A little over 300k on the clock, started to have problems marking fuel on the dash, car would turn off when marking half a tank not knowing if it's a full tank or empty tank, so i decided to replace the fuel pump, after repair was done no more issues all is good with fuel!

Thanks so much for this. I "broke down" today on the freeway. Gas gauge said I had 2 bars still! When I looked at my error codes on my OBDII, I noticed one possible cause was no gas. I filled up and now it's running fine! So I guess my float got stuck at 2bars. I imagine it's my float valve, not pump, but I'd need to replace that whole thing anyway. I might just try always filling up at 3 bars! ;) Anyway, thx again!

Did you have a full tank when you're working? I wonder if I'd be less spill if I could remove some gas before?

I did this on a truck, took the tank out and cleaned it. The tank doesn't have to be full. I'm going to have to do this on my 2010. When I fill up I take a mileage then I can figure when I'm at 1/4 tank to do this job. No code on mine, just goes from full to empty. Good Luck

Getting ready to do this job on my 2010. Less than a week after using a bottle of Techron high mileage on a fill up, I got a P0171 along with an odd surging at light throttle, then last night I got check hybrid system message and a P3191. Got a used oem pump from the junkyard about 20 minutes ago for $40, I'll probably start saving for a new Delphi FG1173 pump ($303 on RockAuto). I just need to get the car back up asap as I use it to make money. Glad the 3rd gen Prius setup is very similar to the '97-'03 Grand Prix with an access panel inside, very convenient.

Wanted to update this for anyone who may be searching in the future. Swapped out my fuel pump, but problems still persisted (ICE surging on decel, not shutting down when it was supposed to, P0171 was pretty consistent but other codes would show up from time to time like P2196, P0505, P0101, P0455, P0441, P3191 when it wouldn't start back up, and P0A0F). When I got the P2196 I decided to replace the front 02 sensor since this felt like a fueling issue, which is why I replaced my fuel pump. No dice, sometimes it'd run normal, then it would start doing the surging, eventually I'd hear a loud backfire, and not long after that the ICE would die, throwing the Check Hybrid System message and P3191 along with other codes. The issue all along was the evap vapor canister purge solenoid. I guess it was sticking open randomly, which was causing the P0171 since that runs right to the throttle body. When the car would backfire, the hose that runs to the solenoid from the throttle body, and the hose that runs to the PCV valve would both be blown off. Those hoses being detached would cause the car not to start/run, to reconnect them you need to remove the airbox (3 10mm bolts, and the clamp for the hose that goes to the lid is also 10mm), the hoses are right underneath. Stick them back on, reinstall your air box, clear the codes, and your car will run again. Get to a stop asap so you don't run the hybrid battery low, otherwise you might not be able to start the engine. If you keep a 1/4" ratchet, 6-10" 1/4" extension, and a 10mm in the car you can do this on the side of the road if need be. Don't go trying to start it until after you connect those hoses, especially if you used a lot of battery getting to a safe place to stop. You might only get 1 shot to get it running. I paid $104 shipped from Toyota for a new purge solenoid (Vacuum Switching Valve Assembly P/N 2586037020), in the meantime I sprayed carb cleaner into my current one to clean it out, put 12v to it to make sure it works (it does), then sprayed PB Blaster in it and hit it with 12v a dozen more times to try and work it through there. I put 58 miles on it delivering food tonight, and it ran good. Still replacing the solenoid because it can stick again at any time.

Toyota dealers link to Toyota parts USA. Each dealer is unique and might have a sale or discounts. But you have to enter thru each dealers portal and look up the parts to see the price. 1 out of 5 local Tampa dealers had a drive battery for 1 k less. Going directly to parts USA didn't work

Thanks for video I wonder if it was about the same as older cars gas float replacement?. It is. Almost what you paid for used 2nd gen whole engine. !!! Nice job. Glad it worked. "Side note:, I feel I'm paying for a newer car with my two 2nd gen Prius when I buy the parts, but also learning when I fix it, the learning can not be taken away. You help me a lot with your videos. Thanks. 3.5 years ago I paid $22hundred for new modules in hv battery, got me 8 codes or more last month, and car would move but 10 feet and shut off most codes say, replace hv related, I took hv from one car in to the other, fix, no codes, I opened the bad hv and had cylindrical NiMH modules, well, that is how long they will last, this will help those on fence lines to get that kind. Me I will try going back to OEM modules modules or try the new lithium? When available again. I have not decided, just yet. Thanks again.

@Oscar E Welcome to MY2DAYLIFE! The float was something I thought about as well 🤔 I will definitely look into it when I take apart the old one. As far as price I also paid around the same on my 2nd Gen Prius engine. I'm glad you are finding the videos helpful, I appreciate your nice gesture man! It was challenging for me when I had issues with my 3rd gen hybrid battery. I tried to fix it by changing some of the modules but it only bought me some time. Later I found a company called Green Bean battery. I had them replace the hybrid pack and now I have a lifetime warranty with them. So far I only had two replacements, hassle free. They took care of me in a timely manner. If you do buy a replacement battery I would suggest you go for the upgrade version and get the lithium battery. If I ever run out of this so called life time warranty I will definitely go with lithium. Thanks for watching! 👍
