I like your video but that braided cable that you identified as anti-theft is the chassis ground. It should not be clipped nor left disconnected. You could get lucky and have no problems but if you're picking up noise or having any odd electrical problems related to that radio the first thing you should do is reconnect the chassis ground. If it was anti-theft it would be hardened steel. Why would Ford waste money on a heavy braided cable just for the heck of it? You need it there.

But why? What purpose does it serve

The replacement radio came in, and I was able to pull the old one and replace it. The connections at the back on the bottom were a little tough to get to. A couple more inches of slack in the wiring harness would have been great! I guess Ford wanted to save the extra 3 cents that extra bit of wire would have cost on each vehicle. But the directions worked well - thanks, Ed!

Some weirdo installed a Pioneer multi-cd system in my 2010 escape, under the passenger seat, and connected by wire behind the radio. So watching this, I think I can take it all apart now, thank you!

My lights in that area started flickering so I figured it was just a loose connection. Once I saw that huge metal casing I gave up, but thanks for the info! It was very helpful to see!

My 2010 Mazda Tribute has identical layout for center dash radio,CD, and climate controls. The other day for zero reason, the AUX connector fell into the dash. I had an idea how to get it reconnected and affixed better and it was similar to your initial access with screwdriver. Now I should be able to actually do this with confidence knowing what is behind there. Thx.

As soon as I realized that cable WASNT a ground wire for the radio I flipped out. I've been dancing around that wire for days!

It definitely is a ground, not primary but still really important to reattach.

mine I can not control the cd or radio from the front panel , it does not display anything. volume and channels I can change from the steering wheel botons, and a fuse keep blowing up. any guess? which part may be? thanks for the video
@briar61323 жыл бұрын
Mine has the same problem, fuses blow because of a short somewhere along the wiring, so I’m going to try to see where the loose wiring is in mine, but I’d assume it’s stray wires touching where they shouldn’t

The CD player on my Escape is failing. Your video let me remove the radio enough to get the right part number. A replacement is on the way. Bonus - I get to buy a set of ratcheting wrenches to remove that ground strap on the side. I've been putting them off because I didn't really have a need for any - til now. Lastly, I used a thumb wheel ratchet instead of a regular ratchet handle to remove the screws holding the radio in place. They worked well in the limited space.
