2011 - 2016 F250 F350 Retained Accessory Power Delayed Exit For Aftermarket Stereo

This is a quick video showing you how you can get a accessory power feed that has the RAP or "delayed exit" timer which allows you to keep the radio or another accessory going until you open the door. On newer Fords the radio is controlled via the CANBUS system and the wiring harness no longer contains an accessory wire. I show you where you can tap in to get that feed.

I use the old wiring harness that I took out of my 08 F150 and plugged it into the wiring harness on my 2015 F250. They use the exact same harness. The red wire gets the green and purple wire. The yellow wire gets a constant hot. I got my constant hot from the 12-volt Outlet by the driver. I use the gray and red or was gray with a black stripe for constant power. Installed my four-year-old Kenwood when I turn the truck on it turns on when I shut the truck off and open the door it turns off. It retains its memory. My truck is an XL with Factory CD player no synk system. Car toys also has a wiring harness that they told me would cost me a hundred and thirty bucks and then I wouldn't have to splice into anything.

What if I DON’T WANT the delayed accessory feature? I gutted my truck into a camper (no ignition, no engine, etc) and I plan to power my radio with a 12V power supply plugged into 120V. I need to trick my system to think I have an ignition key that is always on. If I replace my “delayed accessory relay” with a regular, normally closed relay, would it always send power to my radio (if it was powered)??

Hey man love the videos! I'm in the process of adding a navy unit to my f250. Where did you find the wiring harness for the unit? I cant find it any where. Also after splicing the real accessory wire what do you connect it to in the harness yellow or red? Thanks bud I'll be doing the steering wheel swap next!!

The wiring harness came with the stereo. If you are using a generic radio you will have to make your own harness out of the harness that came with the radio and a Ford adapter pigtail. You hook the real accessory wire up to the red wire. The yellow is constant battery voltage.

I'm curious How come you didn't tap into to wire behind the radio ? On my truck 2011 I found it easier to tap into factory radio wire so I have the power till I open the door vs how you did it. Still a great video and much help

There isnt a ignition powered wire in my harness, just like most late model Fords. The radios are controlled via the canbus network. The harness only has a constant hot wire

@@JackofAllMasterofNone your 100% right. I put factory radio in and tried to find it. Factory would work with keys out but never could find the wire lol.ended up doing it like yours . How did you find out the green/ purple was the acc wire ? Know Any other cool tricks for the wiring in the truck?

i have a base model 2014 f250 super duty and i bought the metra harness adpater to go from the factory ford radio plug to my custom radio harness but of course you have to splice the two together. do you have the ford color code so i know how to hook them together?

I am using an android aftermarket radio. The radio will not turn off when I turn the truck off will this wire tap make it turn off when I turn the truck off and stop draining my battery

Question on when green/purple wire has voltage? I "T" tapped into wire and ran a pigtail to a test light....I shut all doors and turned on key. I got no voltage.....I was planning on using this to wire the power head for key on power!? But I get no power from this wire?

Installed a Boss Audio head unit that has an "integration unit" that must be wired in. We wired the integration unit in as directed. Head unit will not shutnoff when ignition is turned off or door opened. Unit has constant power until you power off the head unit. Will this fix that?

Using this allow you to remove that little box in the wiring harness. And yes this shuts the radio off after you open the doors.

Not sure. That usually indicated a problem with the can box. If you are using an aftermarket android stereo with a can interface box you will.need to do what I did in this video. And cut the red wire coming from the stereo and hook it to this wire.

You could use it for that. It's just a 12 volt source that works with the delayed vehicle exit power off
