2010 Nissan Maxima Review

The 2010 Maxima 3.5 SV is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 producing 290 horsepower (HP).
Nissan bills the Maxima as "The Four-Door Sports Car," although it is only offered with a Xitronic CVT (continuously variable) transmission.

@ckmacboy To be more precise, the manual mode uses a predetermined gear ratio with the CVT to give it the feel of a car with a manual transmission. In essence, it's using 6 virtual gears instead of the infinite range of a CVT.

@MedicAlv1 For 2010. Nissan only recommends 93 octane. However for max performance 93 is need. Also for 2009 Nissan required 93 for the Maxima and other models with the 3.5L engine. When I get mine I will only use 93 because at the end of the day no matter what Nissan says, the Maxima is still a high performance car (4-Door Sports Car, 4DSC)

The 2010 Nissan Maxima is a good looking car. Interior is simple yet rich. There's a luxury feel to it. Near perfect. Too bad Nissan screwed up on the steering wheel. Overall highly recommended.

the metallic slate is a very nice color, i was a prospect for one but it ended up too expensive after taxes, but that color looks very good, almost looks 2 tone from afar

@TerryCPiano YW! Nissan recommends premium fuel for the Maxima. Less octane often = less performance, but as always, YMMV. I ran premium in the test car ... haven't been in the 2009.

@mpgomatic Thank you, now knowing that it can run on regular with no big lose. I'm deciding between getting the 2010 Nissan Maxima or the 2007 Lexus ES 350 in around 2 years. Any suggestion would be great :) thanks!

Thanks for the review, I was wondering what type of fuel is required or recommended for the Maxima. And if it's the premium unleaded gasoline, will I be able to run on regular? I heard you can use the regular for premium required cars like the Lexus ES 350 and more but just losing a bit of performance (HP). But other then that, are there any other things that will affect the car? Thanks and I'm really looking forward to getting this car in 2012 as a used vehicle.

Good to know they actually reinforced the back end to the car. I hit one once, (relatively low speed because of my braking) needless to say it folded up like a paper bag while my car was largely undamaged. The older Maxima's were lighter because there was not much to the framing and body hence to the paper bag remark.

@AlphaJohnson47 Any color other than dark colors is always recommended if viewing surface scratches bother you. A color will scratch unless it has several coats of clear in which most manufacterers will not do in order to kind the cost down. You are actually welcome to have this done if you know a good paint shop in your area. I hope this helps.

@AlphaJohnson47 Ouch ... Here's wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! Black cars are tough to keep clean. I've sworn them off numerous times and have been partial to white cars for some time now ... they don't get as hot in the summer and tend to be easier to touch up. Color choice is so subjective ... Check the interior colors first ... they often dictate the exterior color.

@zeal117 You're right about the older Maximas being light in the rear end. During winter I gotta throw 2 bags of salt in the trunk cause if I turn too hard when its snowy out around and around I go.

love maximas own a maxima a 99 maxima.. why is it that the 2004-5 model of the maxima with less hp is faster than the 2011 290 hp maxima?>

The best car I've ever had, a 2001 Nissan Maxima, and it's clearly on its last legs. I'm going to miss it dearly as it still can easily outstrip anyone in some shitty Ford Taurus trying to act tough, as they often do around here. I'll likely look into a new Maxima next, but I'm not sure which model. 2010 models are expensive as hell, as Nissans usually are, (you definitely get what you pay for) but I'll always miss my first Maxima.

@TerryCPiano i know from my experience premium is usualy only required on high compression cars, but atleast with my lincoln, i ran regular even though it said premium required, with no noticable difference in fuel economy or performance.

@xvrhernandez349 yeah i know, for some reason i was looking at the altima which has 270. Not bad for a 3.5 liter, but I wonder how it compares to chrysler 3.6 v6 which makes 290 also. I think the chrsyler is more fuel efficient

I have a 2010 Nissan maxima I only get 300 miles out of a full tank doing mostly city driving is anyone else experiencing the same?I don’t exactly remember how many miles I used to get when I first bought the car brand new in 2010 but I thought I was getting at least 350 and 500 miles on the highway

In my opinion, the steering wheel of the 2011 Nissan Maxima has sharp lines on it. Its design (shape) doesn't match the fullness of the interior drawing. Its material is also hard plastic making it look and feel cheap. I myself have came to the conclusion some time ago that neither a three point steering wheel nor a fuller four point steering wheel is the idea behind interior design. Both circular steering wheels may be obsolete replaced by a two point handle. But thats my opinion. =)

@AlphaJohnson47 I have the 2010 in super black myself. While it's a bitch to keep clean (especially now with the salted roads), I can't think of a better color for it. I had a 2000 Max SE in "Icelandic Pearl" and it was sweet as well, and when pollen gathered, it only tinted the white pearl rather than looking dirty like it does on black. So I guess I'm saying if you don't want black again, try pearl white or whatever Nissan calls it. LOVE this car. Too nice in some ways.

they should put some of these features in a sentra. they make the sentra like total shit which is not. like i understand maxima should have the gps system but the sentra deserves some of those other interior features the maxima have. LIKE WAKE UP u guys get more sales on sentra and people would be sentra over maxima cuz its cheaper. dont you guys get business -_- its a bigger net profit for you

I had a 1990 maxima proved extra great then a1997 maxima 300,000 miles ok but very shaky still runs wish nissan can reward me 5,000 g for this masons for its show room now I have 2008 maxima but the 2.5 2014 altima is a star I own it now I was stunned at the altima performance well yes by me it vroms good
