Yeah. I'm watching this season (I didn't start watching GSL until 2012 (I think), and with Artosis leaving GSL, I wanted to see where it began. Fruitdealer was the only zerg back at that time who had any understanding of the how race worked.

It's so unfortunate how sc2 is simply getting better at gameplay, strategies, and action.. but the player base is lowering. But sc2 as a game is just getting better. This match just looks like an average silver league game. But still an awesome moment in history

Kinda does. Low unit counts, Zerg rushing hive lol. Looking back, Terrans didn't understand how good hellions could be at threatening Zerg. Zerg underestimated creep. But people forget how wol was. You had to research siege mode. Queens were worse. Reapers weren't as good at scouting and required tech lab. Hope torture should have done a slow push across the map. Instead he just ran all his marines away from his tanks, making it easier for Zerg to deal with his armies 1 at a time. Zerg just easily cleaned up his marines, then cleaned up the tanks.

Larry Byerly As terran yes, as zerg no. Lets say you used a modern ZvT build on delta quadrant back then. You try to spread creep to your 3rd? wait your 3rd is in another main base. Try to defend early with queens? not possible with 3 range instead of 5. Maybe a roach push? gl with 3 range roach instead of 4. Overlords slower, fungal weaker and probably a bunch of other things I cant remember. Oh and terran's had a million nerfs since then. Modern terrans would own everyone if they went back in time, but Fruitdealer did really good with what he had to work with.

Larry Byerly There are some glaring mistakes, like leaving all the sige tanks in the middle of the map unprotected, sacraficing 3 mutas for 1 medivac (ridicules), no early harrass what so ever. I think that indeed people are much better at the game nowadays, but that's understandable

@@richardhegymegi1427 I highly doubt a gold player would have a chance vs these players. People in gold usually have arround 100ish APM,lack proper game knowedge to play reactively ,but rather stick to pre planed builds and often just hope they get more stuff than the oponent. Meanwhile these guys: 1)have arround 200-300ish APM and can micro and 2+ locations while keeping up their eco going. 2)Have good overall game sense and have reactionary playstyles,meaning they tweak their builds on the fly based on what they scout. 3)Given the meta and balance when this was played ,the zerg player actually had a pretty standart solid build,the terran build was a little more cutesy,but rushing for Thors use to be kinda imba in early WoL days(there was a time they did 2x60 dmg instead of 2x45).So just because these builds may seem bad to any sc2 meta of the last couple of years,back than they were pretty good. Dont get me wrong,the evolution of skill from than is immense,even the worst GSL player you could find today has notably higher APM and better game sense(which is like duuuh,the game has been out for almost a decade,when this 2010 GSL was happening half the pro players were still just transitioning from broodwar,different game,different engine,different micro mechanics). But still,there are no random people in the GSL,not even back than,these guys can run circles arround any gold players.

A lot has to do with build orders. Players like us follow builds that have been perfected over years, along with mechanics. This was the start of sc2, and not much was known.
