Some dodge models like this, tend to crack or leak grease from the joints causing a clunk noise or vibration while driving.

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do this. Same issue on my 2012 Laredo X 4x4 w/ the Hemi, just a different part # for the rear driveshaft. Was super helpful seeing someone knock this out beforehand so I knew what to expect.

Best video ever! Many people show you what they did but you showed us how to do it. Question.. do you have to grease it?
@scromtinker7421 Жыл бұрын
I found out it can be this, and if the driveshaft is in good shape except that center support rubber, you can put some polyurethane in there and let it dry for a few days. The other thing it can be is the transfer case chain. It can get stretched out and and one of the signs is when accelerating under load it clunks a bit, but if you are really smooth with power it will be fine. Luckily that is also a somewhat easy fix. It's also the same for Durangos of the same years.

Great video man! How did you know which position to install the new one without weights? I know you have to put it in the same place for no vibrations, but the new and old driveshafts have different weights in different positions. Thanks for any info!

I have a 2012 grand cherokee limited with Quadra Trac 2 .. mine is stuck in Neutral tried the method were u put it in the on position(not engine on) press brake n Neutral buttom but all I hear is the transfer case clicking but won't turn it off or get it off Neutral. I can drive the truck but my front wheels don't engage and my knob selector does not work. I replaced the control module but still no luck. I don't t have any lights on the dashboard whatsoever. Could it be the transfer case motor ? Anyone ? Thanks

Nice job, i guess the rubber cushion was designed to keep vibration down compared to the old school driveshafts? How many miles did that have? I am looking at a 2015 with 73K Thank GOD for dry States when it comes to removing old nuts/studs. Yeah thats a LOT of $$$$$ and the price someone pays when a vehicle gets old and needs work for having some extra smoothness. I think they also have a transfer case mount that seems to wear/fail also that causes a clunk when you put it in gear

Man thank you so much for thoroughly explaining and showing that photo with the torn rubber housing. I've had this exact issue on a 2015 SRT and man is it expensive as ####. What do you think of a single-piece aluminium shaft (the driveshaft shop)? You think it would have clearance issues? maybe rub against the mid muffler or something... Great vid!
@dmgar37893 жыл бұрын
malamri424 Thanks man, I’m glad you liked the video. Yeah it’s pretty expensive, specially for a SRT. The main reason why the driveline is a two piece instead of a solid shaft it’s because your Jeep has a fully independent suspension. Also, the differential unit does not form part of the unsprung elements of the suspension system. The way your Jeep is designed it does need a two piece driveline. Also there’s very little clearance near the middle joint.
@boostedchalo60663 жыл бұрын
Hey man, what was your SRT doing? I've got a 2014 new transfer case, new front wheel hubs, new abs sensors, replaced the rear diff because it sounds like its binding on sharp turns but now its doing the same damn thing after the replacement was put on. Im running out of patient here. It is only on sharp turns though other then that on straight line it does no noises. Please help a brother out im fixing to just driving this thing straight to the dealer and get rid of it! my only guess its the driveshaft is bad but i really have no clue.

@@dmgar3789 Yea when i saw on your video that going in circles made that noise for you i thought the same thing on mine i just don't know to be honest because mine doesn't do it while driving on a straight line only turning extremely sharp turns or going in circles like you.
@dmgar37893 жыл бұрын
@@boostedchalo6066 the easiest way to duplicate the noise is by going in circles. Once the noise is really pronounced put the vehicle on jack stands. Have some one help you run the vehicle while you’re underneath the vehicle trying to pin point the exact location of the noise. By putting the vehicle on jacks stands will put the driveshaft at an angle, same thing while you’re driving in circles it’s slightly at an angle.

I've got to replace the rear driveshaft in my 2011 grand, and the design is so stupid for not using u joints you can replace without buying a whole driveshaft!!! I can get one with a lifetime warranty from the parts store for $700 compared to $2700 from a jeep dealership. It's ridiculous how much parts cost for a jeep, especially since mine is constantly breaking down!! I just got through spending $500 for an alternator and about a month later, now I'm going to have to replace the driveshaft!! I love my jeep, but I'm starting to realize that JEEP stands for Junk Every Entire Part
