You would eventually need to do shocks front:rear and he also did an amazing video step by step. I did it myself and it costed me $350 parts. Brakes and rotors I did myself easy. I used Mobil1 synthetic oil. I buy 2x 5qt from Walmart (cheapest) . And now just needing to change headlight ballast ( require removing bumper). Other than that owning it for 4 yrs, car been solid. You can flip back seat, pull front seat forward and you be amaze what you can fit in your suv! After watching this video, I must say you did an excellent job of showing how this job was done in order to replace the 6 spark plugs. The three up front was not bad but the inside three was something which defied logic. Those engineers who designed this should be the ones to do the replacement of those spark plugs. They should be shot! Can you imagine that you have to dismantle half of the engine just to get to the spark plugs? I doubt very much that any dealership at Lexus or any mechanic will be honest enough to go to this extent for the three in the back. I think they will just say they did the complete job and will charge you for it. I feel sad because those engineers didn't bother to ask themselves this - How am I going to do the maintenance afterward? If it is too complicated or too difficult to perform, most probably it will not get done!
@CarolinaCowboys4 жыл бұрын
Thank you - Honestly looking back, it doesn't seem that daunting. I think I was more nervous not knowing what to expect not having done it before. I still think Toyota/Lexus are easier to work on than GM.

Best comment of all! You are very right vince. I own a 1998 honda accord and it takes 10 mins max to change all six. I was also deeply seddended and disappointed by this! I expected more from Lexus. I hear that there might be another method thats easier that requires removing the wiper blades to replace the back 3 plugs but c'mon really?? Removing the wiper blades... they really messed up the spark plug placement on this. It still looks bad for the newer models 2016 and up and i want to buy a 2018 rx 350 f sport.

This video is terrific! Thank you so much! Very detailed! One question I do have is regarding the Ignition Coil that you'd put in your video description. They are about 50% less than the "lexus" branded ones (which I'm assuming are just repurposed Denso's, as provided in your link). But how were you able to confirm that this is indeed the right part? I am about to tackle this job, and want to make sure I get the right coils, without having to pay dealer markup, but still using OEM parts.

Yes Toyota uses Denso for alot of things. If you have the same make and model as me then it's the right part. If you need to research it, the best way is through the service manual which can be found online.

Nice production and thanks for this great bit of entertainment! As a 75 yo, I'm doubting my ability of mind and body to tackle this job nowadays -- now only do oil/filter changes. I'll most likely have a local master mechanic to do this and any 'major' stuff. One thing does come to mind though -- methinks I'd attempt to start the car before reinstalling the metal framework at the windshield -- wouldn't it then be so much easier troubleshooting any problems that arise from forgetfulness or faulty parts?? Btw, do you run the recommended Premium or just Regular fuel?
@CarolinaCowboys2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! On the 2010 it requires premium fuel but the newer models don't. This is because the newer engines have anti-knock sensors and can accommodate the lower octane fuels. Anyway, yes I could have tested things out but then this KZbin video wouldn't have been as entertaining right? There's another one I did recently on an LG dryer that didn't turn out as well!
@wayditay92882 жыл бұрын
@@CarolinaCowboys Just curious about your own fuel experience on this year of RX -- thanks for your input. Our octane for Regular fuel here in Canada is 87 (most with 10% ethanol). I've been _mostly_ running Reg for years now with seemingly no ill affects due to knocking and very little difference in performance and mileage from using Premium (octane 91). In fact when I originally checked with the Lexus dealer service manager he said it was ok and that the engine has the ability to adapt. After rereading the owner's manual, it indicates the same. Although not so with the smaller 450H engine: it _requires_ hi-test Premium (which to me rather negates the cost savings that a hybrid is supposed to bring).
@CarolinaCowboys2 жыл бұрын
@@wayditay9288 The 2010-2015 specifically says it requires premium fuel so I've always just fed it premium ever since I bought it. It also says it on the inside gas cap. However, starting with 2016 they changed the engine design and regular unleaded works fine. I haven't noticed any issues running regular in the new engines, but I was told by a lot of people if the manufacturer requires premium then you need to do it, but I don't know what happens if you don't 🙂

Nice, I do have a few questions. First, why did you replace the coils? Second, if it was a bit of a strain to get the spark plugs out, is there a reason you wouldn't use a compound like anti-seize on the threads so you or the next gut wouldn't experience the same situation? Thanks for the Video.
@CarolinaCowboys4 жыл бұрын
I've read mixed opinions about using anti-seize on spark plugs. Generally it's for things that are tight and spark plugs aren't tight. Coil packs are only designed to last 100K miles and then they will randomly start failing. It's best to replace them all at once so you don't have to take everything apart again. Hope this helps!
@cgmf-d6t4 жыл бұрын
@@CarolinaCowboys antisieze is a safety precaution incase it gets stuck from possible corrosion. The last thing you want is to ruin the threads on the head and/or break the spark plug. Timecerts would be needed to fix it and instead of a straightforward spark plug replacement, it would just turn into a nightmare job.

The back plugs are a pain. Especially in older cars with this engine because everything is brittle and the connectors snap. I had a wire break on the camshaft sensor above the far right plug in the back but it was still barely connected so once I buttoned it all back up I got cam sensor low voltage check engine light. Had to take it all apart again to get back in and fix the wiring what a chore it ended up being
@CarolinaCowboys Жыл бұрын
Yeah, all those clips are brittle, I probably broke 3 or 4 of them, but the cables stay on fine.

Great video my man. but trust me, you need some air tools. Get a nice 50+ gallon tank and Ingersoll Rand ratchet and impact wrench to start, and you'll wonder why you didn't get them after your first repair job. NOTE: NEVER use air tools on spark plugs!!!

Are the ignition coils still good? I am real Leary about ordering online due to all the counterfeit parts out there. Your price on Amazon seemed really low as compared to Autozone or Advanced auto part prices. I see they are Amazon sold and Amazon shipped so makes me feel a little better but what say you?

They've been solid. When it comes to important parts like that I only like to buy OEM and the links I put in the description usually go to Lexus dealerships selling parts at a discount.

Any idea what a Lexus dealer or other mechanic will charge to replace the spark plugs on my lexus 2015 RX350? thanks.

Thanks for the info. The amount is not a surprise but my 2015 RX350 now has 97K miles on it and i was going to keep it for a couple more years, but think i will look around for a UX250h.. i think it is too small but Lexus dealers have a lot of them on their lots these days, at least here in Atlanta area. Some people are saying 120,000 miles or 10 years. Our RX is only at 55k miles but it 10 years old. Worth doing? Or just hold off until 99k?

You should definitely wait. For fluids like oil, gas, and brake fluid that age over time you should take time into account, but electrical and metal components it's all based on usage. The only other consideration in my opinion would be harsh climates would shorten the life.

My 2007 coil died on the interstate. Scanning it it gives p0351 to 6.. what would cause them all to go out at once? What are the chances they all go out at once?
@CarolinaCowboys2 жыл бұрын
Gosh it could be a lot of things but chances are they're not all bad at once. It could be caused by another problem, I would start looking at other items that need maintenance like the mass airflow sensor, O2 sensor, then depending on the miles, you might replace all the plugs and packs if they are due.
