I'm happy knowing I'm not the only one who still really likes this era of the macbook pro laptops. I still have my late 2011 15" from high school still. Just replaced the thermal paste on it and watched you awesome video. I never had any issues with the gpu in my use case, I even played a shit ton of games on it including WOW for years.I love my old Macbook Pro, It still has a disk drive, and the apple logo lights up. Its a neato burrito little portable, and I'm fortunate to have it working still. After a new battery install and swapping to a SSD, this is still a very capable laptop for sure. Thanks for making this video man.

I have an i7 13" 2011 models and it runs warm, but a fan/heatsink clean and thermal paste refresh got it running back to normal. Also, before the GPU issue in the first gen MBPs, you also had failing GPUs in the nigher end iBook G3s. I had an amazing 900MHz iBook G3 snow model but the GPU bit the dust and a reflow only fixed it for a very short time. I miss that machine. What a great G3 laptop. Nearly 1GHz, on G3!!

The 13" 2011 unibodies were great machines, still are in my opinion. In terms of the 15", you're better off just getting the 2012 unibody. But not the retina model from the same year, because funny enough, it had a problem basically the same as this one.

I have a 2011 iMac running Big Sur. Thankfully it has the 6750m so it’s not as susceptible to failing(at least in the iMac anyway) it’s pretty usable still and pretty capable.

I've got a late-2011 MBP logic board I pulled that sucker out as fast as I could and put in the Mid-2012 board problem solved after a little bit of work as the display cable needs ever so slightly some mods unless you're willing to also switch out the display, but as I use this in a dock it isn't really much of an issue.

I used this laptop as a daily driver before I got M1 Air. That thing throttles like crazy when the power usage is more than 28 watts. The CPU's TDP is 35W and I use Core i7.

Nice video. Got the same one recently, for 160 euros, ram upgraded and ssd. Apart from dogshit gpu that keeps me from patching the os to Catalina and that I can't even install Flutter for developing, so far so good.
