I had one of these, drove it for 12 years without it skipping a beat, I gave it to my brother after I bought a newer car that had better safety, it is going strong. I had a few rattles due to aging rubbers in the window seals, but other than that it has been great!

I purchased one as my first car which was written off only a year after buying it due to a bad hail storm, so I purchased a second. It's now been 6 years and 80,000kms of trouble free ownership. Yes it has a sticky dash when it gets hot and the passenger side mirror no longer adjusts but for a car that has over 230,000kms it drives perfectly, even after the abuse a p plater gives it. I have serviced the car every 7,500kms by myself and have not had to spend money on anything that isn't a consumable. A 10/10 car in my opinion, especially for a first car owner that wants something nice and comfortable.

My family had a Lexus 2009 IS300 RWD from 2010 till 2020 Full option with ML sound system and…… This car was a dream to own Fast Luxury and reliable when we bought this car is was in second grade and we had it till when i was 17. Our car had about 350k kilometer on the dash. After the 300k kilometer mark the issues start to rise like transmission cooling problem , lights and ECU engine over heating and…… but if my father didn’t just said this is a Toyota and would have actually taken care of that car I think we would have it till now. If you are planning to buy this car go for it but be careful the rear seat space is really small if your are taller than 175 you are going to get sick sitting in the rear seats. It was so good that I’m looking for a convertible for myself

I've been driving a 2011 model, now at 256k km. Issues experienced: the automatic transmission seal started leaking at 180k km's, then gave in at 250k km's - which is unusual, which is why it wasn't picked up by the dealership. The only other problem I ever had was a failing boot mechanism at 240k km. I did renew the front shocks at 240k km due to the many, many potholes in South Africa. Parts can be expensive but are generally of a much higher quality than aftermarket alternatives. My model shows way less wear and tear than the one in the video, almost like new. No sticky dashboard (get a later model), no scratches on knobs, the leather is in good shape. An absolute pleasure to drive: smooth, silent, powerful, sporty yet comfortable, great sound system. Leg room is too little for passengers in the back. Average fuel consumption: 8.4ltrs/100km. I highly recommend this car: by far the best value for money available on the market. I just got offered more than what I paid for it 125k km earlier, but I'm hesitant to let go of it.

As a previous owner of this I can clearly say that it is a PHENOMENAL CAR (it was my first car after all). I did always say it could've done with more power and torque for the 2.5 V6 because of all that weight it was carrying around, I still do miss mine but I'm glad I experienced one, and I agree that the Auto was better because mine was also Manual and I could tell that it wasn't communicating as well as the Auto I once tested out. In summary it's a great car to buy whether it's your 1st or 2nd because it will always work when you need it.

My neighbours bought one of these brand new & it was meticulously looked after. They had just retired & wanted a decent sedan without buying a Falcon or a Commodore. Nothing ever went wrong with it. It was pretty common for retirees to buy them. These days retirees buy those crappy Chinese MG's. The lexus is so reliable & if you are in the market to buy a reliable sedan, look no further.

I was gutted by mine. I was so unlucky when i got my used one. I got a super rare problem with the gearbox that revealed itself after my car went limp mode and refused to change to gears 3 and 4. I spent so much time and money trying to find the problem and finally i got a mechanic who was capable enough to diagnose the problem. Even though the vehicle was in spot on when i had bought it the previous owner had not moved the car at all for years. The gearbox fluid became sticky and dried and that caused "chunks" to go in several places that basically destroyed the gearbox. Even a fluid flush and exchange was not enough to fix the problem. At the end of it all it required a completely new gear box but the mechanic who diagnosed it advised against it as the sticky gear box bits could be a sign of a similar problem with other fluids in the vehicle. After the whole ordeal i had to accept that i had literally lost a good 6K GBP down the drainer and part exchanged the vehicle for just 500 BPB. Yes, i could have taken away all the additions and sold them separately (like the completely new tires) to get myself more money and reduce the loss but by that time i was so starved for a car to go in and out of work plus the burnout of the whole ordeal that i simply decided to fully cut ties and start anew.

sticky dash was 2005 -2008 problem for this gen. If looking for one of these, buy the 2009 update model or try and find one that had the dash and door cards replaced under a lexus customer satisfaction program. This was not a recall, but a few owners took advantage of it. I bought one where all these were replaced circa 2014, they look brand new and were sourced from the 2009 upgrade model I believe.

In the US, the dashboard and door panels had a recall over the material degrading. I do like the simple layout of the infotainment system, and they're pretty comfortable for long trips. A friend of mine has a 2009 model and we've done a LOT to it from chassis bracing, to big brake kit, to coilovers, and more. I'm the shortest friend he has and I fit comfortably in the back. The font: I feel like I'm not sinking into the seats so I feel like I'm too high up. We had an interesting setup with him in that and me in a 2006 S60 T5. We nearly had the same kit minus the satnav on my car, but his came with almost all the options (no front parking sensors). If I were to do it again, I'd have probably gotten a GS430 or GS350. Shockingly he got better mileage than me all the time. My S60 would average about 25mpg(9.5l/100km), his IS350 always averages about 29mpg(8.5l/100km). Talking about the amp getting fried, that happened to his one day, but he ordered one for an IS200d that was an exact match. Overall, it's an awesome car.

I owned 2008 IS300 for 4 years. The car drives and feels fantastic but in my case had many issues. - Around 70km/h there was loud noise from rear differential. And had to change completely (used one). - AC and compressor is failed. Had to change radiator and compressor. - Steering wheel making some noise. Fixed by someone who had good experience in this kind of issues. Otherwise, costly too. - Back passenger door cover is literally melted and break off by nail very easily. Unbelievable. - Passenger airbag light issue. Sometimes goes off but the issue is there. - High consumption. In my country 92 petrol is very poor quality. I had to use 95. And my mixed consumption (mainly city) was 13.5L/100km. - The color was pearl white. And very hard to get parts perfectly painted with no difference to other parts. If these are not common problems then good used car to drive. Do not buy a car which is not driven and maintained well enough. Parts are very expensive.

Bought a 2007 model with 175000kms in 2020 for $8700 (private market before price explosion). It was one owner in great condition with 100% Lexus service history. The only mechanical failure in its history was the water pump at 146000kms. We've since done another 55000kms and have had to replace the fuel pump at 182000kms ($860), all 4 shocks at 190000kms ($2100), and the alternator at 210000kms ($2450). With these repairs the yearly maintenance is averaging out at $3100 per year, including tyres, with all work done at Lexus. I had the is250 for a few years. Burning oil and weak alternator had to be replaced. My GS350 also had a new alternator at 180k kms. Their older models often came with weaker alternators. I thinks many 2.5 V6's from toyota burns oil if not taken care of, like longer maintenance intervals etc. The 3.5 V6s are much better IMO, similar fuel consumption and much more power. My friend's Toyota Wish had replaced 4 alternators, that is the most extreme example I've ever heard. IS rides better than GS. IS's ride is like a tiger on the ground, very stable strait and corners, gear box is very smooth and responsive. The overall feel of the IS is very close to 2021 Toyota Corolla ZR. GS on the other hand is softer, more body roll, feels heavier. Long journey GS will be more comfortable, and more than enough HP when overtaking. Both are excellent cars. A few months before I sold my GS a guy rear-ended it. His front bumper was completely broken and the radiator was twisted. My GS? just a tiny scratch no bigger than half of my fingernail. Idk why everyone cries about leg room, as a guy you won't be sitting with your legs closed anyways, it's not comfortable. I'm 6'2 and have enough space in the back. It's a sports sedan, it doesn't have to be luxurious or super comfy, want comfort buy a GS or LS Also why do you need interior light at day 😆

I was somewhat disappointed to see such a rough example of the IS250 in the review. I have owned the convertible variant (IS250c) for the past 6 months and it is definitely the best hard-top all rounder. Currently it’s at 102k kms. Super smooth engine, gearbox and roof mechanism. Luckily I have the top-of-the-range 2009 Sports Luxury which has all the toys including adaptive cruise, ML sound system and everything auto. One issue which has been bothering me is the Excessive Sulfur odour on accelration. It was addressed in a Lexus bulletin in 2006 however, I am not sure how to resolve the issue. Most likely related to exhaust system and cats.

I'd like to get one of these for my daughter, but they are EXPENSIVE!! I have an IS350 Sports Luxury sedan (2012), My daughter has been driving for a couple of years and has my old Honda Accord, I think the IS250C is a beauty. On the sulfur smell on hard acceleration bursts, I have that too. I got my mechanic to check it out on his computer and everything was showing fine.

One of my biggest regrets was not buying a Lexus IS350 over a decade ago when I purchased my then new 2008 Acura TSX. Everyone on Car And Driver and Motor Trend was gushing over the TSX while simultaneously shitting on the IS and talking about how it WASN’T a BMW 3 Series. After 8 years of owning the underpowered and high strung TSX, I learned a valuable lesson on listening to automotive reviewers. Go out a drive these cars yourself. The IS has proven to be CLEARLY the best car in its class at the time and it’s not even close.

Bro, I sold my 09 tsx for a 14 is350. I will always love my TSX as it will go down as one of my favorite cars I ever owned because it was reliable and decent on gas, but the is350 is a different animal man. If you can find yourself a used is350, go for it.

There is a recall for the sticky dash. I live in Texas, didn't buy it new. Was on the wait list for two ish years (I knew it would take time), but eventually they replaced the entire plastic interior for free and it feels like a new car inside!

I have a 2012 IS350 Sports Luxury in red (vermillion) with beige leather interior and it looks way more premium inside (and out) than contemporary MB's, Audi's and BMW's of the time IMO. The car in this video had the black interior , after market shifter and was in average condition, my car is mint (no sticky dash), has the upgraded front bumper and headlights with integrated LED's. It gets compliments where-ever I go as it lives in my garage (I work from home) and it's regulalrly detailed. It's really a beautiful design, especially with the staggered 18-inch wheels. My friends describe my car as a daily driven show car.

You're dead right about the manual box. This is one of those cars that you get genuinely excited when you learn that they actually made it in a manual. But then you actually drive it and you not only wish they hadn't bothered, but that you'd never driven it. Such a disappointment.

I had an 2006 is350 with 50,000kms on the clock about 8 years ago. It was a great but also terrible car. The engine, transmission and how it handled was really great. The dash was a huge disappointment, you couldn't even clean it because it was a sticky mess. Because the ride was so quiet you could hear every rattle and squeak in the interior....and there was many of these! Also one of the speakers in the drivers door shorted out which made quite a bit of smoke come out through the top of the door card.

A millenial I know bought a 250 XS I think it was called. Manual 6 cyl anyway, can’t recall the year of birth. He and his dad couldn’t believe how hard it was to get moving from a standstill. Couldn’t engage the clutch and accelerate because it would stall, so a big rev then engage the clutch was the only way to get around it. Lack of tourque? Yet a 149 Holden motor would roll away from the lights with the clutch engaged

Amazing review guys. I've had an 08 IS 250 for almost 3 years now. I'm amazed at how spot on you were with the details. I've had one of my headlights go off mid drive several times, also lost my amplifier due to the water leakage, and had the oil leak from the gasket. Although I've noticed the sticky dash, it never bothered me as much. The one thing I've never heard anyone else say is that it doesn't handle potholes very well. However if your roads are perfect, chances are you'll love this car. Sometimes my eyes almost tear up looking at how beautiful it is and I ask myself: Is this really mine? 🥲

You missed the one main, and huge, issue - the earlier models of IS250 (not 350) had massive carbon buildup problems. In 2017, Lexus rebuild my 07 engine at 130k, and in 2018 at 140k, the transmission grenaded.

I bought one last October at 312k kilometers, the interior has been kept a lot better than this, the the front seats are in great conditions, a bit better than these id say, and there are some small chips on the door handles plastic and on the dash around the infotainment system but no melting and shine, the mechanical side its been well maintained, the headlights and taillights have been swapped out for the vland ones and theyre nice, overall my experience with the car has been nothing but good, they do use a lot of fuel, just like mentioned on this video about a bit over 13 liters per 100km, but if you drive it normally with the occasional step on the gas in town, and the weather outside is about 15-20C which is not cold but not hot either, my fuel consumption has dropped to less than 12 liters per 100km, i should add i live in europe and i always use 95 octane with additives (the more expensive 95 fuel) or 100 octane

few notes: sticky dashboards gone by 2009 or if 2008 and earlier hopefully someone replaced the dash (and door cards)... 3.5L only comes in Auto... 2.5L comes in auto or manual... 3.5L is the one, it gets nearly the same fuel consumption and it's much quicker...

The 6 speed is250 is not a good buy. Get the 350 or at worst, the automatic 250. The manual trans is pulled right out of the Tacoma and gearing is horrendous for a V6 sedan The dual mass flywheel causes really bad rev hang. You have to brake between downshifts.... 4grfse has carbon buildup and piston ring issues The dash and door panels melt no matter what you do. Even if you spend money on new ones and clean them + use a sunshade and tint your windows they will inevitably melt again. It's a finicky car for Toyota standards. If you really want a manual, get an altezza/is300 or a Honda

As much as the 2nd IS looks good I'm more tempted by the Toyota Crown and Possibly the even the Mitsubishi Dignity/Proudia or Nissan President. The dash seems like a massive safety issue if they start reflecting glare back at you when they get shiny. Hullsy made me laugh with the millennial anti theft device line as it was priceless. Also massive congrats guys on hitting the 200k subscribers mark🎉. Now hopefully you'll hit the 300k mark before the end of the year. Brilliant video guys and as per usual keep up the good work and look forward to next week's videos 👍.
