hey did you get the kit off ebay that comes with the wiring harness and everything? im looking to buy a kit right now today and i can't find anyone that has 100% good things to say about the wiring harnesses, it seems everyone has a 50/50 success rate. which doesn't leave me feeling to confident on which one i need.

So how did you get the aftermarket head unit to stick to the aftermarket faceplate? There is absolutely nowhere to screw the aftermarket head unit to the scoche aftermarket faceplate

I got a question about what happens to the screen at the top above the vents? Is that functional at all or does it just stay black at this point? Do I need something aftermarket to make my steering wheel controls work?

Screen will just say either ford escape, or DVD. And you'll need like a Pac box to retain steering wheel controls. Unless you have a radio that has steering wheel wires coming out, which then you won't. Pioneers don't, and usually have a 3.5mm jack

Idk anything about this stuff. Are all aftermarket radios the same size outside to outside? Do I need to worry about any brand or model not fitting this new surround piece I’ll be buying?

Most double dins are the same size externally. The only thing you may have to worry about is if you get a screen that is motorized cause depending on how the dashkit fits it may have some issues moving freely

Chances are it could be quite different considering this is a second gen and yours is a first gen. Good luck though.

you will need a metra aswc1 steering wheel control module. or some sort of swc module to get them to work

when you install the new radio were you able to use steering wheel to control the new aftermarket radio. I have ford escape 2010 and I will be installing aftermarket JVC. I was told I cant use the steering wheel to control the radio no more.

you have to purchase a second wiring harness to use the steering wheel controls, without that they will not work.

Lol u can just splice the wires one at a time it's only 12v red constant and illumination, then ground and speakers, have done it a million times, just don't let the pos and neg touch lol

yea so if you dont have any controls that go to the radio then you dont need a module. so you wont loose any cruise control or anything like that

Wow....... I'm trying to do this now.. I ran into a snag! Ignition 12v isn't telling the radio to turn on it stays off.. I read someplace that these dont have a proper way of telling the unit to turn on how did you get around that? My deck is in standby

@@RJTV666 no sorry I caved in and set it to the cluster fuse so the radio is off with the car and I dont have a 10 minute delay it's a little janky but it works lol

@@justinpike7537 i used the cluster fuse works great. only problem when car is off so is the radio.. theres no stock 5 minute delay or when door is open. if you need more info tomorrow during the day ill get you the fuse number i use

I really prefer the black faceplate. And for the faceplate above the new one, the one for the air vents, I took that out and sprayed it to match the black I have now with a clear coap plastic pair t protection spray, just to look better because it would have looked bad with the gold and black together. It's a really weird plasticky light gold color with a nice place faceplate for the new radio system so yeah I HAD to paint it to match. Including some other goldfish pieces of plastic in the car. I did multiple coats till satisfied the a protective coating just like the air vent piece above the new radio faceplate so pretty much some other ugly goldfish colors were painted to match the radio and all that. I wish I could post a photo of everything here. It actually looks really nice and not some ghetto rigged home made job lol
