Saw a comparison test on edmunds where the guy give the slight edge to the 550i than the M56, even though he the acknowledged the infiniti beat the 550i in the same categories this guy mentioned. His reason, for picking the 550i over M56, infiiniti always reminds you its a sports car and for daily driving he prefers 550i. How so lame. Glad to see an unbiased result on this video!

Not much of a review but the M is cheaper than the competitors and has more features like active noise canceling, a system to keep you from changing lanes when you have someone you could hit, it accelerates and slows down by itself, etc. Looks good and performs well too!

The two cars are amongst my favorite sedans. Cozy and plush, yet still offer some hardcore performance. R/T data panel had both of these cars going from 0-60 in 4.6sec, 1/4mile in 13.1 sec. That's on par with Dodge Charger SRT8, Pontiac G8 GXP, and Cadillac STS-V.

I had the M56 got tired of the returns to the dealer for its secutrity sensor and modules always somehow locking up to where the car wouldn't start and having to stay stranded waiting for a tow truck and its consoles always breaking. better bang for your buck is staying with the companies that carry their rep for making the best luxury cars, they may cost slightly more but at least it's money well spent not wasted.

The Mercedes definitely has a much more comfortable ride cuz it's designed and built for comfort & luxury; while the Infiniti is designed and built for performance, personality and reliability. And most people buy Mercedes for the image of the brand + bragging rights, they can't really tell the difference and they don't care.

@brjha What are you talking about the E550 is the top of the line sedan for the E-class segment, it only makes sense that the E550 rival the Infiniti M56. The E63 AMG is under a performance division for Mercedes, thats an entirely different segment buddy. When Infiniti comes out with their IPL-M sedan then you can compare the E63 AMG to the IPL-M56. The Luxury High Performance division includes Mercedes AMG, BMW M-series, Infiniti IPL, Lexus F the Audi S-line.

Agreed! I own both German & Japanese and the costs are polar opposite. Nevertheless I cant say maintenance is cheap on both sides of the spectrum because at the end of the day both Luxury cars from the Japanese and the Germans do require costly parts compared to conventional vehicles but when comparing the two, their is no denying that the Japanese are more affordable to maintain opposed to the more demanding German competitors.

I heard that too. Infiniti as a brand is growing fairly quickly, they went international in 2009 and have already been dubbed the fastest growing luxury manufacturer in the world open to more then 50 countries world wide and still expanding. And now with the collaboration & partnership between Infiniti & Mercedes Benz, this will allow for an array of future products from both sides of the spectrum. The 2014 IPL G37 coupe will ride on the C-class platform with a twin turbo 530 HP engine!

Anthony I know is being a year since you post your comment, and yes you right Mercedes benz in my opinion is better than infinity, I currently own a E 350 2011, I bought this car used and do far no issues, I will never go back to Honda, Toyota, Lexus or even infinity.

Anthony That may be true, but even as a huge Italian/German car fan, more often than not, Infinity, starting with their barnstormimg G37, have produced Sports Sedans that are livlier to drive, with MUCH lower repair costs in many cases. Having said that, I'm very happy the Alfa Romeo Giulia won Motor Trend Car of the Year !! 🇮🇹

What the Merc needs is a sport oriented package for the E550 much like the M-Sport package that the 5-series offers, stiffer handling on demand, better steering, stickier tires, a lower ride, and maybe that new 4.6TT V8 the rest of the MB line is getting soon.

Your kiding right? The Mercedes C-class alone depreciates very quickly, more so then its competitors. The G37 ratains its resale value quite well over time along with the BMW 3 series and Lexus IS. Both Audi & Mercedes Benz have poor residual value. You can get a 2010 Mercedes C300 for $20K, same goes for the A4.

@DavidJBMW The Infiniti M37 looks nothing like a Nissan Maxima, however had you said the Interior of a Maxima is similar to that of a G37 then thats understandable. The interior of a G37 filtered a few of its design Q's into the Nissan Maxima but thats as far as they go in terms of appearance. The only similarities the M shares with the Maxima is its size to that of the M37 since they are both mid sized sedans, but the Maxima has not a single trait from the M whatsoever.

I completely agree with this review. For the long journeys on the highway, I'd take the E-Class. However, for more of that fun factor (and I'm not saying the E-Class isn't fun to drive), I'd take the M.

@iSOBigD The E550 and M56 both cost the same even when fully equipped, give or take with all the bells and whistles both the Infiniti M and Mercedes E-class price out to a little over $75,000. Its not so much the MSRP tag, its maintenance that primarily becomes more affordable on both Infiniti & Lexus compared to their German rivals like BMW, Audi & Mercedes Benz.

Tough choice. I like the M56's curves and transmission with two manual mechanisms (lever and paddles), but the Benz looks a lil more solid overall. If Benz puts the new 429 hp v8 from the 2011 cl550 into the E550, it'll leave the infiniti gasping for air.

I think the Mercedes has a more executive exterior to it while the Interior of the Infiniti felt richer and a lot more luxurious then the traditional layout of the Mercedes Benz. I think the Infiniti M was actually voted best interior in its class according to JD reviews. Both cars look great but for the money, I would take the M56 for sure.

I'm impressed with the Infiniti, however based on appearance, I'd have to go E-class. Merc's new line of cars is very, very sexy. Based on driving? No idea - I haven't been behind the wheel of either, yet. I'll reserve judgment!

@jo23bulls Infiniti will be filtering their IPL engines throughout most of their vehicles by 2014. Infiniti and Mercedes Benz are now partners. Mercedes will be sharing technology with Infiniti and vise versa. IPL is expected to receive AMG based engines from Mercedes while Infiniti will be swapping hybrids/electric powered tech with Mercedes. This will essentially allow Infiniti to create pedigree for the brand and also expand their IPL division to a greater potential.

@DavidJBMW Actually Japan was suppose to open Infiniti in there but they decided not to because they had already established brand loyalty from their costumers in Nissan so it made no sense to introduce what essentially where a few of the same Nissan vehicles as an infiniti. The only 3 Infiniti's rebadged a Nissan in Japan are the M37 AKA Fuga, G37 AKA Skyline and the EX35 AKA Skyline Crossover. (continued..)

@DavidJBMW Instead of establishing Infiniti in Japan they decided to open a new segment called "Nissan Premium Factory" which only includes the M37 (Fuga) G37 sedan & coupe (Skyline) EX35 Skyline Crossover) and the Nissan GTR. "Nissan Premium Factory" is like the luxury branch of Nissan without having to rebadge them Infiniti's which in consequence makes the following vehicles twice as expensive in Japan compared to the price of an M37 here in the states. Its not cheap just cause its a Nissan.

i would disagree here cause i owned the e class and the m56 both good but in a benz u feel more special simply cause it has hand made steering wheel, real leather and wood, perfect engine acceleration and noise, perfect luxury and spacing, better audio quality (infiniti has bose) and mercedes has JBL which is the best company for audio, M56 has fake wood and leather and doesnt please the money i had to pay...

@TheCls63 Comparing a Nissan GTR to a Rolls is kinda like comparing apples to a suede jacket isn't it? But I don't rag on the GTR, that V6 Mizuno designed is a freak of engineering. I still like the car it was aimed at the (911 turboS) way more but I would never disrespect the GTR, too much mechanical perfection in that thing. And yeah Nissan is known for pedestrian cars but the McLaren MP4-12C has Nissan underpinnings in the engine department a la VRH35. That engine was a god.

bang for buck?? its interior is fashioned with cheap plastics covered in what appears to the customer as brushed steel the small consoles brake with ease and work shitty like those of the nissan altimas %67k for that isnt your bang for buck. the mercedes is only $3k more expensive that including the famous 4matic drivetrain package, it's built better and its compartments all work smooth and with ease personally the M56 is ugly rear end got an ugly slant and the front fenders are massive.

yup and 2000s mercedes especial the c class is propotionaly more reliable and more sustainable than 2006 or 2010 mercedes. the worst was the S class 2002-2006 these were one of the worst class in those years but still very relible comparing to some other car. Anyway im a fan of mercedes, my father had mercedes since im 5 or 4 now i have one. its the best car in the world, thats just my opinion, might be right might be wrong. Mercedes has 5 star body reliability for example, only other companies like lexus and porsche matched that...... This Mercedes is practically a base model in comparison.....to Infinity's best saloon they make.

also, did u ever saw all the option for entertainement and security you can put in a mercedes? its endless there is so many option that the car drive almost by itself, this is also why i prefere the mercedes over the infinity, it has way more technology. Even if infiniti had that much technology, i dont think it would be more reliable than mercedes, especially the park assist system...
