2011 Dodge Grand Caravan battery light on

the only way o have to test alternator at this shop. This for a fleet company so I know they won't hesitate to put one in to prevent a break down

Wouldnt the voltage bounce around based on computer and rpm? Your voltage looks spot on. If it is bouncing around a lot, like mine was going from 14 volts running indicating charging, but then all of a sudden it dropped down to 12v then down to 11v, indicating no longer charging; turned out to be a loose bolt holding the lead to the alternator. Not an easy nut to tighten given the small space. Took me a long time to figure it out and after playing around with the cables, finally saw just enough wobble on cable and hoped that was the problem. After using my 1/4" long kneck ratcheting wrench comnected to swivel joint and deep 1/2" socket, I was able to tighten the nut another 2-3 rotations and that has completely fixed my problem! Man, this thing was throwing me for such a loop! Normally if your alternator is bad you wont see a change in voltage with car on vs. off (generally speaking). Check cables first! And recheck nuts and bolts to each wire!

Is there any way to bypass brain to charge battery direct from alternator! Dodge says brain is not receiving message to charge battery wanting $2000 for brain and installation! 2013 dodge grand caravan 220,000 miles..

Okay, I just wanted to see how to take the fucking alternator out. A PDF would have been better. Seeing the testing is great if I was just testing but removal and replacing it. As for watching you walk from one place to another made me nauseous. To think I subscribed to you just to let you know how frustrating this was.

The ecm, your vehicle's computer, regulates the voltage the alternator generates. It's quite possible with the functioning alternator and functioning battery, the regulation portion that isn't attached to the alternator or the battery could be faulty, perhaps a code reader would point that out.

Took rad out in stead instead of the ac unit that sounds expensive 😬 its actually not that bad taking all that out in a dodge just make sure you catch the coolant antifreeze and have an extra tarp underneath cuz that stuffs toxic to animals. Only need to remove a few sensors and move harness out of the way take pictures before you do that theres about 10 or less clips but yeah whole thing comes out as a unit I was amazed. The belt tensioner pulley is fun though

Fun?? Haha I just drove myself crazy buying the lowest profile 1/2 inch drive device I could find, which didn't fit. Then I used a crescent wrench to pry at a different part of the tensioner to loosen it, and it was much closer to the spring so leverage worked against me. But I FINALLY got a new tensioner and belt on after much struggle. My pulley had chipped and ended up slicing the old belt in half lengthwise. So I did not have "fun" lol Edit: I have an '05 so I hope they've increased the clearance for that tensioner for the 2011 and up

Ours did to due to oil leaking into the brushes of the alternator. Battery light Came on i tested the voltage was 11.89 and dropping .heard a winding noise and smoke from alternator the used brake cleaner to clean oil out of it and that saved it for a week 😀 then it came on recently and I'd say you got about 5 to 30 mins to get home depending on how good your battery is because oh boy weird shit starts to happen when you hit 8 volts
