I just bought a 2011 MKZ hybrid. Thank you so much for putting this video out. This helped me make the decision! Really appreciate it.

@flatblackstrat It's tough to tell. Can't put a percentage on it overall. Need the resources to develop the data. Hybrid systems need to be warmed up to operate efficiently ... they don't want to kick into electric mode until the engine temperature has risen ... so you might not see the benefits for the first few miles. The use of accessories can effect MPGs as well: HVAC, seat heaters, etc. Winter gasoline blends can be an issue. The Cruze Eco is capable of 50 MPG under optimum conditions.

@hondaftw1234 Standard practice is to fill them twice, from the same pump.

@Dereks06 True but a colder charge is also a more efficient charge in an ICE. I can understand how air density would effect drag co efficiency by making the car have to cut through more tightly compacted matter. I know the Hybrids don't like the cold, but I am wondering more about regular gas burners. I'm looking at trading in my C200 and possibly getting a Vertrek when it comes out, or I guess what would be the Kuga equivalent here in Japan. Gas and taxes are outrageous here.

@Dereks06 That is true only until the engine warms up, warm up time is the least efficient time. Also what do you mean by it running in a closed loop? Do you mean no fuel return system?
@flatblackstrat14 жыл бұрын
@Dereks06 Yeah I got it. It's pretty simple I guess. It's just the engine running off pre-determined air fuel ratio with no input from the MAP or MAF sensor. I guess that would give you pretty bad fuel economy since the mixture would be running very rich, but that's the only way you can get the block heated without stalling the car. I wonder if diesels have the same system, or if it's different because they have glow plugs. You learn something new every day.

Great review, it is too bad how winter affects fuel economy that bad though. I feel like I'm spending for premium when in fact I'm only running regular unleaded gas... Damn economy eh!

I totally forget Lincoln was offering this at the same price as the regular ICE model. That's actually pretty good deal. What kind of hit on mileage are the cars taking from the winter weather Dan? Personally I thought you would get better MPG in the winter from the colder air being denser much like Nitrous. Also what kind of summer mileage would you expect from cars like the Cruze Eco?

How many times did you fill up the fuel tank?

Dan,I like the 0-60 Nice! it's a new car! warmer weather = Better mileage! I am a Prius owner, Its big enough for me!

@flatblackstrat Blame it on physics (or chemistry), not the government. ;) Not sure of the exact cause, might be due to the higher amounts of butane in winter gas?

We almost got one of these but instead got the Genesis, because Ford isn't willing or able to stock the dealers with an adequate selection of these.

@flatblackstrat E85 is very cool. E15 is not. The more FlexFuel engines, the better. America can homebrew all the fuel we need. Imagine having a still in your shed and filling up on moonshine ... that's crazy talk, ain't it? ;) I have an Elantra scheduled for late spring ... need to slate a Focus. It might be cool if I had both at the same time.

@xoquixxoqafxo Mullally's got it in the works I think. The guy knows the market and hopefully he will do something better with Lincoln because it can't just be a Buick and or Cadillac competitor (which it basically is with Mercury gone) if it's Ford's only luxury name, plus it's got a hell of a marque behind it that shouldn't go to waste. The M line of cars are better than what has come out in the previous 10 years before them, but they need to take a more global approach.

@mpgomatic Is the government spiking our koolaide again? What's up with winter blends? More ethanol?

Lincoln & hybrid.. kinda sounds like combining Craig Morgan with 50 cent /:

This is a nice car but its not differentiated enough from a Fusion, Ford needs to do something drastic and make Lincolns truly different from Fords.

@mpgomatic Sorry I tend to blame our once great government for a lot of short comings, especially since they have their hand in the cookie jar with all this E85 regulation instead of letting the market decide what they want to put in their tank. Rant complete.... Anyway it's starting to heat up and I think we should be seeing you in a 2011 Elantra and 2012 Focus real soon. You should do a 3 car showdown between the 3 and give your opinion about which comes out on top. GMI would have a field day
