2011 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Start Up, Engine, and In Depth Tour

Yes, I do have an old video on one of these, decided to remake it in my new style and actually give a good informative overview of it this go around. In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

I had my 2011 for two years. Backing onto a street a challenge due to the blind spots. Great gas mileage. I averaged 41 mpg.

If anybody's curious, for 2014 the Hybrid CRZ should get an "Earth Dreams" engine, which part-time acts as an Atkinson cycle engine like the Prius + Direct Injection, and traditional OTTO cycle when you want power. So a good boost in MPG. The 2013+ CRZ models will get a "Sport+" mode, where the electric motor can be overdriven for a brief period of time.

It won't be too long before all cars are electric assisted (except maybe a few specialty cars I guess). It just plain makes sense. Especially when the batteries are more mass-produced and become cheaper to replace every 100k miles or so. That actually sounds really nice for only being a 1.5 liter. I would've thought it was an S2000 or maybe an RSX or something like that if I didn't know better.

I've had this exact car in Base trim with the CVT for two years now. It's never given me an ounce of trouble mechanically, but everything else is awful. It's very slow unless you keep it in Sport, it's the most basic standard equipment ever (no sub, no Bluetooth, no leather steering wheel, etc), and the car itself is overpriced. $21k for a base model, plus the fit and finish outside (the seams, mainly) are very wide. My last car was a 08 Fit Sport; I should've kept it. Food for thought.

This is a very nice vehicle. The only problem with these newer vehicles is that, the electronic gauges and trip sensors seem to not function properly after about 6 years of use of a car. Other than that, these new vehicles have greatly improved, mostly for the better!

It's an interesting design, the interior can even be called innovative and agreeable. The exterior ain't pretty though, due to its grossly disproportionate, ungainly appearance. It looks like the designers started with a regular car, which they punched it in the nose, and then proceeded to cut the rear with a battleaxe or a samurai sword. (Banzai!) Quite a cruel treatment, if you ask me. ☺

zipp930 OK. I don't like stick shifts either. I like automatics with over drive and just plain old automatics, that's what I'd get. A car with an automatic transmission with and/or without over drive

@raptor750r Thanks. I was pretty much referring to larger SUVs that have the same towing potential as a light duty pickup. Unfortunately I think we are going to see alot more CVTs in the future and alot less normal automatics. Soon, if you want to feel shifting you'll need to drive a manual.

Honda wants to make them more motorway friendly the amount of wind and road noice is annoying for the misses who sits in the passenger side I think people who buy them end up with a sport looking fun little toy and overlook the downfalls which is understandable and adds to its charm

If Honda wanted to create a car that offered buyers a break from the usual Hybrid style car, why did they choose to go with the ugly fish-shaped design seen on the Prius and countless other Hybrids? I think it's just another ugly hybrid car that's just as pretentious as the rest, maybe more so.

@ruigoncalves2 I just a little cross that we don't get the speced up cars like the Golf R. Which here in America will have 20 hp less (why?) and no Paddle shifters. We also don't get the BMW X1, and we don't get Audi RS models. I would like a Ford mondeo, and I would really appreciate the Ford focus RS not this luxury less sporty focus here in America.

@desertfox2020 They're good if all you care about is gas mileage. They do just slightly better than a normal auto transmission. But for people who want to have even a little fun when they drive should never buy a CVT. It makes the car feel so automated and without personality. Yes, CVTs usually come with a "manual mode" where it simulates a manual transmission. But if you listen "and feel" how it shifts, its just not the same as a true geared transmission. The shifts are slow and dull.

@desertfox2020 CVTs slipping is actually something i was wondering. I'm not sure if car CVTs are the same as those you see in a snomobile which uses a belt. I think they use the same concept though so i guess as time goes on these transmissions could slip. I really don't see this design having heavy duty potential so as you said thats probably why we don't see them in trucks. The Nissan Murano does use a CVT and i guess you could consider that an "SUV" even though you dont see them towing stuff

It may not be fast. 0-100kph in the sub-9 second area is just as fast as normal cars, but it is poised in the bends. What makes it cool is that, its an entirely new concept. The first affordable hybrid sportscar in the market, and it even has a stick! No other hybrid in the market has a stick, which stays true to its sporty nature!

I love this car and want one! The CVT crz actually gets slightly better gas mileage than the manual, 35 city 39 highway i believe. Plus this is a hybrid, meaning it can easily beat those numbers even in regular driving conditions. Finally a good looking fun hybrid that is in the range of the everyday driver. Good job Honda!!
