Great video!! as a Gm ASEP student and a Dealership certified technician this video and the way you installed everything was very well done!!! I am very impressed!! The fuse block bolts do have a torque specification. (everything does on a GM car) The spec is 6nm or 53 in lb according to GM Service information. i am also a 2014 cruze owner!! very nice video! Suggestions to doing this install. I suggest taking out the inner wheel fender loose or out all the way typically they are t15 or t 20 or 7mm bolts. or push pins . easier to get to everything by far!! also i would have ran the harness and lights first before the fuse block stuff. makes it easier by far!!! in the end! this was a good do it your self video but like always nothing is better then the dealer doing it for you. The BCM or Body control module needs to be programmed so it knows how to turn the lights on and set codes. Which cost money so just get it all done in one go!! in the end great video!!! Very well done!!

I learned when I installed the kit on my 2014 Cruze LT that you only need to have the BCM programmed if your car was manufactured before the 2014 model year. Since my car was manufactured in March of 2014, all I needed to do was install the kit and it worked perfectly.

Note: This kit, GM part 95248415, has been discontinued and is no longer available from Chevrolet dealers. You may still find NOS (New Old Stock) on eBay from time to time though using the link in the description. You may have better luck ordering the individual parts from the numbers I show during the unboxing. The same eBay link in the description will search for those part numbers as well.

Do you know if there is a good aftermarket option since GM discontinued their kit? I have a 2011 Cruze eco and loved your video. I have wanted to update it for years, including the radio, but have been shy about trying it myself. After seeing your great video I feel much more confident about trying this. Thanks again for such a great video!
@DrShock2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I do not have experience with any aftermarket kits like this so couldn't suggest a particular one. Have you tried setting a saved search from the eBay link in the description? These kits do turn up from time to time. Another option is pulling these parts off of a salvage yard LT. If you do go aftermarket, you should rely on a hands-on review to be sure of the quality and fitment. Nearly all of the imported aftermarket parts are just plain scrap fitment and longevity wise so I do try and avoid them.

Can someone tell me what the wire is called for plugging it into the fuse box. I can't find one online
@ralphrussell2883 Жыл бұрын
This is a great video. Does anyone know what the connector is on the end of the violet wire, or can we get a better photo of the connector or how to get the connectors out of the fuse block? Sliding out the gray locking plates doesn't release the connectors. The connector is so small, I can see in there and trying with a really small screw driver doesn't release anything. GM doesn't make this kit anymore, so I purchased an aftermarket one along with a new factory light switch. The aftermarket comes with a switch of its own but I want to use all the factor wiring, switches, fuses, etc. except for from the fuse block to the lights. All I need to make this happen is to find the connector to put the wire into the fuse block.
@DrShock Жыл бұрын
I would suggest hitting a pull your own part salvage yard, like an LKQ. The Cruze LTZ trim level would have had factory fog lights standard, and you can pull the parts you need from that model.

Thank you so much for making this video. I have been thinking all summer about installing a fog light kit on my 2014 Cruze LT. I was a bit surprised on how easy it was to install and I know working in behind the front bumper can be a pain. The only thing I didn't know was how the electrical leads connected to the electrical system. I was happy to know that since my car was built in March of 2014, I won't need any help from the dealership to install the kit. I think I may be going for the bumper off option simply because I've been considering a pair of aftermarket headlights for my car. I only had one question. Do you need an additional fuse to connect the positive lead underneath the fuse box? Thanks again for the how to video. I'm looking forward to installing one of these kits on my car.
@DrShock6 жыл бұрын
Everything needed comes in the GM kit, there was no need for an additional fuse as Chevrolet built the car pre-wired for this option. You just have the one wire to connect properly to complete the circuit as I show in the vid.

The main problem is that the fuse is not hot and has to be reprogramed thru the ECM and you must have a number to provide the dealer tech for him to get a program from GM to update the ECM. This will allow the switch to energize the fuse wire and allow the icon on the cluster to operate. The Dealer will require a code from the box the lights came in and only a GM part. This applies to all years and models unless sometime the ECM was programed with fog lights before you got the vehicle.
@DrShock4 жыл бұрын
Larry, dealer Tech2 configuration is only required for certain earlier model years, the cutoff is in the description. I've done this mod on several vehicles now, no dealer involvement was required for any of the later model years which are all pre-configured from the factory for the option kit.
@larrypreston21394 жыл бұрын
I just completed my 2011 cruze on this past weekend. The circut for the front fog lites is inoperable so I talked with my dealer and they have to have the code from the package to send to GM for a reprogram of the ECM to activate the fog light circuit.
@DrShock4 жыл бұрын
Yep, your 2011 falls into the date range I outlined in the video description as needing the dealer level programming. However, you're getting some misinformation, about a code from the kit package. You don't _have_ to go to the dealer on these btw. The Body Control Module (BCM) can be updated by anyone using a GM MDI scan tool and a subscription to ACDelco TDS. It's just those are expensive tools (but I own them) so for most folks it works out cheaper to take it to the Chevy dealer. You need to know the authorization code for the fog lights (should have been on a sheet in the box) and just call ACDelco to have it added to your VIN. Possibly whoever you spoke with wasn't familiar with this procedure is all.

No, I did not have to do the BCM update with this year and model. If you end up with that problem, it's a simple enough procedure at the local Chevrolet dealer. Alternatively a local shop with a GM MDI scan tool and active ACDelco TDS subscription can also enable the BCM for the fog light option.

Do you know the name of the pin at the end of the purple wire?, and where to got one? Would prefer to use one and not a circuit bypass.
@DrShock6 жыл бұрын
That wire and pin is part of the factory kits wiring harness, there's no circuit bypass here this is genuine GM. The car is designed for this option to be added, just by the dealer rather than the assembly line. There is a part number just for the wiring harness that you can order from your Chevy dealer, I call that out in the video when unboxing the kit.

For connecting to the fog fuse can you not just have a fuse tap rather than going under the fuse box to connect
@DrShock2 жыл бұрын
So this vid is going over installation of the GM factory fog light option kit. The factory fog lights are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM), and utilize a unique dash switch and associated wiring harness. That included wiring harness has to be plugged into a specific cavity in the junction box (left vacated by the factory) which corresponds specifically to the fog light circuit, for it all to function properly. If you tried to skip that step, you would be tapping into a totally different circuit run, and very likely they wouldn't work at all. Now if you're using my vid just to guide along using an aftermarket set of lights, that wiring could be totally different idk.

Not sure I understand your question. I specifically showed how to disassemble the fuse box, locate and insert the connector pin from the kit. @DrShock3 жыл бұрын
The kit I go over in this video only shows applicable thru 2014. Starting in 2016 the front plastic fascia design changed in the Cruze, and the fog light kit design changed to fit it. The part number for the newer generation kit is 39126996, but the parts manual doesn't show it applicable to 2015 either. So yeah, interesting I see the problem. This is something where I think you have to swing by your local friendly neighborhood Chevrolet dealer and present the problem. Sometimes I have seen GM make mistakes in listing years covered by a part. And sometimes I have seen design changes that cause a particular model year to no longer be compatible with an accessory. If you didn't care about the full kit, you might try searching on a site like gmpartsgiant.com for 2015 against the harness part number I list from the full kit and see if that shows compatible, and if not what the alternate numbers the site gives.

How much does it cost to get the body control module reprogrammed? I have a 2012. And how much did you pay for this kit on ebay and from what seller? And I didn't see you add a fuse, so does this share off of the headlight fuse and do you have to switch to a higher amp fuse?
@DrShock5 жыл бұрын
This video concerns only the genuine GM part. You buy it from a local GM dealer direct, or a genuine GM parts seller on eBay - just search by the GM part number given in the vid for who is offering it on eBay. There's nothing more to add, everything you need is in the GM box as I show. Chevrolet engineers designed the Cruze to take this option package at the dealer so its fused off the existing wiring harness by design. The only extra step, as I mention in the video, is whether you need to rebuild the BCM options list to enable the fog lights, which depends on when your car was built. The Chevy dealer can do this if needed, or if you have access to a GM MDI scanner and TIS2Web subscription it can be done outside of the dealer.
@DrShock5 жыл бұрын
Oh an the cost if you have to have the dealer do the BCM? Well that varies greatly, I have my own MDI and subscription so I've never had to deal with that but I've heard anywhere from $50 to $250. Depends on your dealer, shop around and get multiple quotes would be my advice on that part.

Is there a way to wire aftermarket fog lights to the OEM light switch 13295227? I've seen other cars do this wondering if anyone figured out a way for the Cruze?
@johnd9541 Жыл бұрын
I think if you remove any included relay from the aftermarket fogs, and run the power feed cable to the number 48 fuse position (as shown in the video) and install the OEM light switch with the fog option, it's good to go.
@YouTuberMe68 Жыл бұрын
@@johnd9541 I was curious about this also, but what end goes on that wire so it clicks into place like in the video
@johnd9541 Жыл бұрын
@@KZbinrMe68 The wire running from the fogs just needs a 280 Series connector (#12034046 or #12129424 depending on your wire gauge) put on. You can also purchase short leads with the connector already crimped on (#13575773 ).

I cant find a genuine Fog Light kit for a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze lt

Did you try the link in the video description? Still see many listings on eBay. GM has discontinued this kit recently, so you can't get it from Chevrolet anymore. It's only going to be Old Stock like you would find on eBay now.

Would the switch work on a chevy sonic? Its the same shape
@DrShock4 жыл бұрын
The switch part number is shown at 1:50 but I don't know what else it might fit. The fog light kit it was included in here is only for the Cruze but that doesn't mean that the individual parts like this are not used on other models. You would have to check with your Chevy dealer parts department, or an online GM parts website to confirm.

Is there a way to make them stay on and not have to turn them on all the time?

Not with the factory wiring harness design, GM designed these as part of a new manually operated switch (which is included in their kit).

What is the name (or product #) of the piece that’s at the end of the purple wire?
@DrShock3 жыл бұрын
If you mean the metal piece crimped onto the end of the wire, that's called a terminal connector. The connector then in turn snaps into a plastic housing, which in GM vehicles is often referred to as a Metri-Pack series electrical connection. While they are sold separately by Aptiv (what Delphi got spun off into) I'm not aware of the particular part number used for this fog light harness type.
@Davsoto1203 жыл бұрын
@@DrShock I’ve been looking for that small piece online and in stores for hours now, I can’t find it. I knew it was a female terminal connector but I don’t know which one specifically, there are so many out there. I was hoping to get the dimensions of it so I can check Aptiv out for the product #, you wouldn’t happen to know what size or gauge, would you?
@DrShock3 жыл бұрын
You won't find a Metri-Pack terminal anywhere brick and mortar, not even at a GM dealer as they wouldn't service this. Instead they would just order a whole harness. It'll have to be a mouser.com or digikey.com type of sourcing, or once the Aptiv part number is known then possibly on eBay. This video was many years ago, and I don't recall the specifics there. Best bet would be to hit a local LKQ salvage yard, look for any Cruze in the model year range of this video with factory fog lights. You could then pull the wire and have an example of the correct size to compare with on the Aptiv catalog.
@Davsoto1203 жыл бұрын
@@DrShock seems to me that, that specific terminal is unavailable until late 2023… with that being said I think now, my best bet is to test different terminals to see if I can find an interchangeable one See, what I’m trying to do is get a fog light assembly with a separate switch (bc they’re cheaper) and cut that switch off, then just cramp the terminal onto the wire and connect it to the circuit.

Would this work on a 2013 malibu as well?
@DrShock4 жыл бұрын
This particular GM kit is only for the Cruze. I know they make one for the Sonic and Equinox as well. But I don't think they have one for the Malibu. What I've seen in forums is folks assemble the parts either ordering them individually from GM parts dealers or via salvage yard Malibu's and do it that way instead.
