Gil Skillz: My first time to watch this... today is Dec 29th, '18. My wife has a '07 RAV4 Ltd w/ 3-litre six engine. It, like all Toyotas we have owned over the years, has provided exceptional service; this vehicle possibly one of the _best_ owned. That said, all repairs, whether DIY or by professional mechanic, have included genuine OEM Toyota pieces/parts. That, usually, avoids difficulties like missing brake pad clips, etc, etc, etc. Keep that in mind when next you buy. Thanks for your time/effort in making this video. It was helpful/appreciated.

I know I am late, but i enjoyed your video. I am going to help my friend do this. I been working on cars for some time, and watching a video usually helps a lot. Specially if you have never worked on a particular car. Thanks Ricky A.

I use a drill and a wire brush to clean the corrosion. If I don't have a air tool then I use a breaker bar. You are one strong guy.

Great video I like that fact you use the angle where you can see behind the rotors.

I just wanted to make sure how the rotor came off and this video was perfect. If you make anymore videos in the future telling the socket size would be helpful for some to know.

Hi Bob...No brake grease,no cleaning and lubrication on brake caliper bracket sliding pins. How about torque the wheel lug nuts so the new rotors won't warp...think you should mention about pumping the brake peddle a few times before taking of to find out the peddle sink to the floor and can't stop...not trying to slam you,but alot of first time guys might get into trouble...

Hi ab slayer. Trust me, I do not take your feedback personally. The goal of my channel is to help DIY people and those that are on a tight budget save some money by doing these things themselves. As I am not a professional, I sincerely appreciate people such as yourself, that add helpful tips that will help everyone in the long run. I welcome any helpful feedback so long as it's respectful. These comments help me make more informative videos in the future. Thank you for watching!

Adding to what an slayer said, what about the emergency brake adjustment with a rotor change? Or do you just pop the plug back in and it's good to go?

Thanks for offering your experience replacing pads etc. My experience is that Calipers that rusted can also have rust growing inside on piston and cylinder wall which causes sticking and uneven wear with eventually locking up with many symptoms bf that. Also hardware "Clips" are cheap enough to replace same time so they cause sticking and wear down new pads rotors. The work of pulling wheels and doing a brake job is enough to make it worth changing the hardware saving time and money in long run.

One thing I would suggest is to pull the upper and lower pins from the brake pad bracket to clean and lube them before reinstalling. This ensures the pads do not stick to the rotors.

Rather than seating the C-clamp inside the hollow of the caliper piston, you can use an old pad on top of the piston to squeeze it back flush.

Awesome video man. Only thing I would change or at least add which could help out in future is in the beginning of viideo, just lay out the materials that you need. The rotors, brake pads, rubbing alcohol, etc. I know it isn't much but it definitely helps. I have a 2011 RAV4 that I I will be changing brakes and rotors on this weekend. Thanks again, I gave a like and a subscribe for you!

You are supposed to retract the parking brake shoes before removing the rotor. If you don't you can damage the shoes and mounting hardware if they snag during rotor removal. That's what the rubber plug is for, so you can access the adjuster for retraction for rotor removal and then adjustment for installation. Also, for $10 you can buy rotor removal bolts that fit those threaded holes on the rotor that will pop the rotor right off using a wrench in seconds - no banging or lubricant required.

love it! generally they call the rust inhibitor, cosmoline. after replacing the rotors, how was the ebrake? have you adjusted them? they are saying 7-10 clicks is a good baseline.

A larger ratchet or a torque wrench makes getting the bolts off WAY easier. Also, you should ALWAYS use a torque wrench to tension the bolts to factory spec during reinstallation.

I need brakes on my RAV4 2006 replaced and possibly the rotors. You have proven to be a great mechanic with integrity. If I didn't think that there was any doubt , I would try these myself and follow your exact instructions. Excellent teacher! Do you live in the eastern Atlanta area, or can you recommend a brake mechanic to get the job done RIGHT? I pray that you get you 500 subscribers soon.

I was hoping to see a detailed guide for the emergency brake (or parking brake as we English call it) They do need to be backed off by positiong the inspection hole over the internal thumbwheels and using a flat screwdriver to adjust the shoes before removing the top hat drum/disc assembly and using two 8mm thread bolts or set screws will draw off the drum/disc assembly without beating ten shades out of the disc! It maybe serviceable but not after that abuse! Overall, decent video but a few lessons to learn. Cheers.

Hey there! Thank you for watching! :) GOOD QUESTION! I purchased mine through ebay from a company called Detroit Axl. Please understand, this video was created before the pandemic, the supplier shortages, and the outrageous inflation we are seeing in the market today. With that being said, prices have gone up. I took the liberty of searching for front pads and rotors (including new clips) and found them for sale in the link below for $82.78. Still a reasonable price given the times, I hope this helps you out! :) www.ebay.com/itm/163059717395?fits=Year%3A2010%7CModel%3ARAV4%7CMake%3AToyota&hash=item25f71dd513:g:xa8AAOSwmy9cM8pZ

A typical operation when loosening rusted parts from each other. The old rotors were discarded. No harm...no foul.

If your brakes are severely rusted, use some PB blaster on fasteners and other parts, let sit overnight. It helps with disassembly. You'll be replacing the friction surfaces so if the old parts get sprayed with lube, no issue.
