The 49ers find themselves in the playoffs for the first time in 9 years, as they face Drew Brees and the unstoppable New Orleans offense in an absolute classic.

Refeal as a Saints fan this game hurt. Just as bad as losing to the Niners in the 80's classic games against Joe Montana. I got to travel to San Francisco in 2008 and a real treat for me was to pass by Candlestick. Just to see a stadium with so many classic games played their was so cool. Much respect to your Niners from a Saints fan. We should have won this game, 5 turn overs and still should have won. Stupid Greg Williams blitzing everyone with 45 seconds to go leaving Jenkins man to man against your te (can't remember his name but he kills us everywhere he goes)

2:13:57 One of the top 3 defensive plays I have ever seen in the history of football at any level. This should be in the film room of every defensive coordinator to demonstrate what maximum effort looks like in a football game. Yes, a whole lot of this was Justin Smith and his enormous strength, but a whole lot of this was a ,man more determined to get to the quarterback than any defensive lineman ever. An unbelievable individual play that has largely been ignored because it didn't lead to a touchdown or a game winning score. It's simply one of the greatest efforts I have ever seen by an athlete in the history of sports. Justin Smith's play goes beyond football. It's an inspiration and should be an inspiration to athletes everywhere.

That's like 1920s rules. That should have been penalty and then saints get a TD there 1st and goal at the one. Fking niners lost in next round anyway and the dum guy is crying. More like a tail of 2 halves. 9ers Dominated 1st half, then SAINTS came Marching STRONG in the second, & only ONE Play from advancing (Just like the "Minn Miracle" last yr) I'm a lifelong N.O. fan, but I can't hate this one cuz it was just an Amazing Football Game! WhoDat for LIFE!!!

Watching this on TV, you could tell the Fans brought the noise all game. Went to a DEVO concert that night in S.F. and ran into a friend who went to the game. First thing he tells me how loud it was for the game.

I remember a point where that crowd in Candlestick Park would boo Alex Smith like they hated him. So watching him turn it around and have those same fans cheering out of their minds at the end of this game is just so special.

Saints fan here. This was one of the all-time great NFL playoff games, but it will be largely forgotten because the 49ers couldn’t get it done against the Giants the following week. This was just an insane football game with two very, very good football teams that year. So entertaining. And what do you know, the Saints’ D couldn’t get it done at the end of the game despite the brilliance of Drew Brees. Some things never change, eh?

Jeez how many playoff heartbreakers have the Saints had? This game, the Minnesota miracle, the non call against the Rams that robbed them of going to the super bowl. I swear after winning SB 44 they're cursed lmao.

People just don’t understand how talented those 49ers teams were from 2011-2015. Determined as one of the best teams to have never won a championship in that time span. Im not a fan of San Fran but that doesn’t mean I don’t know they won 5 Super Bowls. 80s dynasty team was one of the best teams to have ever stepped on a football field. As for this year, I believe they have the talent to win a Super Bowl but I’m going to assume that when it gets to be late in the season and teams are playing extra gritty you’ll see this 9ers team have a stint of some sort due to their inexperience. They’re young and though they’re talented they don’t have that guy at WR that can “get open” at will. Emanuel Sanders is a good compliment to that style of offense but he ain’t their “guy”. Sanders and Goodwin are similar, having both will help spread the defense a little more and they can hopefully see some one on one coverage for George Kittle. I believe SF will win a SB within the next three years if they keep the group together. Honestly, if they could have traded for Sanu instead of Sanders I believe their chances of actually winning a super bowl increase dramatically with Sanu. Would have fit perfect with Kyles system.

The 2019 team is not inexperienced. Joe Staley is still there and he's been to a Super Bowl. Sherman has been to two Super Bowls. Tevin Coleman has been to a Super Bowl with the Falcons. Emmanuel Sanders has been to two Super Bowls. Jimmy G, although he didn't play obviously, went to a Super Bowl with the Patriots.
