Great video (as I'm sure you've heard)! Now, can you do a video on how to do the same thing with a 2013 Tahoe BCM (part number 22846365)? I have one and can't figure out how to take it apart to get to the EEPROM. There are no obvious points of entry - no tabs, at least none similar to the tabs on the BCM in this video. 22846365 is a fairly ubiquitous BCM found on 2012 to 2014 Tahoe, Silverado, Escalade, Sierra, Yukon, Avalanche and maybe a few others. If you don't have one / can't get one of these, let me know and I'll send you mine. Thanks!

I have a 2017 Trax that I want to add cruise control to. I replaced the steering wheel with one from a 2020 Trax and I also have the BCM from the 2020 Trax. What will i have to do to get the cruise to work?
@DrShock2 жыл бұрын
You cannot just swap used BCMs between newer GM vehicles like that unless the GM part numbers are identical. You'll have to reprogram your 2017 one to add Cruise, if that was an available option in that model year. For that you'll need an GM MDI scan tool, or similar J2534 compatible tool, and a subscription to SPS2 at www.acdelcotds.com. If you were trying to replace a 2017 BCM with another BCM of the exact same GM part number, then you could use the approach I've shown here and just swap the EEPROM chips between them to effect a repair. But when you mix model years, the BCMs can be internally different circuitry wise and thus incompatible at the board level. Even if they are the same part number, the model year programming differences would leave contents that would confuse the SPS2 system for reprogramming, if it even allowed it at all (GM tries to prevent the reprogramming of used modules). So the best path to success for such modifications from the as-built configuration is attempting to reprogram the original BCM.

Typically GM modules have different part numbers because there are hardware differences, so in general _no_ you cannot make conversions thru just programming. When there is only a software/firmware difference, GM will include a second number which they call a calibration number.

I have a Hummer H2,the BCM was water damaged so the point that the lights would stay on. Tried a BCM from slavage yard and the car ran but lost connection to the ABS and other things,it also wouldnt count the milles,so the odometer was frozen. Went and got another BCM from junk yard from same year and model Hummer,the car wouldn't start but it changed the mileage that time. Ordered a reman BCM,everything reprogrammed by the shop,they had the computor to do it. The odometer was frozen.it was stuck was stuck with the mileage from the 2nd salvage yard BCM. Still need the right BCM,couldnt order a new BCM,they are on back order. Do have the Orginal BCM to the Hummer. What's the best thing to do?? Do I use the very top number off the BCM to ensure that I get the right one so it can be reprogrammed? I've watched your videos from what I can tell,salvage yard BCM and reman BCM can't be reprogrammed.
@DrShock Жыл бұрын
An ACDelco remanufactured BCM that is perfectly capable of being reprogrammed using the SPS2 system from GM, this is done business as usual (outside of the UAW strike blocking parts access). It's possible your shop put in the wrong BCM for your year/model, but then you should be confronting them about this possibility. It's also possible, and perhaps more likely, that the water damage is more extensive and affecting other parts of the vehicle than just the BCM, presuming the correct BCM was installed and was programmed correctly using GMs SPS2 system. Some used BCMs cannot be reprogrammed by design at GM. Some you can. Most all you can hand edit the EEPROM contents if you know what you're doing, and have the correct software like Tachosoft to do it with. I'd recommend you call your local GM dealer parts department with your VIN and find out the correct part number for both a new (if not discontinued) and remanufactured BCM. Then take that information to the shop that installed yours.

@DrShock2 жыл бұрын
If you get a replacement BCM that has the _exact_ same GM/Delphi part numbers on it. Then yes, that's the goal of this video is to share that you need only copy the EEPROM contents (or just physically transfer the EEPROM chip if you prefer) to replace it with a salvage yard donor. This knowledge is useful because GM blocks MDI scan tool reprogramming used modules now. Don't forget to make a backup copy of your original EEPROM chips contents first though!

@@DrShock Is there a way to get back the previous mileage? I am about to clone the eeprom to the new bcm and would like to know that.
@DrShock2 жыл бұрын
@@la5limache If you purchase a new or replacement BCM, then you would set the mileage using the GM MDI scan tool during the new BCM setup process. If you go the copy the EEPROM chip from the original to a donor (either the contents or the actual chip is swapped) route, you retain everything you had. In the latter case, you just have to be sure the BCM part numbers match *exactly* for it to go smooth.
@nihilisticpunk2411 ай бұрын
Hello, I have a question. After viewing these videos are you saying that used modules such as a bcm, sdm, and so forth can be used on another car if the information is just transferred from the old module to the “new” used one? I have a used sdm from a Chevy Cruze I would like to replace one that was damaged. It shows b0101d.
@DrShock11 ай бұрын
In many cases you cannot repurpose an used GM module without going to the circuit board level and transferring the memory, or EEPROM, chip over. GM just does not allow it. Some module circuit boards, like the SDM will store permanent accident codes and require additional low level device editing to clear before they can be repurposed (i.e., you wouldn't progress your issue to just transfer the chip over from a module with stored accident codes). But if you don't have an accident, and just some other fault, then yeah you _might_ be able to apply this route to an SDM. Personally, I've only worked on BCMs so I can't say if that would pan out or not though.

@DrShock11 ай бұрын
tbh, the only way is trial and error. I believe that particular Delphi part number should map over to a 95040 type EEPROM. You'll have to desolder it from the circuit board though, that particular type is unlikely to write in circuit. Also the chip brand may matter, so note the logo on the chip to base your selection in the programming software.

I just need to find out if colour code is important when replacing BCM. For example mine is pink can I replace with green, blue, yellow etc will there be a compatibility issue?
@DrShock Жыл бұрын
I presume you're referring to the color coded wiring harness plugs, as all GM BCM case covers are black. These color coded plugs are important, but what you want to verify is that the BCM part numbers are exactly the same as GM BCMs are *not* interchangeable. There may be a compatible supersession if the part number was discontinued by GM due to being replaced. You would have to verify the superseded part number compatibility in that situation with your local GM dealer though.

If you do not own a capable scan tool to do it yourself, then yes. You would need a GM MDI clone tool, and then pay for a weekend subscription to SPS2 at www.acdelcotds.com. That would give you a very similar setup to that which GM dealership technician would be using. Or, if you have the experience and tools, you can do what I show in this video and relocate the EEPROM chip from the original to the replacement and skip all of that programming.

If the EEPROM itself isn't damaged, then just clone it. You would make a backup of the EEPROM image in the original, and then write the donor with that image. If the BCM part numbers match exactly, it'll be an exact clone. Alternatively, you can desolder the EEPROM from the original and install it onto the donor and also this results in an exact clone, given the same exact BCM part number.

Hello, I have an issue where i am starting up my 2015 chevy cruze and the wipers automatically start for 3-4 wipes and stop where they please. They work fine when i go up a lever(regular speed) and then at fastest setting they work fine too. When i push the lever down for the one wipe they immediately stop when i let go. I also notice there isnt an INT function available anymore. When i twist to go INT quicker or slower it doesnt register. I brought my car to a local mechanic and they thought it might be a bad switch and they replaced it with a new one but still have same issue. They then said it most likely has to do with the BCm module. It will cost me a lot of money to replace it so I can't do it now. Any ideas? Ty

It may have helped you more if the shop had performed an actual diagnosis rather than just firing a parts cannon and charging you for their guesswork. Unfortunately, further diagnosis will require more detailed testing that isn't something you can do over a comment forum. @DrShock Жыл бұрын
It would be extremely *unlikely* for a BCM to have anything to do with the air conditioning temperature on a Chevrolet Cruze. There could be a number of reasons for this, but the BCM isn't one of them. The trunk releasing is more likely a problem with the wiring harness and/or trunk release switch.

There are several different part numbers for the Gen 1 Cruze bcms Some specific tor certain years but any given year could have 2 or 3 different numbers. If the one from the salvage yard from same year has a different number but still uses the 24c16 chip would the copied program work?
@DrShock3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there was alot of _churn_ here in BCM parts for some reason. They all have the same basic board layout, so this video should cover them all layout and approach wise. But I was careful to point out the number I used in case there are exceptions out there. But you should not mix the part numbers. If your source is part number _AAA_ then your donor must also match exactly part number _AAA_ to avoid gremlins. The year matching is less important than the BCM part number imo.

Absolutely, I believe I mentioned that was one of the paths you can take in the video. Either fully clone the EEPROM contents into the replacement chip, _or_ physically relocate the original chip. You just have to insure the replacement BCM has the _exact_ same part number information on the label. While GM would specify several parts as _fitting_ that was only when they were reprogrammed new by a dealer grade scan tool.

If its a new or reman BCM, you use the GM MDI or MDI2 scan tool with a subscription to the GM Service Programming System (SPS) on www.acdelcotds.com. For an used BCM, you cannot reprogram them because GM doesn't allow used modules to be reused. Hence this circuit board level repair for that situation where you just edit the EEPROM chip itself.
