It really sucks that the All Star race has become nothing more than a test session for the 600 and a race to experiment new aero packages. Anyways, holy damn that intro always gives me goosebumps. I wish SPEED never died.

Ross Chastainfan10 the entire sport has become a test session for stuff that could save its existence. NASCAR was dying in 2011 but in 2010 it’s been dead for 2 or 3 years. Dale Jr’s retirement was the official death

TheLocalLt Actually the sport is far from dead, sure it is not like 2005 where we have sell out tracks every week and tv ratings in the 10 million range. The sport is actually in the position it was in the 90’s and from what we have seen through the first 4 races of this year, NASCAR has seen an uptick in viewership. Dale Jr.’s retirement was actually a good thing for the sport. It was a passing of the torch to the new most popular driver in Chase Elliot. He has also not gone anywhere. Jr still shows up to the race track and is arguably one of the most energetic personalities out of all the NASCAR commentary people. Even having the best podcasts right now.

Ross Chastainfan10 the sport is not in the position it was in the 90s, in the 90s it was a sport based in southeast American car culture with yearly expansion to new markets and fan bases, each of which grew NASCAR’s overall fan base. Motorsports overall has lost its underlying base of American car culture, which died in the recession of 2008 along with the start of NASCAR’s (and all motorsports’) slow death. People just don’t care anymore, the sport didn’t help by trying desperately to capture audiences beyond the 10million which ended up costing them millions of fans even prior to the recession. Baseball is dead, nascar is dead, boxing has been dead for 25 years, the nba is kind of back (not near 90s level popularity but better than the malice at the palace days) the last decade but declined again recently, golf had a similar thing to nascar except it has a set of resuscitative paddles named tiger woods, really the NFL is the only sport that still brings in as many viewers as it did 15 years ago, it actually brings in way way way more than it did in the early 2000s (many of the new viewers being women), while every other sport does worse than they did back then (in relative terms of course) for a variety of different reasons among each sport

Kinda funny how they would play the intro to Fuel by Metalica just before introducing the driver who would run into a jet dryer 9 months later.

Just so everyone knows our racing watching ended with the death of Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was our man and our hearts was not into watching after Dale passed to race in Heaven. Thank you from the Oppermans from Texas
