2011 Sienna Blows ECU IG No. 1 Fuse

We look at a 2011 Toyota Sienna that blows the ECU IG NO. 1 fuse when you turn the ignition on. You can't shut the windows and it's raining!

It would seem the fuse blew fast enough to limit current to the mirror but not open a PCB fuse trace (or PCB SMT fuse) on the mirror circuit board. When the test light was used instead of the fuse this constant load blew a PCB fuse trace on the mirror PCB, although it did take some for the PCB fuse trace to heat up and open, as you can see in the video. This would indicate there is (was) a power short on the mirror circuitry which overloaded the fuse. So the question is, what component failed on the mirror that would short power and what event caused this component to fail? In the winter time the driver can generate large amounts of static charge by just moving around in the seat because the car interior is so dry. A static discharge of sufficient energy to a electrical input on the mirror could cause a component failure. Although the mirror inputs should be protected against ESD, but the protection TVSs can take only so much energy before they fail. If there was a ESD event large enough to damage an ESD protection TVS, the TVS would most likely short, which could produce a power short opening the fuse. If a PCB trace opened, you could readily identify the shorted TVS (just follow the trace), replace it (choose one that can handle more energy), repair the PCB fuse trace (it may actually have a dedicated PCB SMT fuse, but I doubt it), and the mirror should work again. I would not recommending reconnecting a module connector with the vehicle running or ignition on. Turn the vehicle off, go key off, and then reconnect the module. Go key on engine off and rescan the network to see if the ABS module is talking. Clear codes, test drive the vehicle and see if any DTCs occur.
