After watching this very informative information I decided to do this procedure since my 2015 Fiesta SE Sedan had 97,000 miles. As indicated many are told to believe that this fluid is a lifetime fill and is not to be done. What I discovered is when I called my Ford dealer to make sure they had the proper fluid it took the part guys a few minutes to look up and confirm the part number for this fluid as he has never sold it to anyone nor has it been done by anyone in their shop. I asked him to confirm his inventory and he came back to the phone and basically said holly cow he has a huge inventory of this on hand and was shocked to see that many bottles. He then told me the price and also seemed shocked himself at the price of $54 per quart. I said no wonder you have such a huge amount on hand nobody wants to spend that price to do the change. We negotiated down to $27 per quart and I bought 2 quarts. Upon removing the top plug even with the drivers' side raised a lot of fluid came out of the fill plug and then I lowered the vehicle down to normal ride height (holding it with the floor jack since the wheel is removed) and even more came out. I would say maybe a half quart in all. Then I drained the rest from the bottom plug. The oil did not smell bad but did have a darker look than the fresh oil. I filled the case with fresh oil and with the vehicle level as described above only got 1.6 quarts in. i stopped there, otherwise I would have had to raise the vehicle and over fill it to get 1.8 quarts in. Upon driving the vehicle after this change I noticed a significant improvement in the weird shifting noises that DSG transmission make. The noises never bothered me because I know what to expect and that they are normal. I have owned a VW Jetta with DSG so I am use to how they perform. Again less noises and better shifting is very noticeable.

I agree on the reduced noise and shift quality improvement. Since changing the fluid a month ago, the transmission has been very different than it was before. I wish I had known that before I got to 100k miles - I would have changed it sooner.

well I'm about 158k over when I should have started changing it. Just been driving it, didn't realize that was a thing to do. I think my clutches have started to wear out. I finally got a transmission issue warning the other day, when I accelerate too hard, it sounds like its slipping a little bit. And yes, this is the original powershift trans, somehow I've gotten it to 218k miles.

Buddy you are in for it. If I were you is take it back immediately. The DPS TCM powered transmission will never be fixed or need get redone enough to work. Worse yet ford mechanics and dealerships are aware of the problems and actively try and lie to you about how to even fix it. Some say they themselves dont know. Anyway please take it back. I'm watching this video to see if he does the reset procedure for the TCM. Because every single focus from 2012-16 needs a new one.

@@charwest5892 There is no way to take it back. It was bought "as is where is". This runs fine. I simply did an oil change to it. I do this regularly for all my vehicles. The cleaner the oil, the better cars run. This includes the transmission. I bought a 2007 Honda Odyssey, with a known transmission issue. I knew what the issue was immediately. I changed transmission fluid, and have put 40000 miles on it since with no issues.

I bought a 2014 w/140K miles on it. Needed a decent commuter for my son to get him another couple years, and decent affordable cars in this economy are very rare. Went into this car not knowing all the Focus issues. Couldn't imagine a Ford product could have so many KNOWN issues! I first fixed the KNOWN body ground issues which cleared up 3 engine/TCM codes. Now, I have to figure out what if anything can be done about the trans "shudder" that is intermittent. I used OP's suggested fix (5 full-on take-offs and acceleration cycles). This seemed to help for maybe a week? Shudder is back and now if I accelerate hard, there is a VERY hard "Thunk" when trans shifts from 1st to 2nd. Like hard enough you feel it through the car. So, for now I"m just taking it easy and is driving OK.

Thx for the video. I just attempted changing my transmission fluid for 2011 Ford Focus 2.0 duretec petrol at 70k. I jacked up my car and supported by jack stands. Using only a 8mm Hex Allen key and extension bar to loosen fill plug and drain plug from underneath the car. For filling, I found Nulon syntac 75w-85 transmission oil in innovative squeeze pouch with a hose attached. Very easy to use. Hope this helps to anyone attempting to change their own oil as Ford obviously doesn’t want ppl to do their own and charge you a premium.

Another great video that was spot on 👍 I just did this in my wife's 2011 Fiesta with 92K on the clock. I used clear tubing inserted into a funnel to get the new fluid in. I just popped the hood and placed the funnel securely between the coil and battery while the tubing went straight down into the Transmission fill hole. I clamped the tubing to the sway bar and added about 1.7qts before it ran out (with the car leveled).

If Im not mistaking, the fill port for the transmission fluid is actually on top of the transmission. the port that you are filling through is the inspection port. If you have this transmission, look on top of the transmission under the air box, there should be a small black cap inside of a small tube attached to the top of the transmission. you open the drain port to expel the fluid, then open the inspection port so you do not overfill the transmission. Whats great about these transmissions is the dry clutch, you don't have a torque converter that has to be drained and filled.
@FordTechMakuloco
@FordTechMakuloco Жыл бұрын
Any other questions? NOTE: Do not overfill the transaxle. This will cause transaxle fluid to be forced out of the case. 5. Using a suitable oil suction gun, fill the transaxle to the correct level with the specified fluid. Add transmission fluid until the oil runs out of the fill port in a continuous stream. The transaxle is full when the oil flow from the fill port has slowed to a broken stream or dripping.

A bit of advice. I use a re-purposed 1 gal capacity garden sprayer to fill all my transmissions. It's super easy to use and you can very accurately control the amount of fluid to any trans or diff. Get a good quality one from your local garden supplier and it should last a very long time. I have several of them for use with different fluids. Give it a try. Once you have used one to fill a diff or tansmission, you'll never use anything else! Have Fun!

A year ago I asked the dealer to change the transmission fluid and was told that my 2012 SE's powershift automatic transmission is a dry clutch unit, and it doesn't have any fluid to change. I've been under the car several times, and but I wasn't looking for that drain plug, so you can imagine my surprise when I came across this video. What I have done, though, is have the clutch pack replaced under warranty, twice...and three separate re-flashes. After seeing this video I went back to looked at my service records, and found some new XT-11-QDC Dual Clutch Fluid went into the car as part of the clutch replacement one time, but not the other. If I'm reading those records correctly does that mean that replacing transmission fluid in not required as part of the clutch pack change, but some people might have already had it done under warranty - so they should check their records - and others have not.

@pliedtka
@pliedtka 4 жыл бұрын
Changing from specific lubricant to whatever synthetic, especially in transmissions and gear boxes does usually more harm than good. Some trannies can only function properly on mineral base, or semisynthetic blend due to specific friction properties required for the synchros or wet clutches. Also viscosity and additive for newer manufacturers differs from one gear box to another.

I'm from Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico, and it is almost impossible to find someone who is good repairing Ford F150, and your videos have helped me repair my Ford each that requires it. But today I found in a maze, I have problems in accelerating my Ford and fuel consumption, said the P0120 and P2004 code, change the TPS, three times in the last two months, and works well for a few days and then returns the fault, but the correction fuel consumption has not improved in any of these occasions. Before the last change of TPS I threw a new code P0220 and P0421, after changing the TPS only P0120 and P2004 marks sometimes. It's a 2004 Ford FX4, 3V Triton 5.4. 146,000 Kilometers I imagine you're busy, and I hope that when you get a chance I can support with this detail, thank you very much..

If the "acting up" is chatter/shudder, changing the fluid will have NO effect. If there is a problem with the SHIFTING, then it's probably the TCM. Have the dealer "re-flash" the pcm and see if it helps. One other possibility is a bad "ground" connection to the transmission case. The servo motors draw a LOT of juice, if the ground connection is poor, excessive voltage drop will occur which those servos DON'T like!

@GrassFedMeats Bought a 2013 Focus SE with 56K miles (April '18). The clutch had some judder when starting from stand still. Had dealer replace clutch pak BEFORE I bought the car. I now have 68K miles with just the SLIGHTEST amount of judder at times, doesn't bother me because I have sticks most of my life. I LOVE the way the car accelerates under full throttle, lightning fast with a slight 'bump" during shifts. I still would rather have the "manual" version (the BOSS can't drive a stick)!

I'm a Focus 2012 owner, not a mechanic. The car is fun to drive and the gas mileage is great. I bought it used with 75k on it. The shifting from a standing start is a problem but not all the time. As someone here said, giving it more gas helps it shift smoother. I hesitate to bring it to the dealer because I don't know if they can actually improve it. The info from the comments here is confusing. Some say change the fluid, some say do not. Some said it helps the shifting some said it does not. What should a good shop charge for this service? What would Ford charge?

For anyone that comes across this, a fluid change will not help you. If this is happening to you, your clutch is poorly engaging and needs swapped. However, you can put up with the shuddering and just drive it harder to avoid it as bad. The shifting mechanism on this transmission is COMPLETELY DRY. NO FLUID IS INVOLVED.

I have a MTX-75 transmission in my 2014 focus. Through my research I have found that I am supposed to use Motorcraft Dual Clutch transmission oil as it uses the WSS-M2C200-D2 oil specification. There's also the Motorcraft Full synthetic manual transmission fluid. This has been confusing to me as both say they are for the MTX-75 transmission. Which one should I be using as I'm a bit confused by that? I am getting ready to change out my oil for the first time in less than 4k miles! Love your videos a lot :)
@TheOzthewiz

The DPS6 has to use fluid with spec WSS-M2C200-D2/XT-11-QDC, whereas the manual uses WSS-M2C200-D2. To me, this is splitting hairs, since BOTH transmissions are MANUAL gearboxes. Both fluids should work fine in either transmission. My belief is that Ford is just trying "enhance" their revenue stream by specifying this "magical fluid" for the DPS6 at astronomical prices! Shhh......Don't tell Ford!
