Probably the rear end. Seems like every (US-model) Ranger had a rear end whine. I don't think it's bad or anything, Crown Vics do the same thing.

I would say yes, I have a 2011 the only difference is I have the 4.0L v6. It’s been a very reliable and good simple first car. Super tough and durable.
