Hi Kevin! Overall, a nice review. Some pointers tho... I graduated from Highschool in 1983 in Germany and I do not feel like a highshooler that's trying to show off. I have owned BMW's and Mercedes there as well, before I came to NYC in 1992. I am used to driving fast, although the streets and roads are not built for speed in the US. Anyway, I own a 07 IS 250, and, of course, the IS 350 has 100 more horses (but is heavier, so needs to compensate for it as well) and I find that car to be a pretty nifty, nimble car. If you think the power feature (ECT Power) is "doing it's own thing", you do not know how to drive the car. If you think that keeping it in normal is "as good as the paddles (Sports Mode) and ECT Power", than you really do not understand the car, or don't know how to drive that way. This is not meant as an attack, but I drive it daily and I am a fast driver and I only drive with the ECT Power on, because without it's sluggish... notably sluggish! If I want to have a fast response, which I usually do when I am approaching the highway and am on the highway, I drive ONLY in Sport Mode using the paddle shifters (hands on the wheel). It makes a huge difference in response, that there is no way that you couldn't feel a huge difference in drive performance and speed compared to "normal" setting. So, although I liked your review, but maybe there was some peer pressure, dissing the speed and responsiveness of the IS 250, because everybody on KZbin is doing the same. Lastly, despite my critique about the speed and driving review, I am subbing! :)

For my 250 i just. bought the front Vland 3 beam LED headlights. And the Spec D tail lights and just blacked out the stock wheels. Thats it. And im gonna do a couple more things but nothing wild. @@jaylyanphillips8324 enjoy the 250 while u have it. Treat it well. And it will do the same. The paddle shifters act as limiters. Adjusting to third gear for instance will only let you get up to third gear and the car will shift when it feels to up until it hits third. You can start off in first gear and shift up or downwards when you feel to. All in all it’s useful for when you need to overtake

When I first got the car it would do the lumpy idle every now and then but after a while of my driving style and good quality premium gas it doesn't do it anymore. I also use upper engine cleaner every now and then. It doesn't have amazing performance but it is only the 250. If you want power you need to go for the 350. It is overall a very satisfying car to own because every aspect of it just works. The sound system is simple and easy to use which I love and it sounds fantastic. @@beniaminsg Make sure u get it serviced. Change all the spark plugs, filters etc. Get the throttle body thoroughly cleaned out and once it's warmed up take it for a good hard drive on the freeway and get the revs up. @@beniaminsg The fuel where I live is called 95 and 98 for premium but I usually put the highest rated fuel in mine. The spark plugs being worn out usually won't trigger an engine light. They just start working less well and the engine will feel sluggish and have running issues. Yes use the Lucas one they make great products. The rough running at idle in drive may be a sign of carbon build up so u need to do what I said initially and burn it off. These cars have aged incredibly well. I wanted one of these for a long time, but ended up buying a 3rd gen 2017 IS200t F-Sport three years ago, partly cause of the newer tech & replaced it a year & a half ago with a 2016 GS350 F-Sport which has been amazing so far & planning on keeping it for a very long time. I still kind of want a 2nd gen IS every time I see one, but mainly bought & better off with the GS for it's extra interior space (I'm over 6 feet). The turbo 4 was fine in my IS & was smooth, quiet & powerful enough, but am glad to be back with a NA V6 as it's much smoother & sounds a lot better.

I own the IS350 AWD second generation model, much better straight line acceleration, but that's about it. I agree with your detailed comments on the IS250. My generation of car fits as more of a cruiser. Paddle shifters are more so gear limiters, I usually do not use them and leave the car in D. I would get the third generation IS if I could go back in time. From what I read and experienced on ClubLexus forums, the 3rd generation is stiffer and tuned better for cornering out of the factory. Some owners that had both second generation and third generation claim the stock third generation still outperforms a second generation IS even with suspension mods. I'm about to get stiffer shocks on my car as my right rear one is beginning to go, but acceleration out of corners when my shocks were okay was not as confidence inspiring. Got it for cheap at 112k with the condition it was in. Now that it's approaching 120k, just the maintenance I did along with a shop to help make it drive better: new spark plugs, oil change, transmission fluid change, new tires, new front and right cv axle, differential fluid for front and rear differential change, new PCV valve, new LCA bushings (direct swap from ISF/GSF, helps with getting over previous steering vagueness), new engine mounts (huge improvement), front and rear brake pads changed. My next car, hopefully in two years, will be newer and a lot lower in mileage so I won't have to deal with the likely over 100k mile car maintenance. I am happy however, this is my first Lexus and the driving owns my previous Solara.

Yes the 350has 100 more kw's but theres nothing at all wrong with the 250. The chassis is taught & precise & if you want explore more...upgrade the tires & brakes & if ur still not happy get a 350. But for my money the is250 is King

I love mine. 2006 IS250 w/245k on the ODO. My transmission finally malfunctioned last week due to a bad shifter solenoid. I decided to just replace the tranny all together because the engine is still strong as ever. No leaks, no noise, etc. I am shooting for 300k miles! Lol! Then I’ll buy another one.

Make no mistake, this is not a slow car by any means. Using AWD in unison with the sport mode, it launches, and excelerates plenty quickly. Its not powerful like the is350, but it gets better gas mileage, and the car is cheaper to insure.

The reason why the used IS 250 cars are so cheap is because of carbon buildup on the intake valves. Normally Lexus takes the entire engine apart to remove the carbon from the valves, and to replace anything that the pieces of breaking-off chunks of carbon might have damaged, (sometimes requiring the replacement of pistons, or in some cases the entire engine block). This process usually cost around $4,000. However, if your car is not burning through a lot of oil, then all you need to do is get rid of that carbon and you can use 2 or 3 cans of 'CRC intake valve and turbo cleaner' to clean away the carbon. You spray short squirts of it into your car's brake booster vacuum line while the car is running at 2,000 rpm, until the can is empty (these steps are all listed on the can itself). It is supposed to remove most of the carbon from the intake valves and is good for about 50,000 miles until you have to do it all over again.

I have a 2012 is250 with only 100,000 miles and I must say it runs and drives so freaking smooth and rides surprsingly well despite being a sport sedan the only gripe is the engine with carbon buildup issues but its not a big issue I can go for a trip to the mechanic to flush the carbon out if theres a big issue but I havent had that issue cause I usually drive the car pretty quick and take care of regular oil changes.
@MeynMotorGroup4 жыл бұрын
Yea just the carbon build up, slight little maintenance required there but for the most part like you said great little car

I owned 2 of these cars before a 2008 lexus is250 Glacier Frost Mica and a 2011 is250 Starfire Pearl White, both were great cars the only issue I had with both of them is due to the engine combustion issue they would shake when the car is in idle at times but other then that those cars were pretty solid. Now I own a 2016 Lexus is350 F sport and a 2010 Infiniti G37 coupe and those are pretty solid vehicles as well havent had any problems so far thankfully besides the usual oil changes

I love my Lexus! I drove my 2008 IS250 for Uber and Lyft for one month. I felt like it was blasphemy to drive such a nice car for rideshare. So...I bought a slow 2018 Toyota Yaris for my rideshare gig. I kept my IS250 and I think it's pretty luxurious. Faster and far far more luxurious than the small Yaris that's for sure! I love the wooden grain touches that scream luxury! Meanwhile, my Uber Yaris is all plastic and cheap inside.

@sportzpickz4 жыл бұрын
Great review. Still looks good and is the most refined vehicle in it's class. Due to the carbon buildup issue it's probably used best as a highway cruiser where it will consistently reach an operating temperature and speed that will nullify the carbon issue. If motorway commuting is not an option an Italian tune up once in a while will keep that silky smooth v6 purring
@hayksamvelyan4 жыл бұрын
We leased this model from 2008-2011 and I agree with most of your remarks. Tight interior and lack of power is what I remember the most. My head was maybe an inch or two away from the roof with the driver seat on its lowest setting and I'm 5'10". Back seat is really tight. Regarding the Sport mode on the transmission, it works like a gear limiter not a manual selector so that's why it had a "mind of its own". For example, if it's in 4, the transmission will continue automatically shifting but will not go above 4th gear, if you're in 3, it will not go above 3rd gear, and so on. There is a display on the instrument cluster that shows what gear the transmission is currently in and it will display dots for the gears it has access to. One of my other gripes with it was the jacked up ride height for the AWD and the narrow wheels in a square setup made the rear end look funny. I preferred the IS350 or the even standard IS250 for their lower ride height and staggered wheels. Regarding the soft suspension, it's probably riding on original struts and they're worn out at this point with 188k. I remember the car was pretty stiff and most owners complained that it didn't feel like a traditional Lexus sedan.
@MeynMotorGroup4 жыл бұрын
Great points my friend all very accurate. Thanks again for stopping by and watching!
@TJ-id6ee3 жыл бұрын
Agree with your comment on the struts. I have a 2011 Is 250 RW drive with staggered wheels and just over 100k miles. The suspension was stiff up until one of my struts broke. I had them all replaced at Les Schwab and that was a huge mistake. I tried to save money by not having them use Lexus oem struts. Well now it feels like a boat lol! Think I'm going to go back to Lexus struts.

i own one of these , 06 IS220d diesel 6 speed manual rwd , 4 cyl turbo with 180 hp , i believe you can get manual transmission on those 250 awd but here in portugal you only see the diesels, mine has 200k miles aswell but its not as nice as this one cosmeticly . Mine has the navigation system wich gives you a nice touchscreen plus Mark Levison is standard with the navigation package and yes it sounds amazing . This was the cheapest IS in the country and i got it cuz i was searching for a same era Corolla hatchback with similiar mileage and they basicly the same price but as Lexus is so unknown here they got this cheap and ofc its a no-brainer . 6 months later and 3k miles put on , no issues at all and no regreting .
