This is the first "Altima Repair" channel to which I have subscribed. Not only is your understanding of bleeding-edge automotive electronics very thorough, but you also understand the value of "old school" hacks, like using that neon continuity tester just to check for leaks on the boot! Well done. Thank you.

That was an awesome and informative video. I have the same exact year, engine and problem. No one - including the dealer has been able to figure it since no engine light comes on. The car runs like crap! and has gotten worse the more the dealership messed with it. after watching this, I am going to get the test light and check out the coils myself. Thank you. I hope this solves my issue as well.

You are very knowledgeable. My 2012 Altima is misfiring. I just wish I had a technician like you around to check it out. I am in the electrical field myself and follow very well your explanation but doing the repair requires equipment and experience that I don´t have. Thanks for the lesson, at least I can have a technical conversation with whoever is going to do the job. 10/30/2021

My 2012 Altima has 241,000 miles on it. It's been an amazing car! I have never replaced the plugs, but may as well since I know the issue right is a coil (or 2?). It's weird that it happened after I hit a pothole, so maybe a coil just came loose (I have not looked yet).

Great diagnostic,I would like to buy those tools, would you mind sharing the link
@michaelbarrett8803 Жыл бұрын
If you remove the bolts from the coils you can start the engine then lift each coil to see if the engine speed changes. You can also watch the coil pack spark from the end to the side of the spark plug tool. That is fast and easy. You can swap the coils to see if it's the coil or the signal going to it. There are three wires. One is 12v, one is ground and one is the signal from the computer that powers the power transistor to fire the coil. I think the center wire is the signal from the computer.
@tonyl22253 жыл бұрын
What did you do about the fraid wires at the connectors

Yeah that hei impulse would hurt a little. I deliberately taken a little off a points ignition but, avoided the high energy. You can see it clearly on older distributor ignition coming from the spark plug wire to what ever it's arching to.
@TheGrover19684 жыл бұрын
Years ago I would deliberately load a points condenser and leave it on the radiator cover for someone to pick it up and discharge it.
@trainer20187 жыл бұрын
Nice job. Next time you do ignition secondary with the extension lead try the clamp on style ignition adapter, might give you a better picture of the secondary and you won't have to fight with the position of the pickup. Just be aware though that due to the extension lead it will make the level of the spark kv increase. How are you liking the Vantage Ultra? Worth the dough or not?
@pinpointautomotiverepair15927 жыл бұрын
busjockey1 nice tip! I hate the ultra, tons of problems and functionality issues, not to mention poor battery life. It freezes randomly and is all around frustrating. Id trade it for a pro in a heartbeat.

Can you pull the grey plug off the coil instead of pulling coil to see if there is an engine change or do you have to pull entire coil and boot out while it still being hooked to grey connector to check it?

How would you do this diagnostic for a car (ex. NIssan Versa/Sentra) that has the air intake above the coils? My Cube/Versa recently had a misfire after I have replaced the plugs with some ebay NGK. Believe they were fakes so replaced them with some expensive NGK ($16/pop) from Amazon (seller were NGK), hopefully real this time. Ran well for a week, then misfire came back on the same cyl(#1). Don't think it was a coil issue as it was swapped with another location. I took out the plugs and inspected them. The cyl 1 well has no oil, but the #1 plug tip was full of oil. Because all the cyl well didn't have oil, I don't think it is the valve cover gasket. My car has been down for several weeks, please advise.
