Fantastic vid, Erick. Thanks for taking the time to replace the rear wheel, step by step. The torque amounts would be an absolute bonus, as well. All in all, you inspired me to want to do the work myself. Thanks again. Jesse

Having trouble getting that axle out. Bike is 13 yrs old and I believe this is the 1st time. Nut is off, pinch is opened but when I impact it, it goes in instead of out. Drill is on reverse.

I find placing bike in gear stops the spline from moving. Hope that helps. Thank you for your video.

This video assumes that anyone watching it and about to take the rear wheel off has a lift like yours. I have a handy lift that does not have that hole in it to allow the rear wheel to drop. instead, it is actually much easier if you remove the four bolts holding the final drive unit on. That way, you can swing the tire out if you don’t have those rails around your saddlebags. While you have the final Drive unit off. That is the time to drain the oil from the final drive and change it, it is also the time to pull the driveshaft out and lube the splines. It is also the time to lube all of the linkage bearings and bushings for your rear shock….It may seem like a pain to do those chores, but if you don’t wanna do them yourself, you can always schedule an appointment at your local dealer. He’s only charging $125 an hour now

I won’t dispute your points. I’m not an expert in video making nor am I an expert in motorcycle repairs. My only point was to show that the tire can be removed fairly easily. I will consider making additional points that I think of in future videos.

The silver tribal art came on 2010 model only. The blue pin striping was hand painted on by an artist in Buffalo New York. I bought the bike with it on there.

Cant get anything to loosen. Side bag took way too long due to nuts too tight. Had to cut the rubber washer out with a utility knife and wrecked the large metal washer so i could get a grip on the nut. Finally got the side bag off then tried a 12v 3/8 impact wrench then a 20v 375 torque and it just stripped my socket caliper bolts wont budge stuck tight as hell. Any tips? John O

Diana O'Neill omg. You are having a hell of a day. I haven’t had any issues that you are having. But sounds like you need to buy sockets for stripped bolts. I have them. Never really use them. Where are you located? I’m Cleveland area.

@@ericdrake1444 problem may be its sitting on the driveway where the towtruck left it. Just on its stand. We have a low profile rear spool stand for johns ctx 700 but dont think we can use it to lift the back tire of the royalstar off the ground

Diana O'Neill without being there. I would recommend you get to Facebook. Yamaha Royal star group. A guy named Mike E. Is the guru of the bike. Also. Others from that group that near you. Might be helpful. I’m on that group.

Hi eric just got myself a 2006 royal star i change the engine oil the manual say 3.7 liter wit the filter only 2.7 liter come out there is a liter somewhere in engine that is not coming out do you no anything about that problem thank bro..
@ericdrake14443 жыл бұрын
If the bike is level. The lowest point is the drain bolt. I don’t measure oil. I just add till the sight glass is at half full. Because over fill cause blow by. And you end up with oil in your upper air box.
@joemartin70313 жыл бұрын
YA IDO ALL THAT BUT WHEN I REFILL ONLY 2.7 LITER GO BACK AND MY OIL IS DIRTY AGAIN DONTNO WHY THERE IS A LITER THAT DONT COME OUT STRANGE..

I got a bad sound this morning after my new used '99 venture turned over three times and then sounded like it siezed up. It was a sickening sound like something had already broke, sending the rod into something and stopping the turn. But why on startup, and no warning? I'm hoping someone recognizes this; I just got it without warranty and don't have the bux to fix major problems.
@ericdrake14443 жыл бұрын
So I would start with the oil. Smell it. See if there is fuel in the oil. If fuel is present in the oil. The engine has hydro locked. Common reasons are the fuel shutoff valve is leaking when turned off. Fuel shutoff valve is not shutoff. Carbs have sticking floats. Etc. Smell the oil. Start there.
@jeffreymills76273 жыл бұрын
@@ericdrake1444 thank you many times, I think you nailed it. It's a vaguely fuelly smell and I had just overfilled the oil res on the last ride!. And I never shut off my fuel. . . . Hydrolock. The other possible route is gas through the float needle seat o-rings. I think I'll start shutting off the fuel a quarter mile from home. . I should rebuild these carbs.
@ericdrake14443 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreymills7627 I wouldn’t attempt to rebuild these carbs unless you are familiar with four carbs and syncing them. There is a Facebook group. Mike Eyykamp sells a ready to install set. Contact him before going any further. He will help you diagnose this fuel problem. My opinion. Drain the oil now before attempting any further repairs.
@jeffreymills76273 жыл бұрын
@@ericdrake1444 Sounds like you're saying that merely accessing the needle valve seats harms the sync. . . I did drain it and got access to plugs. Pulling plugs as soon as I dig up an 18 mm thin wall socket. Since exchanging my carbs isn't an option for me, if I can't replace the seals without jacking up the sync, if I don't find a better option, I will probably just start shutting off the fuel a quarter mile before I get home.

Very incomplete and sloppy procedure - sorry but if you put something up on you tube make sure you have all the procedure worked out and the proper equipment. You need to have something under the tire when you return it to the hub, Not showing all the axel washers and parts leaves viewers scratching their heads. You need to fix this and then repost with proper updates.

Mike Alvey....totally disagree, just saved 150 on labor and a trip to the shop 30 days out,, shop told me to bring in rim and new tire and they could mount and bakence for 30, watched this video once and had my back tire off in 30 mins...no issues...I was careful to put bolts, washers, and any hardware together so they go back on same way....just will need to Google tourqe specs for reassembling........great video in my opinion!

Until you have attempted to remove a rear wheel from a royal star venture, your comment is invalid.

I think in the video he does mention showing you how to reinstall. The missing piece to the puzzle is the washed. Never showed us where if feel from or where if goes back in. Other than that I thought it was helpful, I don’t see a better one on KZbin. I still need to figure my washer. Thanks for making the video.
