2011 Cadillac SRX alternator replacement

Replaced the alternator without taking the motor mount of the engine. Excuse some of the language and show love to Mom Dukes who makes a cameo around 3 minutes in. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

I just replaced the alternator on a 2010 SRX and I can confirm what others have said in the comments. You don't have to remove the air box, the throttle body or the motor mount. Just remove the front passenger side tire, remove the finder well, loosen the belt tension from there, remove the bolt that goes through the pulley attached to the alternator (I couldn't get the pulley and bolt out fully until I lifted the alternator out of the engine compartment). Then go up top and remove the connector, the power wire and the two bolts securing the alternator to the motor. You can then lift/maneuver the alternator from the top of the engine compartment. Slide the pulley and bolt onto the new alternator before lowering the alternator back down into the engine compartment and reverse the process. This was way easier than any of the videos I saw. Bro I did the EXACT same job on my SRX same model.. DID NOT have to remove the motor mount. DID NOT have to remove the air box NOR throttle body! The best and fastest way to do this job is to Jack up the front passenger side of the car, remove the finder well and work the job from the BOTTOM once you crack the bolts from the alternator on top. A strong suggestion would be to use a breaker bar on the pulley bolt that’s holding the alternator from the bottom as well. This job literally only took me about 30 mins from start to finish. You can reach the pulleys and tensioner much more easily from the bottom.

Your video was very helpful. I replaced the belt and alternator last night. Couldn't have done it without the video. I found taking the motor mount bracket off the engine made it a lot easier to get to the tensioner and the alternator bolt in the pulley. Thanks again!

Much appreciated. I'm self made mechanic and I own a mechanic business 18 years under my belt and this vid helped tremendously. First time working on this particular car for this job so I review videos at times to see if I'll be facing any unknown bs. I would have dropped the entire motor mount brackets off but thanks to the video I didn't have to. I did it just like you in 35 minutes time start to completion thanks. Man I'm grateful to provide any help, rather how to or not to do things. It means a lot to get a compliment from someone with your experience. People have no idea the talent and patience it takes to be a true mechanic and not just a parts changer. Granted alot of the guess work is removed these days but that damn code reader still needs to be deciphered a lot of the time. Good to know it helped and I'll be making more videos soon now that I've gotten moved and have my own shop now.

Run away if you can. I have had nothing but problems with ours. Rear wheel bearings, rear hatch controls, sun roof, radiator was last weekend and now the alternator, which is why I was glad to find this video... gm can't do electronics on a caddy right, and people expect them to be the electric car saviors...

If you have small enough hands you can do all this without doing any of this. I changed the alternator today on a 2011 Cadillac SRX 3.0 I watched your video beforehand and it literally gave me anxiety. Like I said small hands. Jack the car up take the passer side tire off take the Fender wheel liner out and you can get up underneath there and work the bolt on the alternator with the pully on it out towards the frame by hand and the alternator comes right out the front top with a little pivoting .

I just finish replacing this engine on my neighbors cadillac srx and i agree it is a pain in the behind to work on this.. the rear power steering pump has 1 bolt that sits behind the rear pulley and it is a super hard to take on and off..

I just replace the alternator and belt in 2012 SRX. Never again! I’ll pay the shop next time.

One more thing. The tip on covering the holes so you don't lose bolts was clutch. Can't tell you how many times I dropped a bolt or tool.

Yeah I fought for that bolt for a good half hour. Definitely not my brightest moment. Glad the video helped you out and my apologies for not responding sooner.
