too big. What category would the 500-650cc cruiser be? I cant find any comparison in this range.

What's missing from this video and you don't find anywhere else is where that weight is located. All the Kawi's weight is down LOW. I have ridden the Star, Harley's Electra Glide and the Honda AND THEY ALL felt to small for me and Top Heavy, yes even the Glide. I'm 5'9", 185lbs The Kawi may look big but once you sit on it, it doesn't feel big. I bought a 900 LT as a fist Bike in '07. Still have it and Ride every chance I get. Only thing I would change is the seat. It's not a Highway cruiser. You'd need a 6th gear for that but stay off the HWY's and you can't beat it. Talk to as many people that Ride as you can with as many different Brands. Sit on some Bikes and get a feel for how you fit. Don't worry so much about engine size. Balance and Comfort

I started on a Rebel 250, I love the bike. Its not made for the interstate but highways and backroads it does great for. I have several vids and will be releasing a performance review of it shortly.

+Jakeii HardDance - I just bought the V Star 950, and am very happy with it. It is my third bike, 2nd 'real' bike. - I think Mark Perez may want to look at the Yamaha Bolt. Same engine as my bike, but ergos and styling similar to the 883. - The bolt looks cool like a sporty Sportster Custom. But I wanted forward controls, and I admit the floor boards are chill. - More power there than the 650.
@aimeemotorides84548 жыл бұрын
+mark perez - Those are good bikes. But do you want low down power and pull, and a chill ride? Or do you want to rev it, and go fast, and watch for cops, and try to get low? - Cruiser vs. Sport bike. I say you have to try both. Just be careful.

Well folks, I just have to tell you this. Before deciding which bike you want, try out the Triumph first! Do yourself that favour. Either an America or the Speedmaster. Then you'll know... I did, after 20 years riding Harley's. Now done 6 years on my lovely Speedmaster! And counting. Cheers!

+Fernando Vidal Salas Fernando...

They all get the job done. Youre not breaking any land speed records with these bikes. Cruising purpose only. Get the one you like best. Personally i like the looks of the Phantom. Looks proportionally bad ass. -Keep the rubber side down. Its not what you ride just as long as your riding. Ride on bothers and sisters. 🤘

hey guys, ive been thinking about getting a motorcycle. Ive never owned one, and have limited experience on them. After i take the motorcycle course, would the honda shadow be good for me? I would prefer a cruiser like it, because i really dont have a burning desire for speed. Can anyone offer me any advice about the shadow or becoming a motorcyclist in general? I mean anything helps! Thanks guys!

Don’t buy a bike that doesn’t have a shop in your area. You will be back for maintenance on a regular basis and tires. The Honda has good ground clearance, like the Kaw. That’s always a good thing. Once your bike comes in find out where the nearest Motorcycle Safety Foundation Beginners class is held and sign up. You’ll learn a lot in two days.

Why are beginner sport bikes are like 300's and then beginner cruisers are all about 600-900cc (from the video)
@tylerbates659910 жыл бұрын
A 600cc cruiser top speed around 110-120mph a 600cc sports bike will hit 140-160 mph and get their quicker
@Paiste40210 жыл бұрын
Tyler Bates Its more that the sport bikes rev out way higher. ie 15,000 redline. Cruisers rev out at around 6,000 rpm, can't make the most out of the cc's like the sporties can.
@CountryCruiser10 жыл бұрын
What makes a sport bike beginner friendly is getting rid of some of that power. On a 600cc sportbike one accidental turn of the throttle sends you flying down the highway. With cruisers the beginner friendly topic is weight.
